Super Luxurious (and Warm!) Skin Care Treats
My recent trip to Wisconsin really reminded me of how rough winter can be on your skin — especially in very cold climates. As if the blustery, sub-zero weather outside isn’t enough to stress out your skin, the seeming relief of the hot, dry air from indoor heaters actually wreaks further havoc, leaving skin uncomfortably tight and even chapped.
In search of relief, I had a great idea. I realized that there is probably no better way to soothe dry skin while easing away the winter chills than with some warm lotion. After a little experimentation, I figured out a quick, convenient, and safe way to make my own heated body cream. You can get the detailed directions on how to prepare your own batch of heated lotion at Makeup Moxie.com.
I also rooted around online and found the Conair Heated Lotion Dispenser (currently on sale for $9.95 from Amazon.com). This nifty device has variable heat settings for warming up your favorite lotion, an indicator light that tells you when your lotion is ready, and the tank that holds the lotion is removable and dishwasher safe for easy cleanup.
I haven’t tried this puppy out yet, so if anyone owns one of these lotion dispensers (or a similar product) I’d love to hear about it. Please don’t hesitate to post your comments here!
Here’s another body-warming way to banish dry winter skin: before hopping into the shower or a bath, toss your terrycloth bathrobe in the dryer. While skin is still damp, generously apply a moisturizing body oil and then slip into your warmed robe. The body oil and warmth of the robe will really help seal in moisture — and make you feel cozy no matter what the temperature is outside!
