L’Oreal Bare Naturale Review
Walgreens.com
This review of L’Oreal Bare Natural mineral makeup is the first in a series of reviews where I’ll compare the different drugstore-brand mineral foundations — mostly to each other, but also to higher-end mineral foundations (namely the highly popular Bare Minerals by Bare Escentuals).
For more info, please check out my explanation in: Beauty Throwdown: What’s the Best Drugstore Mineral Makeup? [Update: The complete drugstore mineral makeup rankings are now available here: What's the Best Drugstore Mineral Foundation?]
Now on to L’Oreal Bare Naturale…
What’s good about L’Oreal Bare Naturale?
- Value. At about $15 for 0.35 oz., L’Oreal Bare Naturale is about half the price of the popular bareMinerals brand mineral makeup. Per application, you also end up using about the same amount of Bare Naturale as you would bareMinerals, so you don’t end up paying the hidden cost of having to apply more makeup.
- Coverage. This foundation definitely evened out skin tone and covered up skin imperfections.
What’s bad about L’Oreal Bare Naturale?
- Heavy Finish. While Bare Naturale provides good coverage, it also has an opaque finish and can appear a bit chalky. It’s not so bad that it creates a mask-like effect, but it sort of defeats one of the main selling points of mineral makeup: the ability to achieve really natural-looking skin with a minimal amount of makeup
- Bare Naturale gets a little cakey under hot conditions. After scurrying across a parking lot in 104 degree Las Vegas weather, I was annoyed to discover that the foundation was starting to look a little cakey and muddy in the places where my face was starting to sweat. A blotting paper helped stop the meltdown, but Bare Naturale’s slip-up was enough to count as a vote against recommending this product.
- Shade Range is limited. With only 8 available colors that don’t match a wide range of skin tones, the Bare Naturale line sorely lacks shades for darker skin.
The Bottomline on L’Oreal Bare Naturale: If you have light to very tan skin and you’re looking for a less expensive mineral makeup that offers matte coverage, you may want to give Bare Naturale a try. While I’d rather wear Bare Naturale than wear nothing at all, I’d prefer to cough up the extra cash and buy something better.
Has anyone tried L’Oreal Bare Naturale? What do you think of it?

I tried it. I am super pale and found it also lacked shades for very light skin! I bought the lightest shade, and still looked “muddy”.
I also agree it is a bit too cakey for a mineral make-up.

Hi Mommanista (love that name!),
Wow, that’s really good to know.
Thanks so much for sharing your experience with this makeup!

I always said that I could use cement on my face and it would look good. I am a big time L’Oreal girl, however I bought the L’Oreal Bare Naturale and was soooooooooo disappointed in it. It felt very heavy and cakey on me, and I looked as if I had make up on. Sorry to say I will not buy any more of this.

Hi Chrissie and Gardenia! Thanks so much for your comments. This one wasn’t a favorite with me, either ;)

This stuff is afwul.
Wish I would have thought to look on-line before
trying it out.
I hope I can return it for a refund.

Hi Elizabeth,
Thanks for commenting! If you’re looking for a good drugstore mineral makeup, be sure to check out this post. You may want to try IsaDora Mineral Makeup (though it’s been discontinued and is getting hard to get ahold of at Walgreens), Milani Mineral Makeup, or Almay (not the best value, but still good stuff).
If you got your makeup from a place like CVS, Walgreens, or Sav-On, you should be okay.
If you got it somewhere else, just be sure to politely explain the situation and hopefully they’ll be accommodating.
Good luck!

Has anyone tried Sheer Cover? How do these other mineral makeups work on aging skin?
9 Jazmin // Jan 7, 2008 at 1:46 pm
Hi Barbie!
I haven’t tried Sheer Cover yet, but I’ve been getting a lot of requests for a review of it lately, so I’m going to be sure to get ahold of some and test it out for all of you.
While I can’t personally account for which mineral makeup brands work best for aging skin, one of our fellow Makeup Moxies left a comment (you can view it here) saying that every mineral makeup she had tried was very aging (she’s 53) except for Almay Pure Blends, which she really liked.
Personally, I found Philosophy’s “The Supernatural” mineral makeup to be similar to Almay Pure Blends, so you may want to give that one a try as well.
I hope that helps! Please be sure to let us know what you decide on and whether it works for you.
And if any of you Makeup Moxies have tried Sheer Cover or if you have some advice for helping Barbie choose a mineral makeup that will work well on aging skin, please speak up!
:)

