Smashbox Photo Finish with Dermaxl and SPF 15 Review
The popular Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer has just gotten even better.
The newest Smashbox face primer is now available with wrinkle-fighting Dermaxl Complex and SPF 15 sun protection.
I found very little difference between this primer and the original Photo Finish, except that this new primer didn’t fend off oiliness quite as long as the original. I’m assuming it’s because of the Dermaxl Complex, which is supposed to fight fine lines and moisturize the skin.
If you’ve got very oily skin, you may want to stick with the regular Photo Finish primer or skip the moisturizer when you use this product.
Like the original formula, the Photo Finish with Dermaxl is an excellent primer that helps keep your foundation looking fresher longer. This product is also pretty handy for those times when you really don’t want or need to mess with any makeup — not even a tinted moisturizer (think rolling out of bed on a Saturday morning to wait in line at the Starbucks drive-thru).
Smooth on a little of this primer and your skin looks refined, you’ve got a little sun protection, and all you’ve got to worry about is whether your barista gets your grande, non-fat, 3-pump, White Mocha Latte just right (and they almost always do ;)
Smashbox Photo Finish with Dermaxl Complex is available for $42 from Sephora.

I have tried this, and I really wanted to like it. I’d heard so many wonderful things but, it just didn’t do it for me.
It felt wonderful going on, like the silicone we use in the lab at school sometimes. But then as soon as I applied my foundation, it turned all mealy and that is highly unattractive. Anyone else had this problem?

Hi El,
Eck, I’ve had that problem before too, but I think it tends too happen when you apply too much of the product or you don’t give it a chance to fully sink in and “set.” Try applying only a small amount of the product (a pea-size amount or a tad more should be sufficient) and give your skin some time to absorb it before applying your foundation (your skin should feel smooth and not sticky).
Hopefully that will help fix it for you! If you’re still having problems with it, you can also try using a non-silicone-based primer like the ones from Becca or Laura Mercier : )
