One of my favorite lip glosses has always been Revlon’s Super Lustrous Lipgloss. It’s an almost-perfect, creamy nude lip color that is highly glossy with a slight, barely warm, gold sheen. It has a nice texture – slick without being too thick, greasy or sticky. Since it’s regularly only $6.99 and tends to become the object of “buy one, get one free” deals, it’s an easy-to-find, guilt-free buy when you forget your lipstick or lipgloss at home (pet peeve) or lose it while on vacation (super pet peeve).
Lately, however, I’ve found myself longing for the gloss to look a little richer and last a little longer. Sounded like a good challenge. So I set out to find that perfect lip product that matched the shade of my old gloss, but surpassed it in quality.
About 3 brands and 9 glosses later I came up with an apparent winner: Stila Lip Glazein Vanilla. When compared side-by-side on the back of my hand, the two glosses were virtually indistinguishable. This match was incredibly promising when added to the fact that the Stila Lip Glaze formula is an excellent, tried-and-tested lip gloss — though there are some issues with its container design.
While the gloss is dispensed through a very nice attached lip brush, the gloss comes out incredibly slowly and tends to ooze out excessively if you turn the dial on the bottom too many times. This (and $20), however, was a price I was willing to pay for the perfect marriage between shade and quality.
After wearing the Stila gloss regularly and now going back and forth between the Stila and Revlon glosses, I can say that the Stila lip glaze is a hands-down winner when it comes to durability. This stuff lasts much longer and holds up better between sips from a plastic Starbucks lid. I have to admit, though, that the color of the Revlon gloss is still actually a little creamier, which I really do love. So, alas, I still haven’t found the perfect lip gloss.
While a reasonable person knows that if something ain’t broke, she shouldn’t try to fix it. I, on the other hand, just can’t help smearing that next potential holy grail of glosses on the back of my hand : )

My favorite Stila Lip Glaze is in the shade Guava. It smells so yummy, and it’s the perfect shade. I do have a few complaints. For the amount of gloss you actually get, it is pretty expensive. It seems like you have to turn that dial a million times for any gloss to come out. The formula give a good shine, however after a while it starts to get a little sticky.

Hiya Jules! Thanks for the comment.
My biggest complaint with this lipgloss is the lack of control you have over dispensing it.
And I do agree that it can get a little sticky. Nevertheless, still good stuff ; )
I noticed you left a couple comments on other posts and it sounds like you really know your Stila. Is it one of your fave brands?
Thanks for the comments and for reading Makeup Moxie, it’s great to have you here!

Hi Jazmin,
This is a great site. Stila is definitely one of my favorite brands. Their colors are so pretty and compliment a variety of complexions. My favorite makeup lines are of course Stila, MAC, Benefit, Smashbox, and Laura Mercier. By the way, Ulta has started carrying Stila (at least at the one in my area).

Hi! I can’t argue with your taste in makeup brands — your choices are all great ; )
And, yes, I noticed that Ulta is now carrying Stila (which is awesome).
Do you have a Cosmetic Company store near where you live? The one by me is filled with great bargains on Stila ; )