yeah, i was disappointed alittle too.
but i think it best wroks if you use a lighter brush.
then it wont seem so cakey.
but, i kinda liked it. (:
11 Jazmin // Jan 18, 2008 at 6:34 pm
Hi Lee!
Thanks so much for sharing your opinion of this makeup!
And you know what? I kinda liked this makeup, too : ) I didn’t love it, but it’s really not that bad.
And you’re definitely right about using a lighter brush! The brush that’s included with the product tends to produce fuller coverage.
Thanks again for the comment!

13 Sherri // Jan 22, 2008 at 9:20 pm
Hi,
I just bought this makeup today, and have it on right now. I agree that it definitely feels cakey. I thought mineral makeup was supposed to be very light, like not even wearing makeup. Right now, I’d rather have my liquid make up on. It feels much lighter than this stuff. I want to run into the bathroom at work here and wash it off. It feels heavy. Pretty dissapointed, but the coverage is good, and I have noticed that my extremely oily skin is not showing signs of excess oil after having this on for about 5 hours now. Usually, after about 2 hours of my old makeup, the T zone on my face is shining like a beacon.
14 Gilda Wynne // Jan 23, 2008 at 5:06 pm
I was very disapointed in the Loreal Natural Mineral Make up. I purchased the lightest shade, and it was very unflattering, thick, muddy and totally AWFUl.
15 Jazmin // Jan 23, 2008 at 11:14 pm
Fernanda: If you bought the mineral foundation, you need to blend it onto your face in a circular motion. The technique is pretty much the same as the one used in this Bareminerals video.
If you bought the blush, pick up a little of the powder on a blush/powder brush. Tap off any excess and blend it onto the apples of your cheeks. I hope that helps. Please let me know if you have any other questions!
Sherri and Gilda, you poor things! Sorry you had to have icky experiences with this makeup.
Sherri: lol, I totally understand how it feels for your T-zone to be “shining like a beacon” :)
Have you tried using an oil-absorbing face primer? I like BECCA Mattifying Primer and Sue Devitt also makes a good one.
Also, did you use the brush that came with the L’Oreal mineral makeup? Because of it’s size and the density of it’s bristles, the brush makes it easy to apply too much of this foundation (which may be what’s making it feel heavy). If you haven’t already, you might want to try using a lighter brush (one that’s similar to this one) before you ditch this makeup completely.
And Gilda: It sounds like your experience was very similar to The Mommanista’s above! If you’re looking for a drugstore mineral makeup that works better for lighter skin shades you might want to consider Almay or the new Maybelline Mineral Makeup. Hope that helps!
16 Alycia // Jan 24, 2008 at 8:02 am
I have been using this foundation for about 2 months now, an I have to say that on most days I love it. I can wear the lightest shade an the second lightest shade on my skin depening on how tan I would like to look. I also have the concealer, the blush, an the finishing veil powder. If you use the whole line of products it works much better. I find that sometimes it can get a little cakey but all you have to do is really use less of it. I have recieved many compliments on my skin since I have used it. A few of my friends have even started using this mineral makeup an they love it too. I must say though that my friends an I have oily/combo skin, when you first put it on it might look a little dry, so you will want to use a moisturizer before you apply it.
17 Jazmin // Jan 24, 2008 at 9:54 am
Hi Alycia! I’m so glad that you found a mineral makeup that you love…and thanks for all the great tips!
18 Kris // Jan 24, 2008 at 4:29 pm
I actually never wore powder or any face make up until I found this product. I chose it over bare minerals because of the price and I love it. I don’t break out and a blotting sheet works great when i get a little shiny with this powder on. The shades are limited so I mixed a dark and a light together to get my shade. I guess I got pretty lucky.
19 Jazmin // Jan 25, 2008 at 1:42 pm
Hi Kris! I’m so glad you found a good foundation that you love and that works for you!
And that’s a great tip about mixing shades to get the perfect one for you! That tip, combined with the single shades that are actually available, helps L’Oreal Bare Naturale match an even wider range of skin tones!
20 Cathy // Jan 27, 2008 at 11:31 am
I’ve been using the l’oreal mineral makeup for 2 months now and love it. It looks very natural on me, much better than liquid foundation. It does take a little practice to learn to put it on good though.
21 Paige // Jan 27, 2008 at 4:57 pm
I tried this and I really love it… I have the foundation, concealer, blush, finishing powder, and glow. I use all but the glow every day… it’s marketed as a bronzer but is really just shimmer. I can’t imagine why it’s getting all of these bad reviews, but I suppose if you had dry skin it might look chalky. I apply sunscreen, let that dry, and then apply this foundation over it and I really like the finish and coverage. I’ve never repurchased any other makeup before (I usually like to look for something better or different), but I”m on my third jar (?) of this.
22 Jazmin // Jan 28, 2008 at 8:01 am
Hi Cathy! Thanks for sharing your opinion on this makeup…and you raise an important point. I think that if you’re not used to mineral makeup application, it’s easy to apply it incorrectly (it’s especially easy to use too much)!
And, Paige, thanks so much for sharing your experience, too…and third jar? That’s love ; )
23 Meibaby888 // Jan 30, 2008 at 8:07 am
I love this !!!! I used to use B.E. but its too expensive… so I started to use Loreal since I went to Walgreens and the new Maybelline mineral shades are too dark for me… The second lightest shade of Loreal really worked great but I don’t use the brush that it comes with instead I use a regular powder brush, and since when I went they had there sell of buy one get one free. I got the finishing powder that sets it in just like the finishing powder from Bare Escentuals… For now I going to stick to it…
24 Jazmin // Jan 31, 2008 at 3:16 pm
Hi Meibaby! I’m so glad that you found a mineral foundation that you love! Thanks so much for sharing your opinion on it ; )

