Maybelline Mineral Makeup Review
In a delayed entrance into the mineral makeup market, Maybelline’s “Mineral Power” makeup line has finally arrived.
But were Maybelline’s cold-filtered, triple-refined minerals worth the wait?
Does the powder foundation deliver on its promises of a “natural luminous finish” and “healthy refined coverage”?
The answer is yes…but with an important exception.
What I like about Maybelline Loose Mineral Foundation:
- Superb Value and a Brush That Actually Works!
In my Drugstore Mineral Makeup Rankings, I repeatedly complained about other brands’ use of gimmicky and impractical packaging that included built-in brushes that left a lot to be desired.
I asked for a lower-priced product with a no-frills sifter jar…and Maybelline delivered.
At only $8.98 for 0.28 oz* of powder foundation AND a nice mini kabuki brush (that actually gets the job done), Maybelline Loose Mineral Foundation is now the #1 drugstore mineral makeup when it comes to value.
- Excellent Range of Shades. With its impressive range of 12 shades, Maybelline Mineral Power now boasts the best shade-range available from any drugstore mineral makeup brand.
- Fresh Finish & Buildable Coverage.
When I first applied this foundation, I was impressed with its radiant finish and natural-looking color that can be layered on for light to medium coverage.
The fresh-looking finish has a very slight sheen, which probably won’t be problematic for anyone except those who prefer a more matte finish…or have very oily skin.
This leads me to….
The Product’s Biggest Drawback
This mineral makeup, by itself, won’t work well for oily skin types.
Though I loved the way this makeup looked when I first applied it, my oily/combo skin was starting to show some shine after only two hours of normal wear. Four hours after the initial application, it was Oil-Slick City.
To give this foundation some credit, it didn’t break down and become cakey. On the other hand, it had more of a tendency to settle into pores and make the oily areas of my skin look even shinier.
The good news? If you have normal-to-dry skin and you feel like other mineral foundations make your skin feel and look dry, this may be a fantastic product for you to try out.
For those with oily skin who’d still like to try this foundation, the good news is that wearing a good oil-absorbing face primer will control shine and significantly extend the wear of this foundation.
The Bottom Line on Maybelline Mineral Makeup: This foundation is a “must-try” for those with normal-to-dry skin types, Makeup Moxies who have had problems finding drugstore mineral makeup in a shade that matches their skin color, and the bargainistas who are looking for a great deal.
How does this effect the Drugstore Mineral Makeup Rankings?
Maybelline Mineral Powder Foundation takes the cake in terms of value. In terms of quality, I would rank it at #2 to tie with Milani.
Stay tuned for an official update of the Drugstore Mineral Makeup Rankings…as well as more reviews of Maybelline Mineral Power products.
Maybelline Mineral Power Powder Foundation is available for about $9 from stores like CVS, Walgreens, Target, and Wal-Mart.
Your turn, Makeup Moxies. What do you think of the new Maybelline mineral makeup? Please be sure to leave a comment!
* Taking into account the smaller amount of Maybelline mineral makeup needed to achieve a look comparable to one using the previously top-ranked Milani Minerals, Maybelline is a better value at $9.62 for 0.3 oz (vs. Milani’s cost of $14 for 0.3oz).
Please visit this post for more information on how I determined the “value” of these products.

Ooh! I have dry skin and I’ve shyed away from mineral makeup for fear that it would make me look too dry. I can afford to pick this up and experiment.

Hi Laura,
Thanks so much for leaving a comment! If you try this mineral foundation, be sure to come back and let us know what you think of it ; )

It’s great to see someone take the time to look at the cheaper end of the make-up spectrum – thank you. Whilst we all like to spoil ourselves we also like a bargain when it’s good!

Hi there! It’s my pleasure…and I couldn’t agree with you more. Plus, I’m a big believer that any one can feel and look glamorous — regardless of her beauty budget!
Thanks for the comment; it’s always nice to see you here!

Thanks for the review!
Most makeup irritates my skin, and I’m allergic to so many things that I usually just stick to what works and rarely try new foundations. I’ve been using Chanel without problems for a long time, but I picked up the liquid version of this on a whim yesterday. They actually put the plastic seal over the entire bottle, including the fold-out flap with the ingredients! Luckily somebody already ripped one open so I checked the ingredients and it seemed safe enough for me.
I initially considered getting the powder but ultimately didn’t because I thought it wouldn’t work on my dry-ish skin. (I hadn’t discovered this blog until just now.) I’ve also always avoided Maybelline because I have very warm-toned fair/light skin and their foundations always look very pink or orange on me. I bought the lightest shade (#0) in this; if there’s a wide shade selection from very fair and beyond, I’m usually more like the second lightest warm shade. Either the shades run dark or it’s my winter pastiness, but it seems to match decently. I have to say I’m pretty impressed overall. Good coverage, lightweight, and very natural-looking. I had to be extra careful around dry patches though. I’m crossing my fingers that I don’t change colors or break out because I wouldn’t mind switching to this as my everyday foundation instead of the Chanel.

Hi Nishita! You’re very welcome…and thanks so much for visiting and leaving your impressions on the Maybelline Liquid Mineral Foundation!
I’ve been wearing it for the last couple days and I think I pretty much agree with your take on the product being natural-looking and providing decent coverage (but more on that in my full review to come :)
Which Chanel foundation do you use?
I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you, too! Please be sure to let me know how it goes!

Ok I just found this product and I love it! I used to spend $48 on Jane Iredale. The only reason I picked this up was because of the price and range of shades. After using Jane Iredale for the last 4 yrs, I am so happy to get a bargain. I used the liquid foundation and am looking forward to moving on to the powder when my other is done.
I say go for it you have nothing to lose!! As for the oily part…try the liquid foundation then seal it with the powder. See if that helps.
Thanks!

I have dry skin, so this’ll be perfect for me!

Hi Mary!
Thanks so much for your comment and for sharing your opinion on this product!
I’m so happy that you’ve found a product that you like and that works for you (and lets you save some money!).
And setting the foundation with a good powder is an excellent tip! Thanks again for for the comment!

Hi DivaShop! It’s great to see you here!
I think you’ll like this stuff. When you try it out, I’d love to hear how it goes!
11 Davina // Jan 14, 2008 at 7:01 am
I LOVE this stuff, the only thing I don’t like is the brush (it’s a little too stiff).
12 Laura Finger // Jan 14, 2008 at 8:50 am
This is my review, as requested. To be fair to Maybelline, I think that I got the wrong shade. I got the light/ natural 5 shade, and since it was the only “light” shade at my local Target, I assumed it was the only light option. I tried going to their website to see if the foundation came in other shades, but the product wasn’t even listed on their website (??!!!??), nor could I find it on Drugstore.com. I see a trip to Ulta in my future. Why? Because I really liked this foundation.
I’ve played around with mineral makeup in the past, and this is my first foray into mineral foundations. I’d stayed away from them since I have dry skin. But the price was low enough that I could afford to dry it and any review recommending a product for dry skin just perks my ears up.
The kabuki brush was my least favorite part of the packaging. The bristles are so stiff that they felt like they were scratching my face. It placed dots of color on my face that were hard to blend. Luckily, I have a larger, softer Bobbi Brown kabuki I can use next time.
The finish is subtle and felt very light on my skin. It didn’t cover my blemishes, but I always go for the lightest coverage I can get, and in that sense it really delivered. It really sat well on my skin, and didn’t make my face feel dry or tight. And it didn’t slide off of my skin within a few hours.
On the other hand, I got a color that was a little too brown/ orange to be natural. Hopefully I’ll find a better shade at a store that has a wider selection. At the end of the day it was really easy for me to take this off with a facial cleanser, which I always love.
13 Jazmin // Jan 14, 2008 at 6:35 pm
Hi Davina! Thanks so much for your comment!
You and Laura both mention the brush issue. I agree that it is a bit stiff and, while it’s not one that I would ever buy by itself, I think that it still deserves praise when compared to the nightmarish brushes included with Neutrogena and Milani’s mineral makeup products.
It may not be luxe, but it’s cheap and gets the job done ; )
Laura – Thanks for the fantastic review! It’s great to know how well this product works for someone with a dry skin type.
And I’m really happy that you found a product that you like! I don’t have a color chart for this foundation, but I’m fairly sure that there are shades lighter than the ones you tried.
You may also want to check out your local drugstores, or even Wal-Mart, to see if they have more colors in stock.
Thanks again for sharing your “makeup moxie” and writing up this fab review!

15 sarahPUFFY! // Jan 16, 2008 at 6:22 am
This foundation…really irked me. I’ve had problems in the past with Maybelline foundation, and this was no different. Usually streaky, leaves my skin icky, wrong shades. I have oily/combo skin, so that makes it worse. I decided to try the mineral foundation because I’d been looking for one for a while.
This time, it was the wrong shade – again. I applied this foundation with 2-3 different brushes. I got the lightest dark shade, Tan 1. Turns out, its too dark. I have to go into the medium shades now, which I find incredibly awkward, since I’m not that light.
At least my money didn’t go to waste – turns out, the foundation was perfect…for my mother. She’s usually the darkest shade in foundations. You can imagine my surprise applying this to her face, and hers as well.
And, about the brush – once you wash it, its great. It won’t be as scratchy, and its perfect with my MAC Studio Fix.
All in all, I wouldn’t mind buying this again. I may have to go with Translucent, though – at least then I can wear it over moisturizer or something of the sort. If I ever decide to go into the Medium shades, I’ll check the testers first – at least then, I’ll know what I’m getting into.
16 Jazmin // Jan 16, 2008 at 7:06 am
sarahPUFFY! Welcome back…and baby, I love your “makeup moxie”! Thanks for the great tip about the brush, I’ll definitely have to try that out.
And not only is it great that your mom got a new foundation, but now we know that this line really is working for a wide range of skin tones : )
Thanks for commenting!
17 Angel // Jan 16, 2008 at 10:15 am
The coverage is decent, but I agree with what everyone has said concerning the oily skin issue….my blot tissues work, but I hate to have to use them only an hour or so after applying my makeup, especially when I go from class to class. However, the caramel shade in the dark family matched my skin perfectly, and before my skin got oily, I had a really dewy glow that looked like I barely had on makeup. It isn’t a miracle-worker (I do have problem skin with acne scarring) but it’s great for the low price. Try it under the Dream Matte Mousse to take away some of the sheen an hour later.
18 Jazmin // Jan 16, 2008 at 9:13 pm
Hi Angel! Thanks so much for sharing your opinion about this makeup…it sounds like we had the same experience.
And what a great tip about the Dream Matte Mousse! I’ve never the tried the stuff, so maybe I’ll pick myself up one of those cute little pots ;)

Hello.
I purchased the whole mineral power line yesterday, when I went to buy some masacra, husband wasn’t to happy until he saw the bill. (Whew!) I first tried the liquid foundation, which provided great coverage of my skin ( I have alot of redness) and if you use the concealer after the foundation you can blend it better. It seems to work better on my skin that several other more expensive products such as bare minerals, and their line of products which I normally use. (Yay for the price difference!)
20 Jazmin // Jan 19, 2008 at 11:15 am
Hi Christi,
It’s great to hear that you’ve found a makeup that you love…and that saves you money! Now you can go buy even more makeup (don’t worry, we won’t tell your hubby ; )
I haven’t tried the Mineral Power Concealer, yet. But now you’ve got me really interested!
Thanks so much for commenting!

Hey Makeup Moxie,
I have a question and I really want to try this but I need to know if it is talc free or not? and i was wondering if you ever tried Physician Formula Mineral Wear, if so how does it works for you.?
22 Jazmin // Jan 21, 2008 at 10:09 am
Hi Rae, thanks so much for the great questions!
This mineral makeup does not contain talc.
And, yes, I have tried Physician Formula Mineral Wear (also talc-free : ). I liked it, but I didn’t think it was a good value. If you’d like, you can check out my review here.
Hope that helps!
23 Mary // Jan 24, 2008 at 6:07 pm
An update on the product: after wearing for a few weeks I am still very pleased with this foundation. If you have dry skin, this is perfect. DO NOT USE POWDER IF YOUR SKIN IS DRY!
I use a loose powder to set the foundation but it’s not necessary.
As for the shades: I bought mine at Longs Drugstore and they had samples to try.
I picked 2-3 shades and just placed them along the jawline/cheek area. When it disappears, it’s your shade! Many women tend to think they are darker than they really are–ME!!!
You have to remember foundation can darken as the day goes on with our natural oils and if you put powder in that equation it’s darker.
Try to buy a little lighter–you can always use a nice bronzing powder to make your face look sunkissed. I still stick to my guns that this is just as good as the Jane Iredale I was paying $48 for.
I’m 45 and my face is looking good!!!
24 pouneh // Jan 24, 2008 at 8:20 pm
I have always attempt to be smart about buying makeup or any beauty products that means i read reviews online a lot and your site is my #1 source!
I aculy liked the Neutrogena’s mineral wear but like many others i got very frustrated with shaking it to get the prouduct out although i adored the purse friendly package i had to replace it to started searching…when i read ur review i decided to give Maybelline a chance…and i can’t be happier the coverage is great the package is still purse friendly it is easy to apply and it was even easier to find my shade!! I hope they will continue making this line it is great!
25 Jazmin // Jan 25, 2008 at 2:22 pm
Hi Mary! I’m so glad that you’re still loving this foundation. And thanks so much for sharing all your “makeup moxie” with us!
And Pouneh! You’re too sweet. Thanks so much for reading; your feedback really means a lot to me :)
And I’m SO glad that you’re happy with your Maybelline Mineral Power makeup!! I hope they continue making this line, too because it’s always nice to have a lot of choices when it comes to makeup :)
Thanks for commenting and sharing your experience!

