Tressemme Curl Activator

I recently wrote about Marc Anthony Strictly Curls Defining Lotion. You can read the post here: Limp Locks and Weak Curls? Marc Anthony Strictly Curls Gets Great Reviews. In that post, I promised that I would continue to spill the beauty beans and tell you about one of my other favorite hair products.

Tresemme Thermal Creations Curl Activator Spray is an excellent product for any of you straight-haired makeup moxies who are looking to add some curl to your coif. Liberally spritz the Curl Activator Spray all over damp hair, blast hair for a few minutes with your hairdryer and then commence with the curling. While Tresemme’s website has some helpful tips on how to use this product, it doesn’t mention one particular use for this product that I find truly effective and useful.

This Curl Activator Spray, more than any other hair product that I have thus far come upon, has the ability to add excellent volume and texture to hair — even without blowdrying. Just work this product through your hair while it’s damp and remember to keep scrunching and tousling your hair as it dries. The product tends to get a little crunchy, but just keep scrunching, twisting, and tousling and your hair will soften up. Fellow Makeup Moxies, this is wash-and-go done right!

This is such a perfect, low-fuss look for summer and while it’s super simple, there are a couple of little secrets to maximizing this easy hairstyle. To get the beauty lowdown, check out our beauty secret, How to Get Sexy Summer Hair.

wow, wow, WWWWWOW!!! This stuff really works!! I was pretty skeptical at first because I have pin-straight “perfect” Asian hair and I’ve never been able to get that sexy, touseled, just-woke-up-and-rolled-around-on-the-beach-all-day look without my hair falling flat after a couple hours. But I followed your tips and I seriously could not believe my eyes!! My hair couldn’t have looked better had I spent hours in front of the mirror and tons of expensive hairspray. I just spritzed it on my wet hair in the morning, did that scrunching thing while as I did some stuff around the house, and when it was dry, took a look in the mirror, and said DAMN, that Makeup Moxie knows her stuff! My hair was full and WAVY (wha-wha-whaaa???) yet it was soft and touchable. I LOVE this stuff. i want to do this to my hair every day…..which makes me want to say…”TRESemme….TRESemme mucho!” hahahaha! Corny, I know–I couldn’t resist!

Thanks, Makeup Moxie!!! What an awesome tip! You’ve made a believer out of me!

LOL, awesome! You’re so very welcome! “Tresemme Mucho”…that’s hilarious! Now when I’m doing my hair I’ll have something to sing to myself besides, “Tresemme….Ohhh La La!”

Hey, I was wondering where you can get this lovely stuff. I’m dying to try because I also have asian hair, and I’ve wished for everrrrrr to have that beach blonde surfer girl hair.

lol, I just commented on another post about how we always wish we had the opposite of what we’re born with ; )

But I have impossibly straight Asian hair too, so I totally understand where you’re coming from!

I recently spotted this spray at Target and Wal-Mart. If you can’t find it anywhere near you, you can also snag it online from Walgreens.

    Hope that helps. Good luck!

does this work at all on our asian hair withOut the curling iron? just spray, scrunch, and let dry?

  • 6 Jazmin // Sep 25, 2008 at 5:41 pm

Hi ar! Yep, believe it or not, it works on Asian hair…even without a curling iron.

I’m Asian too as is mouse who commented above . We both have super straight hair and this spray worked for us.

While it won’t actually make your hair curly, it will give it a wavy, tousled, “beach hair” texture. The trick is that you have to keep scrunching it as it dries. You can view more detailed instructions here.

I hope it works for you too! If you try it, please be sure to stop back and let us know how it goes ;)

I have African-American hair, and I get it both chemically straightened and heat straightened. the result is nice, straight hair, but there are mornings when I wish I could curl my hair and give it that touseled look. I just recently bought this product, but I’m wondering if it’ll work on my hair? I’ve been trying it, but I’m obviously not trying enough of it..I’m scared it’ll make my hair look more fluffy than curly, haha. Will this work on my hair, do you know? Thank you for all the advice! :)

You’re so welcome, Alex! Though I don’t know of anyone who’s tried this look with your type of hair, I think it should work.

How much have you been applying and what has the effect been so far? You don’t want to use too much of this spray, otherwise it tends to make hair get too crunchy. On the other hand, you want to apply enough so that your hair feels a little sticky and takes on some shape when you scrunch it.

I say (and only if you’re up for it : ), try applying more of the spray and use this technique to style your hair. If you’re worried about damage to your hair, substitute a richer conditioner for the light one that I recommended in that article.

If you start getting too “fluffy”, try working a little shine serum into your hair to tame it down. I really hope that works for you!

If you try it, be sure to let me know how it goes! Good luck! : )

Well, thats the problem with my hair…its really frizzy when its washed. Its because of the chemical straightening. My natural hair is ringlets, and when i wanted it straight I need to get it both chemically and heat straightened by an iron. So I tried washing my hair and stuff….but it really only turned out frizzy for me, haha. I’ve delicatly tried it with my straight hair (which is what I want to use it for more) but it doesn’t seem to make the curls stay any longer than usual. Do you have any more advice for me?