About this cakeness of Loreal Bare Naturale…
When I first tried it, I felt the same as most ppl, that it was cakey especially on the cheeks. I tried Bare Minerals and found that their colours didn’t match me that well soo went back to Loreal… I now use Loreal but use my own Quo powder brush to apply it.. I find that the brush that Loreal comes with picks up the clumps of powder and thats why you end up putting all the makeup in one place on your face and even after you blend it its still cakey.. When I use my Quo brush it picks up the clumps but breaks then down into powder and its spreads more evenly on your face and more importantly doesn’t give you the cakey look.. ANYWAYS my point is for anyone thats tried Loreal to try using it with a powder brush and you’ll definitely see the difference..
27 Jazmin // Feb 12, 2008 at 1:12 pm
Hi Bridget, thanks for the comment! Check out this link to Walgreens.com. It shows all the available shades of this makeup ; )
Hi Yvette! Thanks so much for bringing up the tip on the brush. I absolutely agree with you that the built-in brush is ineffective and is largely responsible for the “cakieness” of this product.
When I test a mineral foundation and I don’t like the brush, I’ll always give it a second chance using a good brush (usually the Bare Escentuals Flawless Application Face Brush). I did that for this review and still found the product to be just a little cakey.
I will have to try Quo brushes, though, I’ve heard some good things about them ; )
28 Debbie // Feb 13, 2008 at 5:12 am
I tried this and have likes and dislikes about it. I found it to be cakey in some areas on my face yet when I took pictures with it on, it looked very nice.