Just a note to the ladies that are wanting to try this:
If you read my above mini review, then you know that this foundation really pissed me right off. I mean, REALLY. Especially as a girl with darker skin, when its hard to find good shades. But I decided to buy it again in Translucent, and its the best. No white cast, no streaking – and even when my face got greasy, the foundation still looked nice! Just grab a blotting sheet and you’re fabulous again. Now that’s joy, especially with my oily/combo skin.
Hopefully this calms any qualms with this foundation. :]
27 Jazmin // Jan 25, 2008 at 3:08 pm
Way to calm the qualms, Sarah! Just so we’re all clear on your key to using this makeup…are you wearing it by itself? Or over a foundation or moisturizer?
I’ll definitely to try this one out ; )
28 Trish // Jan 25, 2008 at 9:16 pm
I just bought this foundation and I must say–I totally love it! I have oily/combo skin, so I was a bit skeptical about it staying in place. But I was very pleasantly suprised! It really held up throughout the day and the shade was PERFECT — Hello Medium #2, baby! Good-bye, Bare Minerals!
Thanks for the review, Jazmin! If it wasn’t for this blog, I would never have given this foundation a chance. But I do agree with some of the reviewers above–the brush does suck.
29 Grace // Jan 27, 2008 at 5:02 am
If you have oily skin then I would really suggest using Mineral Veil (by Bare Escentuals, $19). It will give any makeup you wear a beautiful finish and extend its wear, and it will make you look flawless. So if you wear mineral makeup (whether drugstore or high-end), or liquid foundation and you’re having a problem with shine or an oily complexion an hour after applying your makeup then it’s definately worth it to invest in mineral veil, which comes in original (for oilier skin types), tinted (for oilier skin types and either very fair or very dark skins) and feather light (if you have dry skin). It lasts a really long time so is worth the investment.
30 sarahPUFFY! // Jan 27, 2008 at 11:43 am
Lately, I’ve been wearing it on its own, with concealer, blusher, and a contour; over moisturizer after washing my face. It worked pretty well with my creme blusher, and was awesome with my Hourglass Duo. I haven’t tested it over foundation or a tinted moisturizer yet, but I plan to. I do wish that they had a pressed version – I keep the whole thing in my bag for touch ups, which is pretty difficult between classes, haha. But I’m willing to work with it!
31 NancyNJ // Jan 28, 2008 at 12:10 am
no spf in this either! too many curious ingredients for me as well. i like mineral fusion the best so far. just ordered bareescentuals from qvc, we’ll see.
32 Jazmin // Jan 28, 2008 at 7:55 am
Trish: lol, you’re so welcome! And I’m so glad that you’ve found a new foundation that you love! Thanks so much for sharing your opinion on it!
Grace: Thanks for sharing your product rec…Mineral Veil is a favorite of mine, too ; )
And speaking of Mineral Veil, saraPUFFY, if you’ve tried it, how would you say it stacks up against your translucent Mineral Power?
A pressed version would be awesome…the last thing you need when running to class is to pull out a book covered in face powder (and, yes, I’m speaking out of experience, lol).
Nancy NJ: I really like Mineral Fusion, too. It has a more matte finish than Bare Escentuals. I’d love to hear what you think of the Bare Minerals when you try it!
And the Maybelline Mineral Power does have some level of sun protection in it. Annoying enough, the label doesn’t state how much sun protection is in it, but zinc oxide, which is one of the main ingredients, is a natural sunscreen that’s commonly used in mineral makeup.
33 jonesygirl9 // Jan 28, 2008 at 12:48 pm
All I can say is…..WOW!!! I am a makeup artist with 15 years experience of using everything under the sun…Have used mineral powders years before they were popular, and was consistently disappointed. I always shied away from drugstore brands…the “snob” in me wouldn’t allow me to try them. I broke away from my Jane Iredale because I am now a nursing student…and BROKE!! Decided to give the pressed mineral powder from Maybelline a try…I am in love!! I love the sponge that comes with it, the swivel mirror….I just peeled the Maybelline sticker off the front, and it looks cool. I have combo skin that is dry around my eyes and mouth (I am 42) and occasionally break out. This powder gives a seamless look, no oily breakthrough, beautiful color…I was so excited I went and bought the concealer and mascara….THE BEST!!
34 sarahPUFFY! // Jan 28, 2008 at 1:04 pm
I’ve actually never used Mineral Veil – I’m sure that its much better than Maybelline’s version as of staying power. But its great for those that want to venture into Minerals without taking a huge wallet plunge.
And boy, I’ve had the powder thing happen to me, too. After I dropped my Studio Fix on the floor [god bless my soul], it almost made a mess in my bag. I think I should write a plea to Maybelline. >.<
35 Tyra // Jan 28, 2008 at 3:27 pm
I wasn’t pleased at all. Believe it or not the L’Oreal had better results for me than Maybelline. I was a bit disappointed seeing that I have used their foundation mousse for a while. Between the oil issue and the fact that their intial colors that hit the stands were really not for African Americans, I was not happy at all. And like the other lady said, It’s not even on their own web site…wth?
36 Jazmin // Jan 28, 2008 at 4:50 pm
Hi jonesygirl9! Thanks for leaving a comment! Are you sure your pressed powder is from the Mineral Power line? I thought Maybelline’s mineral foundation was only available in the loose powder and liquid formulas…if there’s a pressed version, then I totally missed it (and will be making my way back to the drugstore)!
I’m so glad that you found some new products that you love…and won’t break your beauty budget! ; )
sarahPUFFY: great point about this makeup being a lower-cost introduction to mineral makeup! And, yes, Lord help you for abusing your Studio Fix, lol
Tyra: Sorry to hear that you didn’t have a very good experience with this makeup. I thought this line would offer better options for darker skin tones than L’Oreal Bare Naturale, so it’s really interesting to hear about your experience with it. Thanks for sharing your opinion!
And, for some reason, the mass retail brands take much longer to update their websites (annoying, I know).
37 Brit Lee // Jan 29, 2008 at 2:17 am
I don’t know.. there are a lot of strange chemicals in make-up these days, but this stuff is pretty bad.
Which is ironic, considering it’s supposed to be a natural mineral-based formula. It has a chemical (PFTE) in it that is pretty much the same stuff as Teflon – the stuff they spray over pans to give them their non-sticking property.
If you are comfortable putting that on your face, go ahead.. Just a forewarning though.
38 Jazmin // Jan 29, 2008 at 9:51 am
Hi Brit Lee! This product does *not* contain PTFE.
And the great news is that, with the rise in the organic/natural beauty industry, there are many other products to choose from, if you want to avoid some of the ingredients that are in this makeup!
39 Dina // Jan 29, 2008 at 7:00 pm

HELLO MAKEUP MOXIES!
I already left a review on this product but from today’s experience i think i should add a little more to it. Currently i am taking hip hop dance class in college and it is basically 50-60 mins of nonstop workout! this morning i put on my new fav makeup with out any hope of looking the same after my class espacialy since i had some bas allergies my skin is not in it’s best shape and i have well had (i took care of today) this red spot on my cheeks so i went to class and enjoyed every moment of it. After i just couldn’t w8 to take a shower to my surprise as i looked in the mirror i noticed my makeup is not GONE!! it did not look as good as when i put it on but that is only noticeable in magnifying mirror haha! So go ahead and enjoy the way without being worried ur makeup will come off if u have a lil fun ;)
41 Jazmin // Jan 30, 2008 at 12:26 pm
Hi Dina! Thanks for the question! My (rough) guess would be Medium #2 or #3, but be sure to purchase this makeup from a place that will allow you to return/exchange it, if it’s the wrong color. Hope that helps!
And hi again, Pouneh! Glad to hear that you’re enjoying your hip hop class…and that you’re happy with the way your makeup survived your workout!!
P.S. — working out while wearing makeup isn’t the best for your skin because it can clog pores. To keep your skin in as good of shape as your bod, you might want to carry some makeup remover towelettes to quickly cleanse skin before working out…I know it’s kind of a pain and you won’t look quite as glam (but it’s still good for you : )
Nevertheless, it’s great to know that this makeup will hold up pretty well for you once you take those new hip hop moves out to a club! Have fun!
42 sarahPUFFY! // Jan 30, 2008 at 1:36 pm
I have to agree with Tyra, the shades for darker tones were horrible. If I decide to try the coloured foundation, I’ll have to go into the Medium shades, which may be WAY too light for me. I can’t win! That’s why I went with Translucent!
43 Pouneh // Jan 30, 2008 at 9:17 pm
HI again hahah thnx for the advise i know that and i usually go makeup free (but lip balm is a must for me) but that day teh red spot was just something i could not stand hehehe :)
ps. i just got myself a new Kabuki brush so this makeup even looks better :)
44 Monica // Jan 31, 2008 at 8:41 am
Hi, I am so glad I found this site. I just bought the Maybelline in the lightest shade I could find, I am blonde with pretty pale skin. But after really looking at it, it shade says Translucent. Is that coverage at all? I am new to this mineral makeup (tried Neutrogena but it was too dark for me) so maybe I am not doing it right. also what would be good to use with it for the dreaded dark circles! I am 42 so, not as young and fresh anymore! Thank you
45 jonesygirl9 // Jan 31, 2008 at 11:46 am
Hello, again…to answer the question about the pressed powder, yes, they do have it in a pressed compact…I bought mine at Target here in Southern California…I understand everyone’s concern about wanting to use a completely “natural” product…I hate to burst someone’s bubble, but even those so called “organic, natural” products with no so-called “chemicals” still contain traces, and let’s not forget, many people with allergies will still have problems with “all natural” ingredients…I just wade through all the boloney and try to find the products that work the best, for the best price…and don’t test on animals. And as far as I know, Maybelline does not…If someone knows differently, PLEASE let me know. That is really the most important thing for me, above all else. Thanks for reading my bit…peace to all you other makeup moxies…
46 Jazmin // Jan 31, 2008 at 4:16 pm
Pouneh: Hi! lol, you’re welcome. And I was just talking about your skin…lip balm is a must for me too when I’m panting away on a treadmill : ) Oooh, and a new kabuki brush. That’s awesome!
Monica: I haven’t tried the Translucent shade of this makeup yet, but I highly doubt that it will offer you much coverage at all. Miss sarahPUFFY? I know you’ve been rocking the Translucent Mineral Power, so if you have any info for Monica, could you please advise?
Monica, my advice for now is to try to get ahold of one of the light shades of this makeup and see how you like it. If you still have problems finding a good match, please let me know and I’ll see what I can do for you.
Now, I know for a fact that 42 is an absolutely gorgeous age : ) But I also understand the desire to banish the “dreaded dark circles.” My best advice is to have a makeup pro (at a beauty counter or at a Sephora) help you find a concealer that matches your skin tone and will get the job done right.
If you want to go the drugstore route, I’ve recently been testing out, and really liking, Maybelline’s Age Rewind concealer. It’s double-ended with a regular concealer on one side and a highlighter on the other. I found that the highlighter is great for deflecting light and brightening up under-eye circles. The only drawback is that it comes in a limited range of shades.
I think it may be worth a shot, though. If you try it please let me know what you think!
If any of you lovely makeup moxies have any suggestions for Monica, please feel free to chime in!
joneseygirl: Thanks for the info, it’s great to know that this foundation comes in a powder version as well.
And thanks so much for sharing your opinion on finding makeup that works. I can’t argue with you there ;)
As for Maybelline testing on animals, I’m not really sure. What I do know is that its parent company, L’Oreal, does test some of its ingredients on animals. After doing a little googling on it, I’ve found some (older) sources that say that Maybelline provided a statement to PETA confirming that it didn’t test on animals.
However, PETA’s current Do Test/Don’t Test Lists don’t reflect this.
I’ll poke around some more and see what I can find out for you.

