Not to be confused with the popular Jane Iredale mineral makeup, the drugstore-brand Jane Be Pure Mineral Powder is a very basic, no-frills mineral foundation. Its decent performance and low price make it a good buy.
While it’s available as a loose powder foundation, I tried this particular product in its pressed powder form.
What I like about Jane Be Pure Mineral Powder:
- Great Value. Jane Be Pure Mineral Powder is a great deal at only $7 for 0.36 ounces (when compared to bareMinerals, which costs $25 for 0.3 ounces). While this doesn’t haven’t the same staying power as more expensive mineral makeup, a little of this product still goes a long way. Even factoring in multiple touch-ups, this product remains notably inexpensive.
- Nice Finish. Jane Be Pure Mineral Powder is finely milled and blends on smoothly to camouflage small flaws and even skin tone. The sheer formula stays in place and doesn’t cake or run.
What I don’t like about Jane Be Pure Mineral Powder:
- Limited Range of Shades. While the color is fairly sheer and will accommodate a wider range of skin tones, Jane Be Pure (like most drugstore mineral makeup) fails to provide shades for darker skin tones.
- Mediocre Oil Control. If you have very oily skin, a few touch-ups or the occasional use of a facial blotting tissue will eventually be needed to keep the shinies at bay. Considering the low price of the product, however, this shouldn’t be a deal-killer.
The Bottom Line on Jane Be Pure Mineral Foundation: So far, this product is at the top of its class when it comes to value. If you don’t want to spend a lot of money and you’re not expecting a superior performance from this product, Jane Be Pure is a budget-happy alternative to more expensive mineral makeup. This is just a good, simple mineral powder.
Jane Be Pure Mineral Powder is available for $7 from Walgreens.
Has anyone tried Jane Be Pure Mineral Makeup? What do you think of it?

I have used many mineral makeup products. The Jane Be Pure Mineral Makeup is by far the worst product yet.
It is not much of a foundation, but more of a sheer powder.
Gives no coverage, no SPF protection.
Product doesn’t stay on the skin, needs to be reapplied frequently.
Highly disappointing.
Jane Be Pure Mineral Makeup may be cheap, but remember, you get what you pay for.
Don’t waste your money on this product.
Spend a few dollars more and opt for the the L’Oreal Bare Naturale, which is far superior to the Jane brand.

Hi! Thanks so much for sharing your opinion. I agree that L’Oreal has the superior mineral foundation, though I still like Jane Be Pure as a cheap “back-up” powder (something I’d toss in my glove compartment in case of emergency ;)
Have you seen my new post where I rank the mineral makeup drugstore brands? Please be sure to check it out and let me know what you think!

I love Jane mineral foundation! It covers redness very well and stays on for several hours!

Hi Anne,
Thanks so much for sharing your opinion on this product! It always makes me happy to hear that a fellow Makeup Moxie has found a product that she loves :)
And just as a point of reference for anyone else who’s considering buying this product…would you mind sharing your skin type? (dry, normal, oily, combo?).
I have oily/combination skin and found that this product didn’t control shine as long as I’d like (but thank God for blotting papers ;)

It is a nice make up to have in your drawer at work or in your car in case of emergencies. But, the colorless is just that no color.

Hi Jackie, thanks for the comment! That’s exactly what I do with this powder, too! Having it in my glove compartment has definitely come in handy ; )

I have a question about not the Jane Be Pure brand, but Jane Iredale brand. I know it’s kind of confusing to post this here, but this was the only post that the search turned up when searching for “iredale.” Would you recommend it for someone who does not want to look at all like they are wearing makeup, but still wants coverage? It seems really expensive, but I could try their tester kit and see if I like it before going for the actual Amazing Base powder.

Hi Adam! No problem…unfortunately, I haven’t tried Jane Iredale mineral makeup, yet. However, I’ve heard some very good things about the brand.
One of my fellow beauty bloggers (who really knows her mineral makeup) loved the Pure Pressed Base. You can read her review here
I hope that helps!

Hellow fellow makeup lover ! : )
i really want to but the jane be pure in the compact (such as the one in your picture) because if cheap and a “mineral makeup”. Dispite the fact that it is mineral makeup, i have heard that alot of people break out from this. is it true ? should mineral makeup prevent breakouts rather than provoke them ?
thanks ! :)

oh. one more question.
what shade do you have in your picture ?
11 Jazmin // Mar 10, 2008 at 2:46 pm
Hi Kim!
Even though mineral makeup is not likely to “prevent” breakouts, it’s powdered texture makes it less likely to clog pores and, as a result, is less likely to cause breakouts.
It’s important to note, however, that some ingredients in mineral makeup could potentially cause breakouts for some people.
Bismuth Oxychloride, for example, can cause some people to break out (though this is supposed to be something that happens rarely). Some people may even have sensitivity to commonly used ingredients like Zinc Oxide and Titanium Dioxide (though this is even more rare)
And the foundation is pictured in 04 Sandstone ; )

I tried jane be pure last week, and I believe this caused me to have a severe allergic reaction, having changed nothing else in my routine. My face was swollen for a few days, and then dried out for the next few. I have sensitive skin and can’t use “cheap” eyeshadows, either, although the shadows usually just cause itching. Any idea what the ingredient most like is that could do this?

MJ, sorry to hear you’ve been having skin problems.
Which of the Jane Be Pure foundations did you use (the loose powder or the compact formula)?
Though only your dermatologist can really determine what it is that is causing your allergic reaction, there are a number of ingredients that might have caused your irritation — some of the possible culprits are bismuth oxychloride or even possibly the zinc oxide or Titanium Dioxide in these products.
Your reaction could even have been the result of something you ate!
People can experience irritation to almost anything…particularly if they have very sensitive skin.
14 MJ // Mar 14, 2008 at 12:40 pm
It was the loose powder with the sponge top.

Ok, that’s the one whose ingredient list I was looking at when I wrote the comment above.
If you continue to experience irritation, you should definitely see your doctor (if you haven’t already) because he/she is the one who can really pinpoint the cause of your reaction.