32 Kasmira // Feb 20, 2008 at 9:32 am
I tried the L’Oreal mineral makeup after watching too many Sheer Cover infomercials.
I agree with the other posters that the brushes that come with the product are awful! I use my own fluffy powder brush for the foundation and a concealer brush for the concealer and am so happy with the results.
I only bought the concealer because the L’Oreal was buy one, get one free. However, I love the concealer most of all. I can layer it very thickly to cover my dark undereye circles without it LOOKING like thick makeup. I can get a sheer cover of the red capilliaries around my nose. And it is the ONLY concealer I have found that stays on zits. (The creams and sticks and liquids just slide off.)
The color of the foundation is slightly orange…but I’ve had less of a problem with that since I stopped using the package brush and got a lighter application.
Close-up of me in the makeup here:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/47241502@N00/2212150484/
(I use a cream/stick blush, though, not a powder or a mineral powder.)
33 Jazmin // Feb 20, 2008 at 10:06 am
Hi Kasmira! Thank so much for stopping by and sharing your makeup moxie with us! And you look gorgeous in your photo, btw ; )
lol, I totally understand about the infomercials…that’s how I got roped into trying Bare Minerals and Proactiv (though both remain two of my faves ; )
I haven’t tried the Bare Naturale concealer, but now you’ve got me interested! How would you say that it compares to the foundation…more highly pigmented? finer texture?
34 Kasmira // Feb 21, 2008 at 8:06 am
I’d say that the concealer texture is much finer than the foundation. The foundation is almost gritty, while the concealer is more like powdered sugar.
I can’t tell if it is more highly pigmented because the finer particles created a more opaque finish simply because they pack together more closely.
35 Jazmin // Feb 21, 2008 at 11:00 am
ah, interesting! I’m definitely going to have to try that and review it.
The only other mineral makeup that I’ve used that I really like as a concealer is the one by Mineral Fusion.
So far, none of the drugstore brands have been able to stand up to it.
36 maryann // Feb 26, 2008 at 1:26 pm
I did not like the L’Oreal mineral makeup at all. I am 39 with very few lines under my eyes. After using this product, the tiny lines that are under my eyes were very visible. The product it self was very heavy and cake like. I would not recommend this product at all. Plus there is talc in it. I use Bare Minerals and I am very happy with it. I am anxious to try the Maybelline mineral make up though for a cheaper alternative. I will review that when I run out of Bare Minerals.
37 Lisa // Feb 26, 2008 at 6:55 pm
I just purchased L’oreal Bare Naturale foundation, concealer, eye shadow and finish powder. The first day I put on way to much and I did not like the way my face looked or felt. I normally don’t wear much foundation. I am 46 and have noticed dark circles and puffiness starting to show. I have some lines around my eyes from sun exposure. Today I used less and found it to work better. I have oily skin. I may also look into a different brush to get better control of application as others have shared on this site. Not sure yet if I will buy again and am hoping that this line of product will not make my face break out.
38 Jazmin // Feb 27, 2008 at 1:36 pm
Hi Maryann and Lisa!
Maryann, did you use the brush that came with this foundation? Similar to what Lisa said, using less of this product may improve it’s performance for you.
I do think that the brush is largely to blame for the heavy appearance of this makeup. However, even with the use of a good makeup brush, this makeup still tends to look a little masky.
Maryann, when you try out the Maybelline Mineral Makeup, I’d love to hear what you think of it! Please feel free to leave your review over with mine at this post ; )
And, Lisa, I’d love to hear your final verdict on this makeup ; ) And I also hope that it won’t make you break out! Good luck!
39 Maybelle // Feb 27, 2008 at 5:13 pm
I love the Loreal Bare Natural makeup. I have very very light skin and even the lightest of the light shades tend to mismatch my skin. Most foundations for light light light skin are made for pinkish undertones that people who burn easily have. However, I don’t have pinkish undertones and I don’t burn I turn a light olive color. I also have some blotchness from acne that really bothers me and adds ruddiness. I started using the Loreal mineral makeup last summer and haven’t looked back. It stays put all day long, matches my skin perfectly and covers my blotchness remarkably well. I also have found that I don’t break out as much and when I do break out the pimples are smaller and go away faster. I LOVE LOVE LOVE this product. I really cannot say enough about it. I have tried other mineral makeups and was disapointed that they didn’t match my skintone. But with Loreal it’s not a problem. If you are like me and have tried everything else or have a light light skintone without pink undertones this foundation might be for you too!
40 emily // Mar 11, 2008 at 2:16 am
I’d like to throw in my support with the group who loves this foundation - with a different brush. I use the Bobbi Brown kabuki brush and the finish is natural, sheer and beautiful. I then use the BE Max concealer brush over any spots or blemishes and using the Kabuki again, I blend it all out with loose face powder.
If any of you are looking to invest in a really good Kabuki brush please please consider Bobbi Brown. Yes, it’s expensive but I’ve owned mine and use it almost daily for the last 5 years without shedding or loss of quality. I use it with bronzer, with highlighters, with mineral foundation, and when i want a sheer wash of blush. It’s also lovely to use - soft and dense without the slightest bit if scratchiness.
41 Jazmin // Mar 11, 2008 at 4:49 am
Maybelle: So sorry that I somehow missed your comment there! I’m glad that you — and Emily — both foundation a foundation that you love ; )
And Emily — I agree with you. Bobbi Brown brushes are superb!