Hey, thought i would let you know that the Revlon Mineral was pretty good. It gets a bit oily on the nose after a while, but overall the coverage was great as well as the colors for African Americans. the only unfortunate part was that Revol didn’t come out with anything other than the foundation (so far). So I kept the sheer veil from Maybelline and bought a L’Oreal concealer. Why didn’t you have it on your chart?
48 Jazmin // Feb 1, 2008 at 11:27 am
Hi Tyra,
Glad you found one that worked for you! It’s not on the chart yet because I haven’t updated it : )
I’ll do that soon, though!
49 sarahPUFFY! // Feb 1, 2008 at 5:47 pm
To Monica!
I’m a dark skinned girl, and I got the Translucent shade – and it actually gave me some natural coverage! If you would like more coverage, just take four dots of liquid foundation [forhead, chin, and cheeks, respectively], and then buff on the maybelline foundation.
Now, if you don’t want to do that, you should go for their light range of shades. Really, it couldn’t hurt – and they generally match lighter tones really well.
Good luck!
50 yen_nay // Feb 2, 2008 at 1:46 am
Hi, first off I just wanted to say that this website is super helpful and really cute (pink and green, haha).
I love Maybelline and I use the whipped mousse foundation in Medium 0/Light Beige which matches my skin PERFECTLY. I really want to try the mineral makeup but they don’t have it in that specific shade. Should I go a shade lighter? (Light 5/Creamy Natural) or the one after? (Medium 1/Sandy Beige).
Mind you I have yellow undertones and I guess my real question would be which one is more suitable for that undertone. I think the lighter shade may be too pink-ish?
Also, the information about the mineral makeup was not on the website because the commercial just came out…they usually don’t post info about new products until they mass advertise it in some way. I know it’s weird but..oh well. They have it on the website now though.
51 Paige // Feb 3, 2008 at 1:48 pm
I have combo skin with an oily t-zone but everywhere else is good. Like you said, this makeup is great but makes my oily areas (mainly my chin *sigh*) look shiny and slightly cakey. I don’t like the brush it came with, so I ended up using my mom’s bareMinerals handled brush. I also have incredibly pale skin, and couldn’t seem to find the normal color (porcelain ivory or light 1) and had to settle for light 2 and it turned out to blend well. I liked this makeup a lot. I just need to find an oil control lotion and it’d be perfect :D
52 Stephanie // Feb 4, 2008 at 12:00 am
I love this stuff! Great coverage, colors, and a good price. I also use the Mineral Power blush and it is fantastic! Hope this stuff stays around.
Also, I read that some of you have had trouble with the stiffness of the brush. Well, this is what I do….
Rub a bit of baby oil into it, let it sit over night, wash the oil out with soap (I use shampoo) and let dry. The brush is then clean and much softer…..
53 Ranjini // Feb 6, 2008 at 11:58 am
Hi
That was one comprehensive review!!!! I have been searching for a good mineral foundation for long…I have dry skin so i stayed away from powder makeup…was bold enought to try l’oreal but the brush was AWFUL…the product was not in my exact skintone so it looked artificial…..am definitely going to tru maybelline……Thanks !!!!!!!!!

Hi Makeup Moxies! Sorry for the delay in responding to your comments. Things have been so crazy around here! But I just love you, love you, love you. Thanks for all the comments!
yen_nay: Thank you! So glad you’re enjoying the site. The design is going to be changing a little soon (but don’t worry, it will still have the pink and green ; )
I’m not sure which of the shades will work better for you because I haven’t tried the mousse nor all the shades of the mineral foundation. My best advice would be to just eyeball it, but make sure to buy your foundation from a place that will allow you to return it (like CVS, Walgreens, and most drugstores — but be safe and ask them about their return policy!).
I hope that helps. Good luck!
Paige : Glad to hear that this makeup is working out with you for the most part. You may want to try BECCA mattifying primer, it’s my fave for controlling oil ; )
Stephanie: Thanks for sharing your opinion of this makeup…and for the great tip! I’ll definitely have to try that one out : )
Ranjini: Hi! You’re so welcome : ) Please be sure to let us know how the Maybelline foundation works out for you (and I hope it works gorgeously)!

Hi – I love your blog. I bought the maybelline mineral makeup and I am happy with the results. It looks like those that have tried it are not always happy with the shades offered. I bought two different shades and I purposely bought a shade that is at least 1 to 1 1/2 shades lighter and a shade that looked close to my coloring, it is possibly a tad darker. Initially, I tried blending the two shades – hoping to come up with something close to my coloring. Too much trouble doing it that way. My second approach was to take concealer brush and use the lighter tone to cover my dark circles and blemishes. I had it set a bit then I applied the darker tone next. I was careful not to buff away the areas that I had applied the lighter powder. The last and final step was to dip the brush in the lighter powder and buff it in areas that appeared a little too dark. It evened out perfectly. It lasted all day without any fading or streaking. For the record, I have used:
Neutrogena – Terrible product IMHO – Overpriced – Too Shiny on my face. I have almost non-existent wrinkles but when I used this product. I noticed my wrinkles around my eyes.
Physicians Formula – Not too bad – But not a lot of shades offered at least in my locale.
JANE – I like it but the colors are limited in my shade range.
E.L.F. Four different shades available. I think it is expensive for the size they are offering. It smells funny but then again, it might be my imagination. I do like their mineral blushes. The plum mineral blush looks great. Good staying power. They have a great starter kit for those who want the whole shebang for $20

Hi Pinkie! Thank you! I’m so glad you’re enjoying this blog…it’s wonderful to have you here!
And thanks so much for sharing your “makeup moxie” with us ; ) That’s an interesting way to get your perfect shade of mineral foundation…definitely worth a try for anyone who doesn’t want to mess with having to mix up powders (yep, I’m constantly wiping mineral powder off my bathroom counter, lol ; ).
And I love all your mini-reviews! I agree with you on all of them…but I haven’t tried the ELF mineral makeup. I’ll have to look into it!

thanks.
58 Charmz // Feb 10, 2008 at 10:39 am
hi..I wanna try this product.I have acne-prone skin so do u think this is good for me.Im asian and I have a light to medium skin.
59 Gee // Feb 10, 2008 at 8:44 pm
I bought the loose powder today BOGO free at CVS (it’s actually the same at Walgreens too).
I overall like the product, but it was really difficult to find my shade. It was hard to see through the packaging and I found the liquid foundation testers to be no help at all. Alot of them looked similar to me.
The powder was great, but I found the brush to be a rough. I also got the liquid foundation, but it’s extremely liquidy. And I didn’t like that fact at all. Mixing it with a bit of moisturizer helped though.
I was wondering if you’re gonna review Revlon’s new ColorStay Mineral Foundation…It’s on sale at Walgreens (w/ the EasySaver coupon) for $7.99, originally $13.99. I think it has 9 grams so not a bad deal at all!
60 Sheila // Feb 11, 2008 at 6:42 am
I have been using the finishing veil powder in light, and the blush, in pink, I think, but the coverage of this powder combined with Nuetrogena’s age reverse moisturizer is all the coverage I need. My skin is so dry that most make up just looks awful on it and I wasnt wearing any for most of the winter due to the flaky cakey appearance it gave me, but this makeup has simplified my routine and it looks natural and fantastic. Im thrilled with this product, especially for the money, and I use my own brushes so this product is great.
61 Nisha // Feb 11, 2008 at 8:44 pm
You said this product does not work for oily skin, but what other mineral powders would you suggest for oily skin?
62 nadia // Feb 12, 2008 at 8:58 am
Hello all!!
This is a fantastic review. This is my first visit to your blog and I must say I really enjoy it.
First off I must say I really love maybelline products. I’m on the college-student-with-too-many-loans budget and I think it’s the best I can find at an affordable drugstore price.
I have combination skin. In the winter it tends to be normal with dry patches in the t-zone but in the summer my t-zone is oily. I also get pimples on my t-zone. They’re tiny and sparse but they’re there about 8 times out of 10 (oh and how I hate them) I recently tried Maybelline’s dream matte mousse after using Mac products for more than 2 years. Mac’s shades tend to be either too warm or too light for me. Well I got the dream matte mousse in 2.5. I was wondering if their new mineral power line has the same numbering or if i’m going to have to try some mixing like so many other mineral powders require. Also, which do you think will smooth over my dry patches and occasional pimples best, the liquid or powder form?
Thanks!!
63 TeknoGoth // Feb 12, 2008 at 1:10 pm
After reading the reviews of this foundation, and the glowing comments for the translucent powder, I purchased both today at CVS under a BOGO promotion.
I’ll make sure and check back once I’ve actually had the chance to try the products.
64 Jazmin // Feb 12, 2008 at 2:20 pm
Hi Makeup Moxies! Thanks so much for the comments!
Kirst: I don’t know whether it’s available in Canada, yet…but I hope you can get ahold of it soon : ) If there’s any Canadian/Vancouver-based Makeup Moxies in here who’ve seen Maybelline Mineral Makeup around, could you pretty please pipe up and let Kirst know?
Charmz: If you’re acne-prone skin is also very oily, I wouldn’t recommend this product. You might want to try something else like Amazing Cosmetics mineral powder. If you don’t have very oily skin, you might want to give this one a shot. I hope that helps! Please let me know if it works out for you : )
Gee: Thanks so much for sharing your opinions of this product. If you read through some of the comments above, there are great tips for softening the brush.
SarahPUFFY recommends just giving it a wash. Stephanie rubs a bit of baby oil into it, lets it sit overnight, and then washes the oil out with shampoo the next morning.
I’ve yet to try these tips, but I trust these ladies’ makeup moxie and I think it’s definitely worth a try ; )
And I did review the new Revlon ColorStay mineral foundation! You can find the review here : )
Sheila: Way to go, babe! So glad you found a product that you love. Thanks so much for sharing your opinion…I hope that it helps our fellow makeup moxie, Monica (she asked about this above) in deciding whether she’d like to try this translucent shade : )
Nisha: Out of the drugstore mineral foundations, the ones I’d recommend for oily skin are Milani and Revlon Colorstay.
Nadia: Welcome! I’m so glad you’re enjoying this blog and that you found the review helpful : )
As for the numbering system, I’ll have to double check, but I don’t think the the two lines have the same numbering system. There are a few Makeup Moxies who have commented in here about it, so if they have any insight, I’d love it if they’d share it!
Out of the two products, I think the powder formula is probably a better fit for you. I felt like it offered better coverage than the liquid foundation and, furthermore, it offers better control over your level of coverage (for days when you get a pesky breakout that needs more coverage, you can just buff on another layer of this makeup).
I really hope that helps. If you try out this foundation, please be sure to let us know how it goes!
TeknoGoth: I’m glad you were able to snag these on sale! Would love to hear what you think of them once you test them out!
65 Rose // Feb 12, 2008 at 2:43 pm
Everytime I have tried makeup before my face become itchy. I want badly to try mineral makeup and I believe Maybelline will fit nicely into my budget. However, I wonder if I will be able to find a shade for my dark complexion. I am toward the lighter end of dark but still dark.
66 Jazmin // Feb 12, 2008 at 3:48 pm
Hi Rose, sorry to hear that you’ve had problems finding makeup. Have you ever brought it up with your doctor to see if he/she can recommend something or even test you for specific allergies? I think that would help if you continue to experience irritation from makeup.
If you want to try this Maybelline Mineral Makeup, I think you’ll probably be able to find a shade that works for you because the line does offer a few darker shades and the colors are sheer enough to be fairly forgiving.
Hope that helps! If you try it out, please be sure to stop back and let us know what you think!
67 Steph // Feb 12, 2008 at 9:23 pm
The only reason I’ve used liquid foundation almost my entire life is because it covers well and hides my blemishes and for this reason, I’ve never used powder foundation. Does it cover blemishes well or should I try something else? HELP!
68 Jazmin // Feb 13, 2008 at 2:56 pm
Hi Steph, thanks so much for the question!
Powder foundation (i.e. mineral makeup) can do a great job of covering blemishes…especially if you master a few application tricks!
To cover small to moderate blemishes, many find that a regular application of mineral powder (just lightly buffing it on with a powder brush) offers enough coverage to hide skin imperfections.
If you have more to hide and need more coverage, you can try applying mineral makeup with a kabuki brush.
In addition, you can also “spot conceal” blemishes by using a concealer brush to apply a heavier layer of mineral makeup directly onto blemishes that you want to hide. You’d then follow up by lightly buffing around and over these spots in order to make your coverage appear flawless.
Some people find that the technique I just described might make the concealed areas look a little cakey, so another alternative (which I often use) is to use a traditional liquid concealer under your mineral foundation.
I would encourage you to experiment with mineral makeup and see if you like it. I hope that helps!!

