New Hairbrushes Offer Built-in Hair Care

Goody Styling Therapy brushes are infused with special ingredients that may help cut your hair care time in half.

The Goody Styling Therapy collection includes a variety of brushes that are available in three different formulations that address common hair issues.

If you’ve got a flaky scalp, Goody’s “reduce + dandruff” brushes are infused with copper plated bristles that help kill the bacteria and fungi that cause dandruff.

For those of us (me included!) who suffer from damaged hair with split ends, the “add +shine” brush is is infused with Jojoba oil that is supposed to help nourish hair, smooth split ends, and help your hair appear more shiny. Like the “reduce + dandruff” brush, this brush also comes in Cushion, Styler, and Paddle versions to fit your different styling needs.

Finally, for those of you makeup moxies who color your coif, the “protect + color” brush contains boar bristles infused with Questamide (an ingredient similar to the natural oil produced by your scalp), which helps lock in color and moisture.

These “protect + color” brushes come in both a Cushion and Round style and are available in three shades to match your hair color: Blonde to Light Brown (pictured above), Red to Medium Brown and Dark Brown to Black.

Makeup moxies, these ain’t your mama’s Goody brushes (remember those old school ones with the faux wood finish?). Goody Styling Therapy Brushes retail for $11.99 and will be available from local drugstores and Wal-mart.

I’ve not be able to find a store that carries the Goody therapy brushes. I haven’t checked WalMart as yet, but it’s 10 miles from me. I’ve checked Longs Drugs, Walgreens, PayRite and 2 beauty supply stores to no avail. Can you let me know who carries the brushes in the Northern Calif. area,, specifically San Leandro, Pleasanton, Hayward (known as the East Bay).

    Thank you.

    Hi Arlene,

Thanks so much for the question! Sorry to hear you’re having trouble finding these brushes!

It looks like they’re only available from Longs, Meijer, RiteAid, and Wal-Mart.

I’ll check with my contact from Goody and see if he has any insight.

But for now, my best advice is to get out that phone book and start calling up these stores and asking whether they’re carrying the brushes.

Hope that helps (at least somewhat : )! Good luck!

Hi Mary! You’re welcome. Glad it helped!

I threw away the directions. What did it say?

  • 6 Jazmin // Jan 7, 2008 at 5:21 am

    Hi LJ,

Thanks for the question. Which brush do you have?

The instructions for all the brushes say that you should not use the brushes when your hair is wet, nor should you use the brushes while using heat styling tools (the bristles on the Jojoba brush may melt and the copper bristles on the “dandruff” brush may get too hot).

The directions for the “reduce + dandruff” brush recommend brushing your hair and scalp 2-3 times a day for best results.

I don’t think the color-protecting brushes had any special directions (but I’ll have to doublecheck on that one ;)

    Hope that helps!

I was wondering how you are to clean the reduce dandruff brush; I remember there were directions, but I threw them away.

  • 8 LJ // Jan 7, 2008 at 4:59 pm

Thank you for your response. I bought the “Add shine” brush.

  • 9 Jazmin // Jan 9, 2008 at 12:00 am

Hi Nicole! Thanks for the comment…I’ll have to get back to you on that one, but, from what I remember, I don’t think you’re supposed to wash the brush.

    And LJ, you’re welcome!

I guess Goody should have included printed instructions (they’re much easier to save than the whole plastic container ;)

    Nicole,

To clean the Goody dandruff treatment brush, you’re supposed to dip the bristles in a mixture of lemon juice and water and then wipe the brush clean with a dry cloth.

The directions also said that the bristles may become discolored (due to oxidation), but it shouldn’t effect the brush’s performance.

    Hope that helps!

P.S. — Would you mind sharing whether you think the Goody dandruff brush works? And would you recommend it to someone who’s considering buying it?

I have it and so far I like it. I got the big wide brush, and regardless of the scalp issue it’s a good brush all around. As for the scalp issue, it seems to clean the dandruff out, though as of yet I don’t really see a reduction. But i’ve only had it for a few days.

Hi ArouraLeona! Thanks so much for sharing your early impressions of this product! I’m glad you like it and I hope it continues to work for you…and, in the long run, becomes even more effective for reducing dandruff.

I would love to hear what you think of this brush as you continue to use it. Please be sure to give us an update!

Are these brushes avail in South Africa and at which locations/stores?

  • 14 Jazmin // Jan 13, 2008 at 12:59 pm

    Hi Illona,

Thank you for the question! Unfortunately, I really don’t know much about Goody’s international distribution.

I do know that, in America, these brushes are available in Long’s Drugs, Meijer, and Wal-Mart, so if you have any of those chains where you live, I suggest checking there.

I’ll see if I can find any more information on it.

Hope you can track one down!

I was able to find these brushes at a local supermarket by the name of Food Lion (I reside in North Carolina). We are really enjoying them!

  • 16 Jazmin // Feb 4, 2008 at 2:39 pm

Hi Annette! Thanks so much for your comment!

As you can see from the above comments, these brushes have been fairly difficult to get ahold of. That’s wonderful that you’ve been able to try them out!

    Which ones did you get?

  • 17 Mandy // Feb 20, 2008 at 4:55 am

Hi! I saw these brushes at Bloom grocery in Northern VA (metro DC), although they were sold out of all but the blonde color care (I am a proud brunette so I was SOL).

I also saw these on eBay, if you cannot find them locally.

  • 18 Jazmin // Feb 20, 2008 at 6:54 am

Hi Mandy!! Awww, that sucks that you weren’t able to snag one of these to give your beautiful brown hair some lock love ; )

Thanks for the great eBay tip! I’ll throw an ebay link up there to make it easier for anyone who can find these ; )

  • 19 Mouseykins // Apr 1, 2008 at 6:13 pm

I’m hoping to try the copper brush, but was wondering, how long is it supposed to be effective? Will it wear out like toothbrushes do? Thanks for your help!

  • 20 Jazmin // Apr 4, 2008 at 2:23 pm

Hi Mouseykins (I love that name ; ),

I’m not sure how long the copper brush is supposed to be effective, but I’d imagine that it would last longer than a toothbrush.

I mentioned above that the directions for the brush state that even if the bristles oxidize and change color, the brush is still supposed to work (so I’d imagine it would take a fair amount of time for that to happen).

Furthermore, since the bristles themselves are copperplated, you’d think they’d last a pretty long time.

    I hope that helps somewhat!

They’re available on Amazon for $13 for each of them. They’re not eligible for free Super-Saver shipping, though.

  • 22 Jazmin // May 1, 2008 at 12:55 pm

    Awesome! Thanks, Manda ; )

Hi Mandy! I was just wondering, i have brown hair. It’s not super light or super dark, It’s the same colour as Miley Cyrus. I recently bought the Questamide infused blonde brush, in hopes it would illuminate my blonde highlights. Do you think it would do that? Even a little? Thanks! Love the site!