I just love the new line of mineral makeup
43 Jazmin // Mar 12, 2008 at 12:27 pm
Hi Shabhana! That’s great! What do you like best about it? : )
44 Laura // Mar 14, 2008 at 12:06 am
I really agree with Maybelle’s comment. I found that it covers well where I have larger pores and seems to give me a more even skintone. I have very minimal scattered freckles I find that I’m able to conceal them with just a tad more powder, if I put on just a soft brush worth of powder the freckles are not hidden but lightly brushed away. The brush that comes with the powder is not the best and I suggest using a better brush. I really love this product and the price is right!
45 Jazmin // Mar 14, 2008 at 5:38 am
Hi Laura! Thanks for sharing your opinion of this foundation ; )
P.S. — I think freckles are pretty and I’d never hide them if I had them! But, at the same time, I also understand that we usually end up wanting what we don’t have (e.g. if you have freckles, you wish you didn’t; if you had straight hair, you wish it was curly, etc ; )
46 Tara // Mar 20, 2008 at 9:57 pm
I love Bare Naturale, have been using it since August of 2006. I love that it does NOT contain Mica. This may be a mineral but it causes breakouts, the itching that you get with some mineral makeups, and allergic reactions, some resulting in big welts and hives and swelling. But we those of us that love this makeup may be out of luck. It looks like they have reformulated Bare Naturale. An ad in Glamour gives new ingredients - similar to BE and EM. It will now contain Mica and Bismuth. I suggest those of us that love this make-up contact L’Oreal to protest the change of formula.
47 Jazmin // Mar 26, 2008 at 12:03 pm
Hi Tara,
Mica is supposed to have a pretty low incidence of causing irritation…and it’s the Bismuth Oxychloride that’s a more likely culprit when it comes to irritating skin.
I’m also pretty sure that this foundation has always had some amount of Bismuth Oxychloride in it. Nevertheless, it couldn’t hurt for you to voice your concerns to L’Oreal.
48 Beech // Mar 27, 2008 at 6:59 pm
Hi, I have this make-up and I like it on every other part of my face but my forehead. I moisturize my forehead like crazy. It’s really dry, probably because of my dry scalp.
And I’ve gotten better at moisturizing my face which has given a slight improvement in coverage. But should I be using this powder on my forehead?
I have a lot of white heads and a few bumps.
And If I could, what would you suggest that I do to give a good coverage over my forehead?
49 Jazmin // Mar 31, 2008 at 5:01 pm
Hi Beech,
What kind of moisturizer are you using? If you’re not experiencing any irritation when using this foundation on the rest of your face, you can certainly try wearing it on your forehead as well.
If you continue to have skin problems, you may want to see your dermatologist. He or she can assess if you have any skin conditions that require treatment…and they can help recommend what’s best for your skin.
I hope that helps!
50 Beth // Apr 1, 2008 at 5:29 am
I’ve been using it for about a year and I like it. I’m 43 , pretty fair, and the lightest color works for me, but L’oreal’s fair ivory shades always do.
Now my teenage niece used it, but her application was a bit too heavy. I had to take the brush and really blend it in for it to look better on her. The trick is in the application. I tap the brush until no more powder comes off before I apply, and then I get a great coverage. If you don’t tap off the brush enough, you are going to end up getting a mask.
51 Jazmin // Apr 4, 2008 at 3:13 pm
Thanks for the application tips, Beth!
52 Tara // Apr 12, 2008 at 9:52 pm
Hi Jazmin, Mica was causing my itching and big red bumps, I know this for sure because I ended up at my dermatologists afer using B.E. Following his advice we found that anything with Mica in it caused this reaction. Mica is in blushes, eyeshadows, eyeliners, foundations, and some face creams. My face looked like I had been attacked by bee’s and I had to use a course of steroids to get the allergic reaction under control. Even my eyes swelled shut because I had gotten the B.E. in them when I applied it. But I have heard the bismuth is an irritant to a lot of people also, but luckely I don’t have a problem with it. Also I did contact L’Oreal and they are very nice, they are changing the ingredients to a formula more like B.E and advised me not to use their new formula.
53 Jazmin // Apr 14, 2008 at 8:08 am
Tara, I’m sorry to hear that you had that kind of reaction…no one should ever have to go through that.
And it sucks that you won’t be able to use your Bare Naturale anymore. Have you found a replacement yet?
54 andrea // Apr 24, 2008 at 3:26 pm
okay–i love this product. However, it wasn’t love at first sight.
I have discovered that with this product you must definitely moisturize your skin first. Apply a nice lotion and let it set in.
Now, the application of the actual powder–you MUST MUST MUST use oh so very little of the makeup. I can’t tell you how horrified i was when i first applied it–it did indeed look chalky and felt heavy–but what i hadn’t discovered was just how little goes a long way. With this product less is most definitely more.
All you need is a very light application. Buff your skin with the slightly powdered brush (you should barely see the powder)and you WILL be amazed.
I have been complimented on my skin while wearing this product like never before. To me, this is truly amazing as i have always been troubled by acne and uneven skin tone. But with this product I have NEVER had a single breakout (my skin looks the best it’s even on its own) and it has it’s own spf. And the best thing is that as it sets in after an hour or so it looks even better than when first applied.
I am a loyal consumer of this product ONCE i learnt the secret to its application. remember: very little goes a long long way.
55 Lisa // May 2, 2008 at 6:46 pm
Well it’s been over a month since using this product and I do like it more and more. Getting a different brush made all the difference and using it sparely. I love that my skin doesn’t get shiny by the end of the day either. Also it hasn’t made me break out. I will continue to use it. I hope they don’t change the formula.
56 Raffaella // May 19, 2008 at 1:10 am
I love this product and will continue to use it. It gives you full coverage and hides a lot of imperfections without feeling heavy or oily like other make-up and foundations do.