Thanks for the advice! I’m buying it this weekend. I’ll keep you updated (:
70 TeknoGoth // Feb 14, 2008 at 5:55 am
Hi everyone! I bought the Classic Ivory foundation and the Transluscent powder as a BOGO at my local CVS. This foundation is apparently pretty popular in my area. I went to a few different stores that either didn’t have my shade or were completely out of it before I finally found what I was looking for.
Anyway, I have tried mineral foundation before, but it made my skin itch like crazy! I was pleasantly surprised to discover that Maybelline’s Mineral Power does not make my skin itch at all! I was also excited to try it because my skin can be rather dry, especially in the winter, and some other foundations can just highlight the dry parts. This makeup doesn’t do that. I was a little worried that applying my moisturizer under the makeup may make it look cakey, but it doesn’t. I work pretty long hours, and this makeup is able to hold up without a problem.
Applying the makeup is super-easy, and I like the brush that comes with the foundation. It’s a little small, but definitely workable.
I would like to thank everyone for their input on this product! I works wonderfully for me.
71 Diane // Feb 14, 2008 at 6:33 am
I have trouble with foundation coverage….they either look too fake or leave blothes of make-up…I tried Sheer Cover from TV…but way too pricey…..I just bought the Maybelline Mineral Makeup, and eventhough I have to use a pressed powder after I like this stuff……I love the little brush, only problem is carrying it with me…a retractable brush might work best for travelers…….
72 Jazmin // Feb 15, 2008 at 6:02 am
Steph: You’re so welcome! Have fun beauty shopping this weekend ; )
TeknoGoth: Awesome! I’m so glad that this foundation works well for you. And thank you so much for sharing your opinion of this makeup, too ; )
Ok, maybe I’m just in a happy post-Valentine daze, but can I just repeat that I love you Makeup Moxies? The absolute best reviews on this site are the ones where all of you chime in and share your opinions ; ) So I’m joining in with TeknoGoth and thanking everyone else in here, too!
Ok, back to the makeup! Diane, I’m so glad you found something you like (both makeup-wise and budget-wise ; )
I actually think the little brush that comes with Maybelline Mineral Power might be even more travel friendly than a retractable brush just because it’s pretty small. What do you think of just slipping it into a plastic baggy when you travel?
73 CraftyRee // Feb 17, 2008 at 2:51 am
I have this make up, my daughter bought it for me for Christmas. I have dry skin and I would not have thought a powder make up would be a good choice for me, but now that I have tried this make up I love it. It gives me great results and if you have any problem areas you can just cover that area a little more and you get great results. One step I heard on TV that we all need to pay closer attention (when using mineral make ups) to is to be sure to exfoliate. I will definetly buy this product again and would encourage anyone that has been wanting to try the mineral make ups to try Maybelline =)

75 Tawny // Feb 17, 2008 at 8:42 pm
Hello,
I was wondering after reading your review, do you prefer mineral makeup or pressed powder instead?
76 Jazmin // Feb 17, 2008 at 9:30 pm
Hi Tawny, thanks for the question!
I don’t really have a strong preference, either way. The only mineral makeup that I’ve tried in both its pressed and loose formulas is Milani and I can’t say that I’ve really noticed a difference in performance between the two.
The compact versions are obviously much neater and they take up less space in your makeup bag.
On the other hand, the compact formulas often contain more ingredients (which are what help keep the foundation in a solid form). If you’re someone who wants as few ingredients as possible in your makeup or you find that some of the ingredients in the compact version are irritating to your skin, you’d obviously want to stick with the loose version.
But my bottomline is that, whether loose or pressed, I just want a foundation that works well :)
77 PharmD // Feb 19, 2008 at 10:30 am
I tried the powder foundation for the first time yesterday, and I LOVE the coverage. From 5 or more feet away, it looks great. Any closer, and you can see how the application brush makes the skin flake all over my face. I have had this problem with every type of makeup I’ve ever used. My skin is dry, especially in winter, and any kind of applicator makes me flaky. I exfoliate regularly and use a lightweight Olay moisturizer with SPF 15 daily. Any suggestions for what else I can do? I really do like the coverage of this makeup and want to make it work for me.
78 Becca // Feb 19, 2008 at 11:16 am
Do you use the mineral Transluscent powder over the mineral foundation? Does anyone use both together? I am trying the mineral concealer as well. Of course I found this website and checked all of your reviews for the mineral drugstore makeup – I have been wanting to try for awhile now and between this and the BOGO at CVS I figured now is the time. Thanks for your help and time in trying all of these products.
79 Jazmin // Feb 20, 2008 at 8:38 am
Hi PharmD,
Thanks for the question! The problem with your skin getting flaky probably isn’t caused by makeup applicators.
It could be caused by a number of things…your dry skin may simply need a richer moisturizer, you may be exfoliating too often (once a week is all it takes), ingredients in your skin care products may be causing the flaking, or you might have a skin condition that’s causing it.
My best advice is to bring it up with your dermatologist. Only he or she can tell you for sure what’s going on and recommend the right course of treatment to get your skin to behave better ; )
Hi Becca, you’re welcome! I haven’t tried the translucent powder, yet, so our fellow makeup moxies in here who have tried both will be better able to tell you.
In general, however, I’ve been under the impression that the Translucent powder is more of a “finishing” powder that can be used to set the foundation. So the answer to your question would be, yes, you can wear them together.
The makeup moxies on here (like saraPUFFY), use the translucent powder on its own for setting their makeup and adding just a little coverage.
Thanks for bringing this up (you’ve reminded me that I need to go pick up a jar of the translucent powder and try it out ; )

Thanks again for your help :) I just checked out your beauty secrets and CAN’T WAIT to try out your sugar lip scrub!!!! I remember when Avon used to have that and I haven’t been able to find anything like that in years. I am so excited that it requires everything that I already own!!! Thanks again! I am adding this to my favorites!!! By the way, I did try the concealer – it was very light in that it didn’t feel like I had anything on my skin. I didn’t try it with the mineral powder over top – but with your response – I am going to try the concealer, the powder foundation, and then the trans. finishing mineral powder. Please someone help me with this answer – I was reading a caring consumer site from Peta and they listed Maybelline under Loreal that does test on animals. I just fell in love with their mineral makeup and also their mascara, but if this is true, then I can no longer support their makeup/company! I have read other sites that say that maybelline doesn’t test on animals, but I just don’t know which one to believe. Anyone know either way what the correct answer is?
90 Jazmin // Feb 25, 2008 at 10:42 am
Hey Becca, I’m glad to hear that you love these products, but I’m sorry that I don’t have a clear answer for you on whether Maybelline does animal testing. joneseygirl9 and I discussed this a little in the above comments.
91 Jazmin // Feb 25, 2008 at 10:53 am
Hi Alison,
Since you have very oily skin, you might want to try Milani Mineral Makeup, which out of the drugstore mineral makeup brands also has some of the best options for darker skin tones.
I have pretty oily skin and I’ve found that I just get too shiny too fast when I wear Maybelline mineral makeup.
It’s hard for me to guess which shade would be best for your skin tone, but what I’d recommend you do is to choose the shade that looks like it might match your skin tone…and be sure to buy it from a place that will allow you to return or exchange it, if it’s the wrong color.
I hope that helps somewhat! Good luck!

As a 65 year old woman, is mineral makeup for me? Should I buy either the Maybelline Mineral Power Natural Perfecting Foundation or the Mineral Power Healthy Finish Veil ? Or do you use them together?
97 Jazmin // Feb 28, 2008 at 12:59 pm
Hi there, Bettty! Thanks for the questions!
And, yes, you can certainly wear mineral makeup! If you have aging skin concerns, the general rules of thumb when it comes to choosing a mineral makeup is to avoid formulas that are going to be too heavy, too “sparkly”, or too drying (these things all tend to emphasize lines).
Having said that, I think Maybelline Mineral Power is a good option for you to try out. And, yes, the products are designed to be used together (though you don’t necessarily have to use both).
Definitely start with the foundation. This is what will even out your skin tone and help cover up imperfections.
Then, if you’d like, you can follow up by dusting on the Healthy Finish Veil. I’m still testing this product, so I can’t fully vouch for how effective it is.
However, the purpose of the Finish Veil is to help “set” your makeup, ward off shine, and further perfect the appearance of your makeup.
Some people find that they don’t need it (or don’t want to have to perform an extra step) and others find that they do. I’d encourage you to experiment wearing the foundation with and without the finishing powder and see which look you prefer.
I hope that helps! Please be sure to let me know if you have any other questions or, if you end up trying this foundation, please try to stop by again and let me know how you like it!

Hey there
Thanks a ton for the makeup review..it’s really nice to know more about a product before buying it.
I bought the mineral powder and finishing veil yesterday at CVS…the biggest problem I had was trying to figure out the right shade…The packaging makes it incredibly hard to see the true color. Fortunately CVS had the liquid foundation test shades out…so I tried those on the back of my hand to determine the best shade for me..they may not be the exactly the same as the powder version but are close enough.
Thanks once again for all the review!!

i just want to know after you apply minerals makeup do you have to use a finishing powder too?
102 kirst // Mar 2, 2008 at 9:59 pm
hi, i posted earlier about not being able to find this in vancouver, but now i’ve found it, i guess we’re a little behind. Anyways, i really do love this make up, and i am extremely picky and hard to impress. i used to use purestay, and they are sort of similar in a few ways, they both depend a lot on how they mix with the oils in your skin. So, I am just over the moon about this product, i love it! I wonder how good it actually is for my skin, mineral yeah, but its not that high end………. but make up is so easy now, and it doesnt take to much powder, i just use concealer, wait a minute for it to dry and then use the powder for a bit more coverage, but mostly just to give a polished look. But overall, yeah, thumbs up.

Hi Ziya, you’re so welcome! I’m glad that you found the review helpful…and that you were able to find a shade that worked for you.
Thanks for sharing the great tip about using the liquid foundation samples to help find the right shade of powder foundation.
I wish they would just include testers of the powder foundation as well…it would make things so much easier!
Hi Liz! lol, you can always ask all the questions you want — I love ‘em! Okay, let’s see:
1. What’s your skin type? (oily/combo/normal/dry?) If you do not have very oily skin, I think you’ll like the Maybelline mineral powder foundation. If you have very oily skin, you may want to try Milani mineral foundation or Revlon Colorstay mineral foundation because they both do a better job of controlling oil and they have a wider range of shades.
2. Nope, haven’t tried the NYC mineral makeup, yet. Thanks for mentioning it. I’ll have to pick some up and test it out ; )
3. No, you don’t necessarily have to use a finishing powder. If you like the way the foundation looks by itself and you don’t have any problems with it wearing off, you can pass on the finishing powder.
On the other hand, a good finishing powder can help your foundation last longer…and, if you have oily skin/shiny areas, finishing powder can help nix shine and absorb oil.
Hope that helps! Be sure to let me know if you have any other questions ; )
104 Jazmin // Mar 4, 2008 at 11:31 am
Hi Kirst!
Yay! I’m so glad that you were able to get ahold of this stuff…and that you love it!
In terms of how “good” it is for you, there’s nothing on the ingredient list that’s harmful…nor is there anything particularly beneficial, either. I say, if it’s safe and it works, go for it! ; )
105 JODEE // Mar 5, 2008 at 6:12 pm
I HAVE PURCHASED MAYBELLINE MINERAL MAKEUP AT WALGREENS A FEW WEEKS AGO. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT, BUT FOR THOSE OF YOU TRYING TO PICK A SHADE…ITS TRICKY
BECAUSE THE PACKAGING COLORS ARE MUCH DARKER
WHEN YOU OPEN THEM. I AM
MEDIUM SKINTONE…AND I AM
WEARING THE DARKEST SHADE OF LIGHT. I HAVE TO
SAY THE COVERAGE IS WONDERFUL..I AM VERY PICKY WITH FOUNDATION…
I AM NOW GOING TO PURCHASE THE VEIL THIS WEEKEND, I LIKE A VERY FINISHED LOOK. I AM IN MY
LATE 40′S AND I BOUGHT IT FOR MY 19 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER WHO ALSO LOVES
IT! GREAT PRODUCT FOR THE
MONEY!!!!! I WAS THINKING OF PURCHASING BE…..BUT I
THINK I WILL PASS FOR NOW!
ENJOY!

I live in Melbourne, Australia and I have been in every store looking for Mabyelline mineral makeup. Does anyone know if it has been released in Australia, and if so where I can get it.
Thanks

Hi Merrill! I wish I could be of better help to you, but unfortunately I don’t know much about the foreign distribution of most cosmetic brands.
I hope that any fellow Makeup Moxies here who have an info on the availability of Maybelline mineral makeup in Australia will chime in!
Good luck ; )

dear Merrill i just checked their website and it was not even in the Canada section even thu it takes a while for them to put it on the website but i guess they w8 a little longer to distribute it in other countries…u just have to w8 but it is worth waiting for :)

Hi! My sister and I both tried the Maybelline Mineral Power Powder Foundation and we both experienced a sensation of pin pricks and redness to our face. We’re not sure if it was the product itself or the brush.
Also, I paid over $14.00 for this product at CVS!
111 Jazmin // Mar 16, 2008 at 11:20 pm
Hi Maria, you and your sister should definitely stop using any product that makes your skin look or feel irritated.
And while $14 definitely seems overpriced (I got mine for $9 from Walgreens), the nice thing about CVS is that you should be able to get your money back.
112 Maria Teresa // Mar 17, 2008 at 1:35 pm
Oops! I said I paid $14 but I forgot that I bought the powder foundation AND concealer. The powder was only $9.99. Thanks for your feedback and Blog!

I was watching the Bare Escentuals info-mercial yesterday and I was very impressed with the product, but I noticed all the models were in their 20′s or early 30′s. I came to the conclusion that this product would probably make me look much older than my 43 years since I admit I do have laughlines, slight crows feet and some dryness.
I’m happy to read the reviews that the Maybelline product is non-drying and will not cake up. I have sensitive, fair, freckled skin but I figure for $9 a pop I’ll give it a try
115 Mary // Mar 21, 2008 at 10:29 am
I picked this up today in the lightest shade I could find Nude Light 4. It was way too dark for my skin tone. The Maybelline website recommends this shade for fair skin along with the ivory shades. I lightly applied the foundation but because it was so dark it made me look too made up and it just accentuated my facial lines. I’m not sure if the right shade could persuade me to recommend this product because it felt too heavy on my skin.
I also bought the mineral veil and the blush. I will continue to use these because I like the lightness of the products.

