When I caught up with Andee Bartunek, the National Trade Show & Sales Rep Manager and Resident Make Up Artist for blinc, I had just come indoors after being outside in the 103 degree Las Vegas heat.

Since summer heat is always a cause for concern about melting mascara, I took the opportunity to ask her about something that’s been on my mind. What type of mascara is best for wearing in this insanely hot weather?

There’s basically two schools of thought when it comes to wearing mascara that won’t smudge or run in hot weather: (1) Waterproof mascara is best for hot and muggy conditions because it has been designed to stay in place and (2) Smear-proof or “smudge-resistant” mascara is better for beating the heat because waterproof mascara is often wax-based and tends to melt into a smeary mess in hot conditions.

Bartunek said that she definitely falls into camp #2…at least when it comes to blinc’s Kiss Me Mascara. Blinc Kiss Me Mascara’s unique formula doesn’t just “paint” lashes like conventional mascaras, but instead forms tiny, “tubes” that surround and protect each lash.

According to Bartunek, these little tubes are water-resistant and effectively resist smudging, running, and flaking. Bartunek further explained that while waterproof mascaras are often formulated with harsh chemicals that can damage eyelashes, Kiss Me’s formula is gentle and actually protects lashes.

Bartunek’s explanation — and her enviously long and smudge-free lashes — were convincing. She also hooked me up a sample of blinc Kiss Me Mascara, so that I can try it out for myself. Look out for a review of it soon.