I originally bought just the foundation from local drugstore….I had previously tried Neutrogena’s Minerals and didn’t think they were that great. Found the Loreal product to be too cakey. (i like invisible makeup) Was ready to spend the $$ for Bare Minerals but couldn’t find the medium kit anywhere local. Next time I was in Wal Mart I saw that Loreal now has a Sheer Cover - like the Mineral Veil. Works great; spreads out /blends the foundation and my skin has not had any breakouts.
59 Molly. // Jun 19, 2008 at 11:27 pm
Okay well i use the bare naturale. its a little caky if you apply TOO MUCH. i have a few problem areas on my face ha, and it covers red spots nice and stuff. but omg in the summer now when im outside it gets so gross in the sun. im going to the drugstore tomorrow to buy all new makeup:)
i absolutley HATE how messy this product is. like you twist open the top and it just pours out. its so messy.

I acutally really like this product, I just get it in shades darker than I usually do. It doesn’t appear chalky on me, but maybe that’s just becuase I have oily skin.

I purchased the darkest shade (Cocoa), and it is an awesome match. AWESOME! I think I was a bit heavy-handed with my first application this morning, and that caused too much of a matte look. Otherwise, I love the glow, and it doesn’t feel heavy. I was skeptical about the limited shades, and feared that Cocoa might be too dark. Unfortunately Women of Color won’t really have much of a selection with this line. Overall, I’m happy with my selection.

I LOVE this product!! I use it to cover up really red acne.. i put on a moisturizer.. put on some concealer…. then soft ivory.. then the creamy beige right on top!! I use very very little so it never comes out cakey and i circle my brush ALOT to make sure the tiny tiny bit covers my face. I can’t beleieve how many bad reviews this got on here… You MUST use VERY little!!! We’re used to other items putting alot of it on but this product is great. but not everyone can like everything! Hope this helps!! I mix the two colors because my mom bought soft ivory.. to light for her skin and gave it to me. It’s to light for my skin so i mix it with the creamy beige.. but very little of it to get my correct color because I dont wanna buy one hehe (cheapo) But i will go out and buy some more very very soon!! (P.S there are comments about using another brush besides the one given to apply… if you use the very little amount they reccomend and circle it on your face for a long enough time AFTER shaking off the excess you get perfect coverage. ALSO yes.. it does make a little mess but i don’t mind it. I love the packaging.