Hi! I was wondering if the Maybelline Mineral Loose Powder Foundation contained bismuth oxychloride?
117 Vicki // Mar 21, 2008 at 8:05 pm
I tried the pressed powder, and while I do like it, I was really bothered to see that it has aluminum in it! does the loose powder have that as well?
118 Blondcampr // Mar 26, 2008 at 12:09 pm
Good Morning,
I am 44 and have suffered from 2nd stage rosecea for a number of years now. I was using Clinique, because it didn’t upset my allergies or my skin, but by the end of the bottle, it was bothering my face making it sore, itchy or redder, I thought it was due to the rubbing. So I started looking for a Mineral Powder after seeing an infomercial on Bare Minerals. Budget minded… I tried Maybelelline Mineral Power CreamyNatural Light #5. I spent hours/days reading the ingredients and comparing products at our local stores. I needed something gentle and protective, without drying or damaging my skin any further. I am very happy with Maybelline Mineral Power. I have used Clinique and then changed due tot he itchyness back to Cover Girls Creme to Powder, but it even hurt my skin, so I decided to start with one piece of mineral base products, the foundation, and go from there. I love the foundation. I can wear it alone, or with powder blush or with a top loose powder.
I have played with application tricks to cover my splotches, and am very happy with the product. Because of the tenderness of my skin, I am leary of any creams or liquids again, but if need be, I will try a powder concealer, and when my clinique finishing powder is gone, I will buy Maybellines finishing. As for the brush,it did irritate my skin, and I don’t mix my product brushes, so I used a big soft brush I bought at the Dollar Tree, for a buck, no big loss if it doesn’t work. It’s soft, fluffy and works beautifully. It blends nicely and doesn’t irritate myskin. I’ll try washing the brush that came with the Maybelline, I like it’s compactness.
Thanks so much for all your information in the blog. I will bookmark it and keep in touch, It is so awesome to find someone who actually cares and wants to share their knowledge.
Have a blessed day.

120 Bronwen // Mar 27, 2008 at 2:36 pm
I was disappointed that Maybelline doesn’t sell all the same shades of powder foundation as it does in the liquid foundation. I need Light 1 in the powder, but the lowest number sold in the powder is Light 2.
121 Michelle // Mar 27, 2008 at 9:08 pm
so im writting back to asking bout mineral make up i finally got it as soon i was re searchin peoples comments on it… yeah the shade is hard im tan & i got the darkest of light creamy natural 5 & i wore it to work my manager goes to me ” ure skin looks so clear ” it made me so happy someone noticed a difference.

123 Dawn // Mar 28, 2008 at 9:52 pm
I’m thinking of buying this after all the good reviews. I was just wondering though, for application…do you need to use a primer before putting this on?
124 Mary // Apr 1, 2008 at 7:49 am
I tried the liquid concealer and I really like it. I have dry skin under my eyes and this product works very well for my skin type. It blends easily on my skin type and gives the right amount of coverage. I’m using the 2nd lightest shade and it’s a perfect match for my skin – it is light but has a warm tone.
I’m now using the following maybelline mineral products: concealer, mineral veil and blusher. I just add a little lipstick and I find that’s all I need to pull off a polished daytime look. Quick & easy.

Hello again, I do enjoy the Maybelline, but my email is being bombarded with RawMinerals information. Looks ok, any information or personal experiences anyone wants to share?? And, should I try another shade to help cover my redness better? I am very busy at work and I am on the run or fast walk constantly, last night I noticed that my redness is coming through and I am looking rather flushed as the evening goes on. ANY suggestions?? THanks

126 Lizzy // Apr 2, 2008 at 11:10 am
Hey Jazmin!
Just bought the Maybelline Mineral Powder but I have yet to try it out.
I was just wondering, how long does the coverage last and do I need to wear anything underneath it or does the powder provide enough coverage?
The reason i’m asking is that I have a really stressful job and most days I just get back home and fall asleep straight away with my makeup on. That’s why i’m trying mineral makeup because I heard it’s gentle enough to wear to sleep without messing up your skin. Usually I wear a tinted moisturiser and finish with pressed powder since I don’t have many blemishes but i’m thinking that if i wear tinted moisturiser underneath this powder then it pretty much defeats the purpose of letting your skin ‘breathe’.
Basically i’m just wondering if this makeup provides the good, even and long lasting coverage that a tinted moisturiser provides when you use it with pressed powder.
In an ideal world I just want to be able to sweep on a moisturiser, dust on some mineral makeup and go the whole day knowing that I have ample coverage AND I can sleep in it without waking up with clogged pores!

Ok, today while looking for a concealer, I saw that Target has a BAre Minerals Starter kit for 49.00, then Physicians Formula also has a kit for 19.95. Trying to read up on the benefits and what to avoid and starting to get a little confused by all the stuff I can’t pernounce, let alone know what it is. Any clear cut what to avoid suggestions?? I think I’m supposed to avoid talc, which I have been, but what minerals that are listed in so many of the ingredients are good for you and what one’s are not?? Anyone else know anything about Physicians Formula?? Read the history, sounds good, any one have personal experiences to share??
Thanks for all the help.
128 Jazmin // Apr 2, 2008 at 6:50 pm
Hi Makeup Moxies! Sorry for the delay in getting back to you, but thanks so much for all your comments!
Mary: Thanks so much for sharing your experiences with these products.
I think it can definitely be difficult to judge a product when it’s the wrong color, but if you find that it feels uncomfortable enough that you don’t want to wear it, you might want to try something like Almay Pure Blends mineral foundation.
Another thing that could be causing this foundation to feel heavy is the brush that you’re using. I assume you’re using the brush that came with the Maybelline foundation (please correct me if I’m wrong) and it’s easy to over-apply the foundation with it. You might want to try getting yourself a good mineral makeup brush. For a cheaper option, CVS drugstores sell some Essence of Beauty brushes that are good for mineral makeup application.
I hope that helps! Please let me know what you end up deciding on and if you have any questions ; )
Emma: Yes, this product contains Bismuth Oxychloride…though it’s a smaller amount than what’s present in other mineral foundation that contain the ingredients (it’s one of the last ingredients listed).
Vicki: The loose powder foundation does not contain “aluminum” type ingredients. What’s the specific name of the ingredient that you’re concerned about?
Blondcampr: You’re so welcome! And thank you for bookmarking my blog and keeping in touch. I love all your comments and questions!
Michelle: Yay! I’m so glad that you found the right shade and that you’re loving this foundation!
Bronwen: Several of our fellow makeup moxies here feel the same way about this collection’s shade range. Keep in mind, however, that this mineral makeup is more sheer than Maybelline’s liquid and cream foundations, so it will match a wider range of skin tones. If you try out the powder in Light 2, I’d really love to hear how it works for you.
abi: Thanks for sharing your Maybelline love!
Dawn: Using a primer before applying this foundation is entirely up to you (and your skin type). If you have oily skin (like me), your face will probably get pretty shiny pretty quickly when wearing this foundation. An oil-absorbing primer helps to control oil and extend the wear of the foundation.
If you have normal to dry skin, you won’t need a primer with it. Hope that helps!
Mary: Thanks so much for sharing your experience with the concealer. I’ve only tried it once or twice and I agree that it’s pretty good…though I found it a little on the dry side (?).
129 Jazmin // Apr 2, 2008 at 6:57 pm
Christy: Hi again! I haven’t tried Raw Minerals and have heard very little about it. Has anyone else here tried it?
As for the redness, you can try a moisturizer that helps calm redness. Or you could also try wearing a green-tinted primer (like this one from Smashbox) that helps counteract the redness.
Also, in terms of clear-cut ingredients to avoid in mineral makeup…there really aren’t any.
Having said that, there are ingredients that some prefer to avoid because they believe that they’re not good for you. These include Talc, Bismuth Oxychloride, and the various types of parabens.
If they’re scientifically proven to cause a low (or no) risk of irritation (and all the ingredients that I listed above fall into these categories)…or there is a lack of scientific evidence to prove that they’re actually dangerous, I wouldn’t worry about them.
But pretty much any ingredient (except probably for water) could potentially cause irritation for different people and it’s really only a dermatologist who can reliably pinpoint what exact ingredient is causing irritation for an individual.
I’m working on an article that will explain all of this more fully…but I hope that’s helpful (at least for now ; )
I did a review on Physician’s Formula mineral makeup awhile back, you can check it out here ; )
130 Jazmin // Apr 2, 2008 at 7:35 pm
Hi Lizzy!
“I just want to be able to sweep on a moisturiser, dust on some mineral makeup and go the whole day knowing that I have ample coverage AND I can sleep in it without waking up with clogged pores!”…yep, that would be awesome, wouldn’t it?
But, unfortunately, that is an ideal world and not the real world. There are some clever marketing myths here that we need to clear up
No matter what a beauty company says (and Bare Escentuals is famous for this), there isn’t any foundation out there that’s “pure enough to sleep in.” Makeup is makeup and, at the end of the day, you’re going to have to clean the stuff off if you really want to take care of your skin and avoid clogged pores.
Furthermore, most mineral powders don’t really let your skin “breathe” any more than regular powders do.
Since you mentioned that you normally only wear tinted moisturizer and pressed powder, I think you’d be happy with the level of coverage that this foundation provides (it’s buildable and can produce up to medium coverage).
If you have oily skin, however, you might not like this foundation too much because it doesn’t do a great job of absorbing oil.
My best advice is that if your tinted moisturizer/pressed powder combo is working for you, stick with it! If you’d like to try a mineral foundation, you should of course go for it, but just know that it won’t get you out of washing your face at night (yeah, I know it’s a pain ; )
Get yourself a pack of face wipes (I like Boots Quick Fix Cleansing Wipes) or you can even try fragrance-free baby wipes. Keep them on your bedside table, if you have to, and just give your face a quick cleanse before your crash ; )
Hope that helps!

Ah, I knew it was too good to be true! I’ll buy some wipes and see how that goes.

Thanks for your blog – it’s been really helpful!
I’ve been using the Maybelline liquid mineral foundation with the finishing veil and I’ve been satisfied with it. It just seems to leave my face a little pink. I was wondering if the powder mineral foundation would give better coverage for my skin (I’m pretty fair-complected with some redness.) After reading all the positive feedback, I definitely think it’s worth a try!
Thanks again! :)

Thank you so much for the information. I love reading your blog and seeing what works for everyone. I’m on my way to the links you listed to find out what else I can do and learn. Thanks again so much.
I am very happy with Maybelline, but if I can find something that lasts all day, keeps the redness at bay, and doesn’t irritate myskin….
I know, in the perfect world LOL. However, in the meantime, I am carefully trying different application techniques and products. Luckily, only my nose and chin area have oily tendancies, so I have not been limited too much by that. Thanks again for the info., off I go. Have a great day.
135 Christy // Apr 7, 2008 at 2:28 pm
Thanks again, I will probably avoid Physicians Formula. I don’t like cakey or thick, that’s one of the reasons I like Maybelline so well, it is light and soft to the touch. My husband likes it when my skin is soft. :)
Green sticks, I have used in the past, recommended by my dermatologist, were pasty and pulled when being applied. Made my face sore to apply and seemed like a fight with the stupid stick just to hide the red spots, that got more irritated with the fight. Nasty cirlce of experiences, so I gave up on it, actually, it was a Physicians Formula green stick.
I’ve tried a concealor recently that is dabbed on and patted, it covers the red ok, but doesn’t help with the circles under my eyes. However, after applying it, the maybelline seems to cake where it is, so I don’t like it. I’d rather layer the Maybelline.
Still looking for a way to make coverage last more than a few hours.
Just starting to notice the preverbial wrinkles in the eye corner, and battling with dark circles. Any ideas??
I’m going to research Bare Minerals and Raw Minerals both before I purchase anything else.
I know you are busy, and really appreciate all your help and comments. Thanks again.

