Pssst! Your mascara is smudged…

dames de la cour
Dames de la Cour (”Women of the Court”) by Jean Baptiste Debret (1821-1831)
(Click image to see enlarged in new window)

Take a look at the lavishly dressed women on the left. These two Brazilian beauties were most likely members of Rio’s imperial court in the mid-Nineteenth Century.

I love their knowing, rosy-lipped smiles (and the enviably long lashes of the woman on the right ;)

Have these friends just shared a secret…like a hushed confession to crushing on a royal hottie nearby? Or perhaps one of them is asking the quick-but-crucial question that I’ve asked (and been asked by) my own sisters and best girlfriends dozens of times: “Is my makeup okay?”

Wherever you’re off to tonight, buy your best gal pal a drink. It’s the least you can do for all the times when she’s frankly replied, “Your mascara’s smudged.”

Hope you’re having a great weekend, makeup moxies, and I hope you enjoy this week’s installment of The Blog Network’s Weekly Beauty Read:

Oh my gosh!! What a wonderful post!! The picture is gorgeous and totally makes me think of the times I’ve asked my sisters and friends, “How’s my make-up?” or “Hey, do I have a booger in my nose? :D Thanks, Jazmin! BTW, where do you find this stuff???

Hi Trish! Glad you like the post…and that you can relate, LOL!

As for the images that I use for posts like these, I have a big collection of them — many of which I’m able to find from sources like Wikipedia.

I love art and literature and , as you already know, I also love makeup and beauty :) And, because of these interests, I can’t help but see where all of these subjects sort of intersect with each other…and it makes me want to share it with all of you!