I’ve been using this product for a month now and I think its ok. It gives good coverage but can look cakey after a few hours. Also, I look oily after a few hours of application. I do use a primer but it still doesn’t work. You should definitely buy a different brush instead of using the horrible one that came with it. I am thinking of giving the Milani brand a try. Do you think it works better than Loreal in terms of oil control? What drugstore brand do you recommend to use as a finishing veil?

I started using this makeup last winter, and loved it! I used the brush that came with, and although it was a liiiittle scratchy (okay, really quite scratchy) I liked the coverage it gave me. I have oily skin, and this managed to keep the shinies away and cover up blemishes. My skin looked so smooth!
For summer, though, I wanted to try something lighter (plus, I needed a different color, since I get a lot of sunshine, and sunshine = tan) so I bought a Sonia Kashuk concealer/foundation/blush trio at Target… which is awful :( My face gets oily not even an hour after applying the makeup, and I haven’t even had a chance to try the blush because the foundation is so terrible.
Lately, I’ve just been going out without makeup, because I was so frustrated with my Sonia Kashuk stuff.. but I’m trying to figure out if I should buy another shade of Bare Naturale for the transition into fall (no way am I wearing the Target makeup on the first day of school! I’m going to be a junior and I’m so psyched to be an upperclassman) or if there’s another makeup I should try.
I ended up buying a really nice ($28!) bareMinerals kabuki brush a few weeks ago to use with my Sonia Kashuk makeup, to see if that would improve its quality, but no go. I’m looking for a relatively inexpensive, light to medium coverage mineral powder that does miracles for oily skin. (lol. I go through a 50-pack of Clean & Clear blotting sheets every three weeks! Screw the shinies! I want maaaaaatte.)
Any suggestions?
P.S. Sorry for the long-ish post. Just wanted to share my experiences and hopefully get some advice on what to do next! I love love love your blog, by the way!

P.P.S. I also have a few freckes here and there, on my nose and at the corners of my eyes. I love them!
And Bare Naturale covers them up quite a bit.. which I don’t love. Ideas?

I like the makeup but agree that the brush that comes with it is not effective. I use a softer kabuki brush from Sephora, and it blends on much nicer. I have tried Bare Minerals but find it does not give enough coverage for aging skin (I’m 46), and this makeup is a better price. I also find it works much better on well moisturized skin. I first use Kinerase Face Lift serum (very pricey but worth it), then moisturize with Olay Color Recapture, then buff this on–looks good for a good part of the day with a couple of quick touch-ups needed. I also like it because the container is much easier to carry in your purse than the Bare Minerals containers–what a mess those are!

I really like this make-up and it does come in darker shades. I think the problem is the appicator brush and the fact that most women do not know how to apply make-up properly. Using a good brush is key for great coverage, and sweating changes the look of most make-up……..hot flashes makes you a real touch-up expert. I like the extra additives, it worked much better that bare minerals which was aweful on my dark skin.

I recently purchased the Loreal Bare Naturale and Loreal’s line of Skin Genesis; Multi-Layer Cell Strengthening Daily Treatment, Eye Serum and Day, Night moisturizer and the gel cleanser. I am 36 years old, not many wrinkles but my skin has changed. Uneven tones, some scars etc. I have used these products faithfully everyday, I look younger, my skin is soft, etc. It took a couple of times applying the foundation, if you follow the directions, especially tapping the excess powder it goes on great. I love this line and will continue using it. Thanks for listening

I don’t understand all the bad press! I love it! Maybe some of you are applying to much of the product. It clearly states on all the leaflets “remember a little goes a long way”. I’ve been getting tons of comps from friends!!

why all the bad press?
this stuff feels lighter than matte or liquid makeup and it covers blemishes &evens tone
i love it!
but it rubs off easy, and dosnt hold up in humidity
otherwise its great!

I can see why some people found it a little cakey, I guess I’m the only one who enjoys the product. I recently starting getting acne (for the first time ever in my late 20’s!) and bare naturale covered up the blimishes nicely and really evened out my tone. It is a bit heavy, so if you do use it, make sure to REALLY tap out the excess before applying it. Hope this helps!