Hi Amber! You’re so welcome ; ) I’m so glad to hear that you’ve been finding this blog helpful!
And, yes, I do think the powder foundation will give you better coverage. And, if you find that you need even more coverage beyond that, you can always try doubling up and wearing the powder foundation over the liquid foundation. Hope that helps! If you try out the powder foundation, please be sure to let me know how it goes!
137 Jazmin // Apr 7, 2008 at 6:31 pm
Hi there, Christy! Awww, I know…we all have our “holy grail” products that we’re looking for, but until we can find them, I guess we just have to make do with what we’ve got!
You said that you wanted something that “lasts all day, keeps the redness at bay, and doesn’t irritate [your] skin.”
I think a really good option for you would be to try out a color-correcting primer like Boots No7 Colour Calming Make-Up Base or Smashbox Color Correct Primer (the green one). There’s also one made by Bodyography that’s supposed to be really good.
As a primer, a product like this will help your makeup stay in place longer. The green tint in these primers is also more sheer than in one of those “green sticks”, so it should help to neutralize that redness without looking pasty.
The only thing is that we don’t know if they’ll irritate your sensitive skin, but I think a color-correcting primer is definitely worth a try, if you’re up to it ; )
As for those lines around your eyes and the dark circles, you might want to try an illuminating concealer around your eye area. One of my current faves is Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Double Face Perfector. There’s a concealer on one end for fuller coverage and a highlighter on the other end that gives lighter coverage, but does a great job of hiding dark circles.
Plus, the moisturizing formula also helps to minimize fine lines ; )
138 Dana Tan // Apr 8, 2008 at 12:18 pm
I like this powder actually, creamy natural is a perfect color of my skin and the brush is fantastic but my face does get really oily. So if this isn’t good for oily skin then what is????
Any suggestions? I work at walgreens so I try most of the makeup I’m just not sure what has worked really well for me yet.
139 Jazmin // Apr 8, 2008 at 4:09 pm
Hey Dana, thanks for the question!
For oily skin, I think Revlon Colorstay, Milani, Almay Pure Blends, and L’Oreal Bare Naturale all outperformed Maybelline Mineral Power…but they all have their drawbacks, too. You can find my rankings and links to the reviews here ; )

Hey everybody! I found this blog thanks to Maybelline Mineral Makeup (I was checking out user opinions before buying) and I really enjoyed reading everyone’s opinions and experiences with this product. I bought the powder foundation in Creamy Natural/Light 5 yesterday, and I have to say I love it. I’ve tried Physicians’ Formula and Almay mineral foundations before and the Maybelline definitely beats them in terms of coverage and staying power.
I’m currently living in Trinidad in the Caribbean, and I have to deal with humidity, high temperatures and bright sunlight on a daily basis, so I definitely can’t use a foundation that’s the wrong color or that melts quickly! I have light olive skin with a sunburnt forehead (I forget the sunscreen at times) and an oily t-zone, plus I sometimes have dark circles thanks to my allergies, and this foundation works despite those issues! It evened out my complexion and didn’t cake in the under-eye concealer I needed today. I read that some people were having problems with oily sheen, but I blotted my skin with a tissue after moisturizing and had no problems that couldn’t be fixed with a rice-paper sheet around midday. Overall, I love this product, especially at this great price! I paid $78TT (around $12US), which is way better than the $120TT I paid for the inferior Physicians’ Formula.
Earlier, somebody asked if this makeup was available in Australia, and considering that it’s gotten to the Caribbean already, here’s to hoping it’s already moved south. I’m thrilled to have found a mineral makeup that withstands the muggy conditions here, but I hope it won’t dry out my skin back in the US because I’d hate to have to give up my new-found love!

And I should really be thanking you and all the other makeup moxies who come on here and ask questions and share their opinions. I can babble on this blog all day, but it’s really our Makeup Moxie community that makes this site special :)
You’ve inspired me to write more “Makeup Essentials” type posts. As a hardcore makeup junkie (lol) and a beauty editor who comes across lots of new (and sometimes weird) products, I think I tend to focus more on new products and I sometimes forget how important it is to have a basic knowledge of the “tried and true” products that are easy to get ahold of and easy to use.
In the meantime, keep asking all the questions you want. I love hearing from you!

OOPS, anyhow, looking for a sunless tanner so when the sun does actually hit us here in the Pacific Northwest… I don’t blind everyone with my white skin before I get a chance to get a little color this summer. I am so excited to find this website!! I have faithfully worn Bare Escenuals for over 7 years. Now that I have one daughter in college and another on her way, I needed to find something less expensive, but with the same coverage and feel of BE.
I purchased this Powder in the Light # 2 which is called classic ivory. I have a ruddy complextion, so I really didn’t know what color to get. I left one side of my face with the BE on and used this one the other side. I can not believe how much I LOVE it!! I didn’t have to use as much to cover and it feels like I have nothing on my face. I already have great brushes from BE, but the cute little one it comes with is not bad at all.
I hope this helps anyone wanting to try this product.
Thanks again for such a GREAT website.
Julie

Hi Kathie,
Thanks so much for the question! However, since I haven’t tested all the shades, I unfortunately may not be of too much help to you. You may want to check out the shade finder on Maybelline’s website. But, other than that, just be sure that you buy this from a drugstore that will allow you to return or exchange it if it’s the wrong shade. I hope that helps somewhat!
Hi Julie! I’m so excited that you found this website, too! Thanks for sharing your experience with this product. I’m so glad that you found something that you love (and that saves you some money)! ; )

Is this makeup good for covering blemishes caused by acne scars? I am african american with medium complexion and was wondering if the mineral makeup could help me.
153 Jazmin // Apr 15, 2008 at 5:45 pm
Hi Stephanie,
Thanks for your question! This foundation can achieve up to medium coverage and whether or not it will be enough coverage for you depends on the severity of the acne scars.
If you have the type of scars that are older and somewhat faded, then this foundation may offer enough coverage for you. If your scars are more noticeable, then you may need something with more coverage. Out of the drugstore brands, Revlon Colorstay and Loreal Bare Naturale both offer a little more coverage. Out of the prestige brands, Jane Iredale offers excellent coverage.
Another option you could try is to use a concealer on any spots that you want to hide and then follow up by layering this foundation over it.
I hope that helps!

After hearing all the hype about mineral makeup, I decided to try it out. I chose Maybelline because it was fairly priced, and the container looked easy to deal with. However, I came across the same issue as the owner of this blog had. I loved the way my skin looked after applying the powder (I use my own powder brush though. The one it comes with is very rough and dense). It made my skin look velvety and very matte and the coverage is great. But after a few hours I would touch my face and it would feel oily. I carry around a CoverFX compact with me for touch ups. That was a little disappointing. I will continue to use this in the mornings, but carry my other powder with me. Once the jar is empty I will probably try a different brand, or just go back to my regular Cover Girl powder, which I still love. -Katia :)

I have been wearing the BearMinerals makeup in Medium Beige and would like to know the shade comparable to it in the Maybelline Minerals Foundation
156 Janna // Apr 17, 2008 at 11:59 pm
I just bought the liquid foundation, veil powder and concealer. and was wondering why you say to put concealer on top of foundation? Ive never heard that before and have always done it the other way. I havent used this product yet but I will let you know what I think. I have sensitive skin, some makeup dries me out and some breaks me out. And being pregnant Ive gotten a little case of eczema. I was hoping the fragrance free talc free would do really good on my skin.
157 Jazmin // Apr 18, 2008 at 7:21 am
Katia: Thanks for sharing your opinion of this product! And, just out of curiosity, which Cover Girl powder is it that you love? : )
158 Jazmin // Apr 18, 2008 at 7:24 am
Marti: I’m not quite sure which shade would be the most similar to Bareminerals in Medium Beige. Maybe Light 5 or Medium 1 or 2? But as I always say, pick the one that looks the best to you, but buy it from a place that will allow you to exchange it ; ) Good luck!
159 Jazmin // Apr 18, 2008 at 7:27 am
Janna: I’m sorry to hear that you’re having some skin problems, but a big congrats on the baby!
With powder foundations (i.e. mineral makeup), I still wear my concealer beneath my foundation.
However, with liquid foundation, I always wear my concealer on top. The reason for this is because if you apply your concealer before your liquid foundation, it’s likely that you’re going to end up wiping off or upsetting your concealer if you try to apply foundation over it. Hope that made sense!
And please be sure to stop by again once you try the liquid foundation, I’d love to hear what you think of it ; )
160 Janna // Apr 19, 2008 at 3:32 am
Well I tried out the liquid foundation, minerial veil and the concealer this evening. And for one, it didnt leave my skin dry, or broke out. Which the last two kinds I have tried in the past have. My man even commented on how smooth my skin looked and it wasnt grainy like how other makeups leave that cakey feeling. I used the lightest in all three, as I am fair skinned, with freckles and dark hair. Well even tho it was light it covered up the red blotches I get from my highly sensitive skin. This was also without using lotion before hand. I read somewhere that you recommended doing so to help with smoothness. Well I went out today and bought olay complete for sensitive skin as per your suggestion to another and will try that next time! Anyway, I really liked the makeup, it didnt cake up, didnt leave red bumps and covered up my flaws. It lasted all day for me and washes off easily. Much better then what Im used to. Im very happy.
161 Jazmin // Apr 21, 2008 at 12:02 pm
Yay! Janna, I’m so glad that this makeup worked for you and that you’re happy with it!
lol, I just finished writing a response to another comment where I was laughing about how guys (who are usually totally clueless about makeup) are actually pretty good at noticing when makeup looks pretty and natural (otherwise they either don’t notice at all or they just don’t say anything, lol). So kudos to your man!
162 karenski // Apr 21, 2008 at 3:17 pm
I just found this website and have enjoyed reading all your comments. I’m a mid “ahem” forty something myself and have been thinking of delving into the world of mineral makeup. The cost of BE seemed, well, a bit over my comfort zone in terms of budget. So nice to hear so many gals finding refuge with good ol’ Maybelline! I glanced at a few of their products at the store recently, but in all honesty was overwhelmed by the display rack. Thanks to all for your words of wisdom. Maybe I’ll head back to the store and give these a try! (Hubby will be happy with my bargain shopping! :-) )
Best,
Karen

Hi!!!
I just got a free sample of this product in the mail …. by chance it was the right shade so I tried it on and …. I think I love it!!!
I have been using Clinique Soft Finish liquid (very light coverage) foundation for almost 10 years now but I have to say that I feel I like this foundation too, I usually like to stick with what I like and buying this foundation would be a big chance :) I like the natural look.
My only concern are the ingredients … on the sample I don’t see them, do you know if it has anything “bad” in them? I was reading someone else was concerned about it ….
My Clinique doesn’t have SPF either so that wouldn’t really change … but these minerals thing make me a little worried? Maybe I am wrong … opinions? :)
Thanks!!
164 Jazmin // Apr 22, 2008 at 7:08 am
Hi Karen! Welcome! I’m glad you’re enjoying reading all the comments ; )
And, yes, the good ol’ girls of cosmetics (Maybelline, Covergirl, Revlon) have stepped up their games…which is obviously great when you want a good deal on makeup (and to keep the hubby happy ; )
If you end up trying this foundation, be sure to let us know how it goes!
165 Jazmin // Apr 22, 2008 at 7:17 am
Hi Mon!!
The ingredients that have raised concerns for some people are Bismuth Oxychloride (which can cause breakouts or irritation for some people), and, to a lesser extent, Mica, Zinc Oxide, and Titanium Dioxide. The scientific research shows that there’s a low risk of irritation for all of these ingredients (particularly the last three). However, some people still prefer to avoid them.
This Maybelline mineral powder does contain zinc oxide as well as very small amounts of Mica, Titanium Dioxide, and Bismuth Oxychloride (they’re the last ingredients listed on the package).
And there’s some degree of sun protection in this foundation, but Maybelline doesn’t mention the actual SPF on the packaging.
Hope that helps!
166 Mon // Apr 22, 2008 at 8:21 am
Hi!! Thanks for your reply!!
I do not have a particularly sensitive skin I tried it on only yesterday, left it on for at least 4 hours and my skin reaction seemed to be fine, I belive I should try it at least for a week though.
Clinique is known for being very delicate and good for sensitive skins, but I bought it in the first place only because it was very light (I don’t like the total cover effect).
Maybe people can grow sensitivity to this product after using it every day for months/years? Is that what it is?
Thanks!!
167 Jazmin // Apr 22, 2008 at 4:34 pm
Hi! You’re welcome, Mon!
Well I hope that this foundation continues to work out for you!
Since your skin can change as you age, it’s certainly possible that you could develop sensitivity to a product that you may not have had problems using when you were younger.
Plus, there are other (non makeup) factors that can cause skin to become more sensitive — like the weather, allergens, medication, or even your diet!
168 BethT // Apr 23, 2008 at 8:59 am
Hi there! I just bought this product and found your review. I’ve used it for a couple of days and my skin feels a little rougher and drier as a result – is this a sign it’s not for me? I’ve honestly never used mineral products before….my skin type is a little dry/sensitive. It COULD just be something environmental that’s making me drier, but do you have any insight? Is this potentially bad for sensitives like me?
169 Jazmin // Apr 23, 2008 at 10:02 am
Hi Beth! Yeah, I think you should stop using it…there certainly could be something in there that’s causing sensitivity.
Have you been using any other new products (including a new hair product, soap, etc)? As I’m sure you already know, skin (especially sensitive skin) can be finicky and there are a lot of factors that can contribute to skin reactions.
If I were you, I’d (1) stop using this foundation and any other new products that you may be using (2) wait for your skin to go back to normal, (3) If you’re skin does not go back to normal after about a week, you may want to make an appointment with your dermatologist. (4) If your skin does go back to normal, start adding each new product back into your regimen, one at a time, and give each of them about a week to see if you can pinpoint which one is causing your skin to feel rough/dry.
Hope that helps!
170 BethT // Apr 23, 2008 at 11:54 am
That helps a lot! This is the only new thing I’m using :( Bummer. I wanted to love it!
171 Jazmin // Apr 23, 2008 at 1:29 pm
Oh good, I’m glad that helps! But I’m sorry that it’s not working out for you.
The thing about mineral makeup is that it does tend to be drying (it is, after all, just basically powder). And out of all the mineral makeup brands that I’ve tried (both expensive and inexpensive), this one from Maybelline is definitely the one that was least drying.
What kind of makeup do you normally wear?
172 Mon // Apr 25, 2008 at 10:02 am
Hello!
So I ended up buying the real thing after trying the sample I got from Walmart in the mail.
Well, honestly, I am not sure if this can be, but the sample was 10 times better.
I ended up returning the one I bought because I didn’t like it.
The sample was absolutly great but when I bought it I didn’t get the same effect though I bought the exact same product and color.
Weird, I had heard that they tend to make the samples better than the real thing, maybe that is true
But also, I have a normal/dry skin so I believe this is not the right foundation for me (though, again, I loved the sample!).
173 Jazmin // Apr 25, 2008 at 12:40 pm
Wow that’s weird! I’ve never heard that about samples…but I have experienced varying results after using different containers of the same product. I’ve always suspected that it could be because a product is old. Or that they’ve been subjected to extreme temperatures before making their way onto a store shelf.
Maybe you can try buying another one…maybe from a different store?
174 krystal // Apr 25, 2008 at 7:21 pm
THIS IS THE BEST FOUNDATION I’VE EVER TRIED. I HAVE DRY/SENSITIVE SKIN AND THE POWDER BLENDS REALLY WELL ON ME. MY SKINTONE (I’M FILIPINO) WAS ALWAYS REALLY HARD TO MATCH WITH DIFFERENT FOUNDATION COLORS. BUT WHEN I TOOK PICTURES WHILE WEARING THE FOUNDATION (ALSO WITH THE FLASH ON) THE PICTURES LOOKED MORE NATURAL AND NOT GHOSTLY. IT STAYED ON EVEN AFTER 3 HOURS OF WORKING OUT AND RUNNING AT THE GYM!!!!!!!!!!!!!
175 Nicole // Apr 25, 2008 at 10:27 pm
I love this make up! I have tried multiple mineral foundations and this one is the best for sure! It goes on really well and it really covers my skin. Its a lot better than the “physicians formula” which appears to work the best but it really doesn’t. I recommend using the physicians formula concealer tho, its really good if you want a healthy concealer to put underneath your make up, for 5 bucks that stuff works great and i wear it with the maybelline mineral make up and they really go well together.
176 Jazmin // Apr 28, 2008 at 11:57 am
Hi Krystal and Nicole! That’s awesome that this foundation is working so well for you ladies!
And Nicole, thanks for the tip on the Physician’s Formula concealer. I’ll have to try that combo ; )

