Cosmedicine Medi-Matte Oil Control Lotion works well…and, in a way, perhaps even too well.
When I first tried Medi-Matte, I applied a small amount to my very oil-prone T-zone. It had an immediate, mattifying effect and did a great job of making my pores look smaller and my skin appear more refined.
My skin stayed completely shine-free for about two hours. After about six to eight hours, my skin was noticeably greasy, but still not the total oil-slick that it would have been had I left my skin totally untreated.
Since this shine-control lotion did such a good job of blurring pores and creating a smooth surface for makeup application, I did what any makeup moxie would do: I smeared that stuff on and tried to use it as an all-over face primer. And that’s when the problems started.
While Medi-Matte did a great job of keeping the shinies at bay, it actually made the less-oily parts of my face feel tight and dry.
Unless you have extremely oily skin, I would recommend using Medi-Matte only as a spot treatment for the oiliest parts of your face. I’ll try to revisit this product during the warmer months and see if it’s more comfortable to wear as a face primer in hotter weather when my skin tends to produce more oil.
Another reason why I would love to use Medi-Matte as a summertime foundation primer is that it has the added benefit of a skin-loving SPF 20 sunscreen.
Overall, Cosmedicine Medi-Matte is great for absorbing oil and controlling shine and it does earn my stamp of approval.
Cosmedicine Medi-Matte Oil Control Lotion costs $42 and is available from Sephora.
Has anyone tried Cosmedicine Medi-Matte Oil Control Lotion? What do you think of it?

The trick with the product is to use just a little bit - smearing it isn’t a good idea. About a pea or nickel size amount will cover your whole face. I’ve found it keeps my shine under control even though I’m not very oily.

Hi Ab! Thanks for the great tip!
For me, using a pea or dime-sized amount for just my oily T-zone worked great and I actually did try testing this product again — but with a smaller amount on my cheeks and the rest of my face.
The result was still a bit too dry for my comfort. Then again, it could just be my skin acting up (as it tends to do during this time of year : )
Thanks for sharing your opinion!

this stuff mattifies my oily nose like nothing else can. however, $42 for such tiny tube means I probably won’t be buying it again….

Hi Charlotte! Thanks for the comment!
I agree that the price is kind of steep. On the other hand, since you only need such a small amount of this product for it to be effective, it may be a better value in the long run.
If you haven’t already, you may want to check out the new Cargo blu_ray mattifier. It’s great stuff…and only $24 a tube (though the tube is even smaller than the one from Cosmedicine ; )

Hi Jazmin! I have been reading all your reviews on face primers for mattifying oil skins. I have the smashbox photo finish color correcting in adjust and this is great for smoothing out skin, not so great for toning down redness and does nothing for oily skin!! lol Sooo I am in the market for a good mattifying primer because I am an oil rig!!! And my face looks sooo shiny when I wear foundation! I use MACs Select SPF 15 so its not the type to give you the “dewy” look so im looking extra dewy all on my own eww :( So for someone that has a very oily tzone and sorta oily cheeks (but I noticed they can get very dry when I apply powder to them so maybe not so bad as my tzone).. which is the BEST primer? Cosmedicine, Cargo or Becca? I will only be applying to my tzone though :-)

Hey Liz! Awww…I totally understand the battle for oil control ; ) (and I love the term “oil rig”…I”ll have to remember to use that, lol!)
Ok, so out of the primers I’ve tried, the best to use for a super oily T-zone is Cosmedicine. But as I mentioned above, it can make your less-oily areas feel dry, though this shouldn’t be a problem since you said that you’re only using it for your T-zone ; )
Hope that helps! If you try it, be sure to let me know how it goes!
