Proactiv’s My Sword and Now Skin MD Natural is My Shield

Skin MD Natural Shielding Lotion

My dry winter skin has really been driving me crazy, so for the last week I’ve been test driving Skin MD Natural, which, according to its manufacturer 21st Century Formulations, is a “shielding” lotion that promises to “exceptionally enhance your skin’s hydrating and protective abilities” by “transforming the outer layer of skin into a hydrating invisible shield.”

I have to admit that I’m impressed and that this product delivers as promised. It’s light, non-greasy, and scentless — all things that are incredibly important for those times when you want a good moisturizer, but don’t want its fragrance or oils interfering with your perfume. Most importantly, it does leave skin incredibly smooth and well-hydrated.

This lotion claims that it can be used not only on your hands and body, but also on your face. I’m always sort of wary of claims like this because it seems counterintuitive that a product that is effective enough to banish rough skin on your elbows and knees can also be gentle enough to actually use on your face. But, for the sake of beauty experimentation, I decided to go through with an interesting idea that I had for testing the shielding ability of this lotion.

As many of you know, I’m a huge fan of Proactiv. I’ve been using it for years and it has dramatically — pretty much flawlessly — controlled all breakouts. Unfortunately, I’ve recently decreased my use of the product because I’ve started to develop some irritation around my eyes when I use it. And before you ask — yes, I’m extremely careful to keep it away from my eyes, but even the small amount that makes contact with my eyes while simply rinsing the cleanser off the rest of my face has caused excessive dryness and sensitivity of the delicate skin both above my eyelids and in the inner corners of my eyes.

I figured I’d dab a little of the Skin MD lotion around my eyes, allow it to sink it, load on the Proactiv facial cleanser, rinse as normal, and then see what happens. Lo and behold, this stuff really worked — no dry itchy skin, no redness, no kidding.

This is a very nice, highly effective, multi-purpose lotion to always have in the bathroom cabinet. It’s available for $25 for a 4 oz. bottle of lotion (don’t worry, a little bit really does go a long way and this should last about 1-2 months). You can learn more about the lotion and where to buy it at http://www.skinmdnatural.com/.

This sounds like a really nice product. I visited their website and I like the way they explain how their product works. Is it worth the $25, plus 8.25% tax, plus $4.95 shipping?

BTW, ProActiv has started drying out my eye area too–exactly the way you described it! It sucks because now I have this weird wrinkly skin in the inside of my eyelid and these itchy little rough red patches in the corners of my eyes. DUDE…it sucks because now my skin is finally clearing up but now I have this weird corner-of-the-eye itching thing going on.

    MAKEUP MOXIE ROCKS!!!! :)

Hi mouse, thanks for reading! It’s really up to you to decide whether the final price tag is worth it to you to buy this product. Though I can only speak from personal experience, I think this lotion could, depending on your reaction to it, very effectively be used to replace your body lotion, facial moisturizer, and even eye cream — add up how much you would spend on those per month and compare it to the potential $16-$32 you would be spending on this lotion per month (which depends on how much you use because a bottle is supposed to last up to two months with daily use).

Also, the makers of Skin MD offer what looks like a money-back guarantee on the product. The company states on its website:

“We are so certain that you will absolutely love the way Skin MD Natural™ feels, goes on, and how it protects and hydrates your skin that we unconditionally guarantee it.

If for any reason you are not completely satisfied simply return the bottle to 21st Century Formulations, 9663 Santa Monica Blvd., Suite 860, Beverly Hills, CA 90210 and we will promptly refund your entire purchase price, including shipping. If you do tell us why you are returning it, we will be very interested. Our goal is that you receive more than what you expected. This is not just a sales statement - it is our ‘Policy One’”

Mouse, please know that Makeup Moxie can’t diagnose or treat any medical conditions. If your skin sensitivity worsens or continues, you should really consult a dermatologist.

    Good luck!

Oh, and I thought of one other thing. Have you tried using the store locator function on http://www.skinmdnatural.com/? You might be able to get ahold of the product wihout having to pay the S&H ;)