I was just trying to remind myself which Mineral MakeUp I use (I only remembered which side of the aisle it’s located on, so that made it either CoverGirl or Maybelline…I’m horrible with names!) and found your blog. Great review….dead on the nose.
I love Maybelline’s foray into the new Mineral leviathon. It’s so soft and natural feeling, and the colors are great. I’m sorry to say that I can’t remember what color I’m using, but I remember thinking the whole spectrum seemed darker than expected and having to go lighter than I normally would, and it worked beautifully.
The brush is functional and gets the job done (amen on the gimmicky packaging of several other lines!), but I prefer a larger kabuki, so bought one specifically for my foundation and my finishing powder.
My 4 year old daughter has a dance recital coming up this summer, and they require her to be in “full” makeup. We tried mommy’s mineral stuff on her this weekend, and it looked so natural, rather than cakey as I would expect liquid foundation to do on a 4 year old’s flawless skin.
I have a horribly oily forehead, and have discovered that if I wash it in the mornings with Neutrogena’s Rapid Clear Oil-Control Foaming Cleanser, it really prolongs the life of the powder mineral foundation on my forehead. I also use Witch Hazel as an astringent on my face at bedtime…which helps reduce the oils produced overnight.
Thanks for the review and rankings….I’m in 100% agreement!
178 Jazmin // Apr 29, 2008 at 9:20 am
Hi Mel! You’re welcome and thank you so much for sharing your experience with this foundation…and for the great tips!
I’m glad that you found something that works so well for you (and for your four-year-old ; )!
I’ll also have to remember to give that Neutrogena cleanser a try ; )

I just got this new mineral make-up. I tried the bare minerals brand what seems ages ago and liked it very much but of course cost being a factor , i induldged no longer.
This product is great, I will say that the bare mineral brand feels silkier. But for 8 buck i won’t complain. I am irish and have red cheek.. with one application my skin tone is even and i too have dry flaky effect with liquid. I have my engagement photos tomorrow. YAY-Me! hello beautiful

And Yay-You!! Congrats on the engagement…how did your photo shoot go?
184 Jazmin // May 13, 2008 at 10:15 pm
Hi Zuri,
I know it can be hard finding the right shade. Some stores have testers of the liquid version of this foundation and even though the shades aren’t exactly the same as the power foundation, they can still be helpful in determining which shade might work for you.
But, generally, my advice is this: Pick a shade that looks like it will work for you and (this is the most important part), buy your foundation from a store that will allow you to return or exchange it if it’s the wrong color. CVS and Walgreens both have generous return policies, though you should always ask before you buy, just to make sure.
Hope that helps!

i have 2 questions–1) i have a slightly oil complexion in my t-zone, but most powders i use i don’t have a problem with, though i’ve never tried a mineral makeup-will it be much different? 2)i’ve never tried liquid foundations, but i’m thinking of trying it. if i do, how would i go about applying it, and would i use it with another product like a powder?
186 Hillarie // May 15, 2008 at 7:12 pm
My skin only occasionally feels oily, but is slightly acne-prone (just little breakouts here and there…especially around the time…well, you know). My forehead is dry, but my cheeks are oily in some spots and have dry patches in others…will this be a problem?
I know I’ve commented under a lot of different brands, but I want to find the best makeup for the smaller price tag :)
187 Jazmin // May 15, 2008 at 7:48 pm
Hi Kendra! In response to your questions:
1) Nope, mineral makeup won’t be much different. Mineral makeup is, basically, just powder foundation. The main difference between mineral foundation and regular pressed and loose finishing powders is that that the mineral foundation offers more coverage.
Among mineral foundations, however, some will absorb oil better than others (and as a result, some might feel more drying than others).
2. With liquid foundation, my favorite technique for applying it is to simply use my fingers. You have good control over the amount you want to apply, how heavily you want to apply it, and where you want to apply it. This is also the easiest method because you don’t have to mess with brushes or sponges.
Whether or not you want to apply a powder after you apply foundation is up to you. If you’re concerned about controlling shine, you’ll almost certainly want to finish off with an oil-absorbing powder. Setting your foundation with a loose powder can also help it last longer.
On the other hand, if you’re in a big hurry or you want more of a “dewy”, natural look, you can skip the powder : )
Hope that helps!
188 Jazmin // May 15, 2008 at 7:53 pm
Hi there, Hillarie! Thanks for the question. Based on your description of your skin, it sounds like this foundation might be a good choice for you. Out of the drugstore mineral makeup brands that I’ve tried, Maybelline’s is the least drying and so it’s probably the least likely to emphasize any dry patches.
Because you do have combo skin, however, you may find oily areas getting shiny midday, so just be prepared with some blotting papers ; )
189 kendra // May 20, 2008 at 3:02 pm
thanks for the help. i decided to go with the powder instead of a liquid and it gives me a great coverage, but it doesn’t go on as easily or as lightly as some others i’ve tried before, and this becomes cakey and sticky within a couple hours.
190 Jazmin // May 20, 2008 at 3:52 pm
You’re welcome! Hmmm…cakey and sticky? Is that just on your oily areas? You could try setting it with a loose powder or wearing a primer underneath it.
191 kendra // May 22, 2008 at 2:31 pm
actually it’s mostly on my cheeks and jawline. what type of primer would i use?
192 Bridget // May 23, 2008 at 10:04 am
I started using this a few months ago after going to Sephora and having a sales lady convince me to let her try the BareEssentials on me. It was amazing, but I couldn’t afford it. My skin is fairly sensitive and not too oily, and I do tend to break out, mostly due to the stress of my graduate program and I figured some mineral make-up might help.
Anyway, since I didn’t think it fiscally responsible to take the plunge for the good stuff, and I saw a bunch of mineral make up at CVS, I thought I’d try out one. They happened to have like a “buy one, get one free” deal on it, so I got the powder foundation and the finishing powder. I have been VERY impressed with this product for my skin.
First, the finishing veil powder or whatever makes my skin look flawless after the application of the powder, and it covers up just about any imperfections my skin has. (Except for some pretty nasty bumps I got around finals time). Anyway, it’s a good investment, and I’m really happy with it. Can’t say as much about the brush, as I lost it soon after buying the product…
Now, if I could just finally find a mascara I liked…
193 Kathy // May 24, 2008 at 2:06 pm
I have been using Cover Girl Advanced Radiance liquid makeup and quite like it. I am interested in trying the Maybelline Mineral makeup powder. Is it considered a full coverage makeup? I’m 50, and although most people tell me I do not look my age I do find I’m needing a little more coverage these days. The CG is working nicely but the mineral powder insterests me. I checked the web site and am a little concered about trying to pick a colour. Am I understanding that most people find the colours a little darker than expected?

I’ve been wearing the powder #2 shade foundation for a couple of weeks. My skin is mostly normal with some oily t-zone. I’m 36 and have had some trouble with my breakouts (especially in the forhead area). I think it is due mostly to using a sponge to apply liquid makeup. The powder foundation has been so perfect for my skin. I can’t think of anything negative to say about it. I guess I thought that I didn’t need a setting powder on top of a powder foundation, but based on some of the other reviews, I think I’ll try that. It might keep it looking great even longer than it already does. My favorite part is that I really don’t feel like I have make-up on at all. That’s so nice!

Hi there, I don’t usually wear makeup, but at almost 50 I’d like to try MMU to even out the skin a bit. I wish the Maybelline had the SPF number on it. I wonder why they don’t say it has SPF. I was under the impression that MMU naturally had it.
I was reading the reviews here and at Makeup Alley. I didn’t read any here that commented on this foundation being/turning orange. On Makeup Alley though many people complained of this. Any thoughts on this foundation turning orange. I find it interesting that one place has many that say it does, and here no one said it does. Thanks for the great blog.
199 Sherry // Jun 7, 2008 at 7:21 pm
I haven’t had any trouble with it TURNING orange, but I did choose the wrong color to start with (easy to do without samples avaiable) and that shade unfortunately was not wearable for me. It looked orange on my skin, but I just figured it was because the color was in fact so wrong for me.

201 Kathy // Jun 14, 2008 at 8:49 am
This may not be the place to put this but I tried Physicians Formula pressed mineral powder. I have been looking at Maybelline mineral powder but it was so hard to pick a shade. I purchased a package that had the powder and blush for $20.99 (canadian). The deal came in limited colours – creamy natural, beige, and a bronzer. I went with the creamy natural but found it too light. I have a bit of a tan and when I put it on it was lighter than my skin. I have dark hair, blue eyes and fairly light toned skin, but not really pale, like someone with blonde hair might have. The beige is pretty good. It might be a little dark for me in the winter but it’s working now. I even put a light touch of my bronzer on as well. I have extremely sensitive skin and eyes and am having no trouble with this. The coverage is medium. I am 50 and find it’s doing the job. Again, in winter with no tan it might not be enough, but we’ll see. It feel very light on my face like I’m wearing nothing. I see a bit of a shine in the afternoon but it has also been terribly humid here which could account for that. The blush that came with it is rosy glow and it is lovely. Youi do need to have a light hand with it. So, if you have sensitive skin and are looking to try something I do recommend this. I did want to try Maybelline but just couldn’t see the colours well enough to make a decision due to the packaging.
202 Manet // Jun 23, 2008 at 5:25 am
hey jazmin,
Love your reviews. :)
I actually bought this product a while back, and I got the wrong color (Honey Beige, I think). When I brushed it on my whole face it just looked too pink on my skin. Coverage was great though. But, since I hate putting things to waste (especially makeup, even the cheap ones) I figured since it’s a little pink on me…why not use it as a blush? So I applied it to just my cheeks (with the foundation that I’ve been using for a long time: L’Oreal True Match) and it worked out great! It has that dewy look (micro-minerals doing their thing?) and is just the perfect “blush” tone for me. I do agree on the oily factor though, but I solve that with a mattifying primer under and the Maybelline Finishing Veil Transluscent Powder on top. And I gotta say it all works like a pro.
Again…thanks for all your great reviews. I love them all.

Hi! I just bought The Mabelline Mineral Makeup, and I love it. I have acne and very oily skin, I am shocked at the coverage it give me! Earlier today I purchased Bare Minerals it set me back 70 bucks and for a college student thats a lot of money! I went to Wal-Mart a few hours later to find this Mineral Make-up, I saw the price and I wanted to try it! Can anyone help me compare Bare to Maybelline? Besides the amazing price difference…? I think I am going to send BareMinearals back as soon as I get it. You can’t beat Maybellines price!

I am a white person, but I have very olive skin and tan easily and naturally. I DO wear sunscreen, but my skin is just naturally quite dark. Having said that, I bought Medium 2 — and my daughter said I looked like Pocahontas! Yeah, REAL natural. Why don’t they have some TESTERS? The price may be LOW, but when you have to buy two or three to find the right shade, it kind of ruins the “discount” you’re getting!

I JAVE USSED BARE MINERALS AND LOVED IT BUT I DIDNT LOVE THE PRICE! SO I STARTED LOOKING FOR A CHEAPER MINERAL MAKE UP THAT WAS STILL GOOD FOR MY SKIN, I TRIED CG MINERAL MAKEUP AND HATED IT!! IT WAS THE WORTS MAKE UP I HAVE EVER USED A TOTAL WASTE OF MONEY!! SO WHEN MAYBELLINE CAME OUT WITH THIS I WASNT TO SURE OF IT BUT I LOVED IT WHEN I GOT IT I HAVE TRIED BOTH THE POWED AND THE LIQUID AND LOVE THEM BOTH!! I READ SOME OF THE REVIEWS AND I THINK I CAN ANSWER SOME OF THE QUSTIONS THAT SOME PPL HAD! OK HERE IT GOSE TO NANCY NJ I REMBER SEEING A CMOERCIAL WHEN THIS FRIST CAME OUT SAYING THAT IT HAS SPF 18 IN THATS WHAT COUGHT MY EYE(IM SO SCARED OF SKIN CANCER IM ALWAYS DOBBLEING UP PN SPF) AND TO SARAHPUFFY THE DO HAVE A FINSHING VEIL IN COMPACT I USE IT AND LOVE IT! ITS LIKE THE CHERRY ON TOP BUT IT HAS A TINT OF COLOR TO IT SO YOU MAY NOT LIKE IT BUT IT IS SO EASY TO USE ON THE GO I THOUGHT YOU MIGHT WANT TO KNOW ABOUT IT. AND TO KATHY ON THE MAYBELLINE WEB SITE IT SAYS THET THE LIQUDE IS MEDIUM COVERAGE AND THE LOOSE POWDER IS MEDUIM TO FULL, BUT I HAD GREAT COVERAGE WITH BOTH! OVER ALL I LOVE THIS STUFF PPLE CANT EVEN TELL IM WEARING MAKE UP YES ITS THAT GOOD!!

Hello, I just came across this web site by chance while doing research on bare minerals (I saw their infomercial this morning). I am 40 and have had never had the need to use foundation. I like that flawless finish that women who use foundation have, but i do not want the chalky look. I have had a child five months ago hahaha (at the age of forty) the joke is on me i thought i was done. so I am looking for something that will not rub off to heavily on the babies clothes (I use the word babies because my 23 year old son made me a grandmother of twin boys 3 months ago) and will also wash of easily. I will try the maybelline product after reading your reviews. I am a bit concerned about the color choices though. I am dark skin with red undertones. I also have freckles and red hair. I am a very mixed person. I am clueless about foundations and masscara see i can not even spell it if i spelled it wrong forgive me. Any recommendations and advice will be helpful. I have combination skin
P.S I Just realized mascarra and eyeshadow are two different things. I would not know how to start using these things. Can you help me or point me in the right direction. Thank you

hey im 13 and ive been wearing this stuff for about 3 months. ITS AHMAZING!!! i have normal skin so it gives me a luminous finish and covers up my bags, blemishes, and well everything in between. it works soo well :) i saw the add in teen vogue and thought abou trying it. so i bought it at my rite aid and its done ahmazing things. its even CLEARED UP my skin a lot. like with my old coverup solutions, ibroke up or it just wasnt working for me. and at 13, im glad that it looks barely noticeable but leaves my face looking amazing. its like i give off this sunkised glow! and it never got cakey once! most makeups ive tried, even the top brands like M.A.C eventually got cakey on me. but this is perfect! i can still look my age of 13, but i look just a hundred times better. i have a fresh and flirty look now! it goes perfectly with my personality. i luv it

Hi, after reading others comments i felt i had to add mine. I have dry skin on my cheeks which is not visable until i use this foundation.
It does not cover blemishes at all and looks odd on the skin to cover this i add bronzer.
After a few hours my chin and nose look very oily and very powderery. What ever you do don’t apply concealer or touch your face with your hands because it will split!
The good point with this is it doesn’t cause many breakouts. I used this mainly because of this but have just switched to tinted moisturiser which gave a far better coverage.

I have never used a foundation before as I didn’t want to look too made-up and didn’t especially need it, and also a few months back I had REALLY bad spots and didn’t want to risk making them worse. But recently I’ve heard how mineral make-ups look really natural, and I wanted something to cover all the red patches left by my mega breakout.
I got the shade #2 rose ivory (I think different shades may be available here in the UK than in America?) which is absolutely perfect for me.
I don’t find it messy to apply and the brush feels quite soft to me. It looks really nice straight after applying (I needed two coats to conceal the redness on my chin) but the last couple of days it began to look cakey and powdery around my nose and on my chin about 2 hours after applying. It didn’t do this the times I applied it before, which is weird. Also I did get shine on my chin (which is oily) after a few hours.
I also found that it doesn’t irritate my skin at all, and conceals spots really well – wiping it off yesterday, I was shocked to see a big spot underneath – I couldn’t see it at all with the foundation on!
Bad points: it starts to look powdery really easily; also, i found applying loose translucent powder (not a mineral one) to control shine seems to ruin the look of the make-up. And the brush, although soft, seems to be falling apart already! The other thing I have found is that any broken or peeling skin (another after effect of my spots) gets powder gathering around it. So I’m not sure if I will continue to use this foundation or try out some non-powder ones.

I’ve been a faithful user of Bare Minerals for over 5 years and was very happy to know that other cosmetic lines were coming out with their own mineral foundation.
I of course had to try the Maybelline Mineral Foundation. I have to admit, its just as good, if not a tad bit better than the Bare Minerals. It covers enough, its not as shiny as BM, and it doesnt cake.
I dont like the brush, but I can use another one. I also tried the Revlon’s mineral foundation and found it to be too lite on me, as if I was wearing translucent powder.
Thanks for reviewing this!!
215 neevyg // Aug 22, 2008 at 10:20 pm
after this review I really want to try maybelline but I do have combination skin so I dnt know if it’ll exacerbate the oiliness….what bout any reviews about any of the drugs-store mineral concealers?
216 Tiffany // Aug 23, 2008 at 7:35 pm
The only problems I have with this , is that it makes my skin feel a bit dry and tight, and the brush is a litle bit too stiff, but it does provide great coverage.

Wanted to add my $.02 because I came to this site for advice on this make-up before I purchased it. I do really like it a lot, and I have an oily T-zone. Maybe it’s the new cleanser I got that is helping as well, but I’m not having oily face issues (yet?) with this make-up. My only issue is that I think I need to get an even lighter shade. I bought the light 4 shade of nude, and I believe it is still a bit dark for me. (For a Bare Minerals comparison, I mixed the medium and medium beige.) So I’ll probably buy a lighter shade and mix them up to see what I get. Overall, I do like the product!

I purchased the mineral power creamy natural and was very sceptical. But after a week, I’m hooked … I love it. Only thing I had to purchase extra was some concealer for the ” once every so often dark circles under the eyes a blemish or 2 ok maybe 3. But once again I love the product. Thanks for an amazing product.
219 karen // Oct 14, 2008 at 7:58 pm
well, I have the oily/dry combo skin type
but I just love the mineral power line.
you are right about the oily part after a few hours but I only get it sometimes and I’m always checking my face so when I see the oils I just cover it up with the pressed powder. now the liquid version is another story for me… it’s a no! a minute after i’m oily and I just look horrible.
220 SillyLaura // Oct 14, 2008 at 9:52 pm
I’m curious about this foundation, I currently use Revlon’s mineral make-up and have become somewhat concerned about it containing talc.
I have relatively normal skin, not oily..not too dry either. Just wonder..how long does this make-up last? Since the Revlon one boasts it can last up to 16 hours..which is quite a feet!
221 Bethany // Oct 15, 2008 at 9:15 am
I picked this up yesterday after finding BareMinerals too expensive to try. I was very skeptical, but it’s AWESOME! I usually wear liquid foundation and cover it up with powder, but this powder was perfectly enough that I didn’t even have to bother with any pore-clogging liquid! And the price was great, under $10. I’ll definitely buy this again!
222 sherry // Oct 19, 2008 at 12:09 pm
Do you suggest this for problem skin – acne? what mineral powders can one with problem skin use?
223 Hannah // Oct 23, 2008 at 3:31 pm
It definitely made my skin break out but i have very oily skin so that could very much be the reason.
224 Amy // Oct 25, 2008 at 1:53 am
I did promotional work for maybelline using this product and it basically sold itself. It’s incredible! Doesn’t itch my eyes, hurt my skin and it feels like there is nothing there. Could not talk this product up enough, love it. The blushes and really beautiful too!

Hi, Makeup Moxies!
I am wondering if Maybelline’s powder is right for me. I am Asian, and I am below 20 years old. I don’t have oily skin, but my nose looks oily after a few hours with Revlon’s Colorstay foundation powder. I have a few scars left from nasty big pimples, but they are not very dark. I am currently using Maybelline’s concealer to cover them. Should I purchase the powder?
226 Pru // Nov 3, 2008 at 8:27 am
I am 50+ and my 17 year old daughter turned me on to this stuff. I have been a diehard liquid foundation user for years and was afraid mineral powder would settle in all my wrinkles. Although this product doesn’t give me an instant facelift by any means, I love the look and the luminosity it gives my skin. The liquid concealer is great for under eyes and I bought the blush in peach that is very natural looking. I am using the foundation powder as well as the finishing veil and it does not look cakey at all. This ones a winner!

Wish I discovered this product a year ago – I’m a mid age woman w. large-pored, oily skin and some lines. For me, I was amazed by the lightness of this product, the light coverage, and it does just what a light foundation should – even things out. After hours on, yes, I do need to powder off or blot, but for me that’s OK. What’s great is that this goes on so well that if I get the shade right (I did, Classic Ivory) I can slap it on in poor lighting, and not have to worry about caking and the orange mask look. It doesn’t feel dry. I thought the brush included is very soft, very good quality. The only negative for me is that unlike Loreal, the brush has no cover, but easy enough to find some little case – or investigate more of the product line, which I was going to do anyway. Very impressed, just hope Maybelline keeps the line around like they did with Great Lash mascara. A+

I’m 52 years old and have taken pretty good care of my skin since I was 15. I’m also a make-up junkie. Dept. store stuff, drug store stuff, whatever. Since I’m on disability now, I can’t afford the pricey make-up anymore. Last night I purchased the Mineral Powder and used it this morning. I Love It!!! It went on smoothly, gave me the coverage I needed, and hasn’t settled into any of the fine lines I’ve earned over the years. I like that I didn’t have to use a whole lot, and I also like the fact that you can control how much coverage you want on any given area. This is a keeper!
230 Angela // Dec 11, 2008 at 10:51 pm
I like this foundation quite a bit. I also use their mineral liquid concealer on some of my more spotty areas. Only caveat, let the concealer FULLY dry before applying the mineral powder, otherwise, it cakes on just those spots. Your face needs to be pretty dry before applying this foundation. It provides a very nice coverage, minimal to no caking after a full day of wear. If you have oily skin, it may “pool” in areas, such as the creases of your nose. Otherwise, I love it.
My regimen is to dab concealer on the really red spots, let fully dry, then apply a thin layer of the mineral foundation over my full face. Then, I take a eye-makeup bristled brush and use the foundation to apply a second layer on any remaining red areas and over my eyelids and under my eyes. I use it in place of regular eye concealer and it works very well. Doesn’t crease during the entire day! Color cards provided by the company are very misleading, as the shades move to dark way too quickly and it doesn’t look like that on the cards. Best advice: if it looks like it matches your skin tone, go one shade lighter. Their powders seem to go on very dark. Still, with all the shades in the range, you are sure to find one that matches. However, be prepared to spend a bit to try out a few shades before you find one that works for you. It’s now my favorite makeup. :)

I purchased the maybelline mineral powder today
however i was pretty disappointed
it failed to cover blemishes
and the more I put on the more I looked like a cake face

I have acne prone skin so I was nervous about wearing anything at all I normally just use moisturizer and some concelar on problem spots. My mom gave me some bareMinerals so i have been using the prime time foundation primer with maybelline mineral power foundation loose powder with mineral veil as well. I really love the look but I am starting to break out so I dont know if its from the bareMinerals or Maybelline. Anyone had problems with any of these products acne related? Maybe all the different products together? Thanks for all the info you can provide for me.

So basically this won’t do me any good? (<— has acne-prone skin)
(I just recently bought the “convenient-all-in-one-box sooo I was just wondering if this just helps cover blemishes)

I have been using Maybelline products ever since I started wearing make up {which is a LONG time } always loved the colors, lasting power ,never an allergic reaction on my skin etc .
I recently purchased Mineral Power finishing veil powder & the natural perfecting concealer & wasn’t happy w/it . At least for me , the powder left my skin looking like it had a glow & it looked shiny & I like a more matte finish , like the Dream Matte powder , its GREAT .
As for the concealer , the color match was great ,cov was OK , but within an hr of wearing it , I already noticed under my eyes it was creasing into the tiny lines & looked as if I had been wearing it all day . I’m sorry I wasnt pleased at all . I need something that lasts all day & looks just put on ,,,my orig MK concealer does the trick , its a lil pricey , but nothing seems to compare .
