While Victoria Beckham’s signature Posh Bob inspired legions of women to lop off their locks, the trendsters of 2008 are likely to go the more natural route.
Models at the Ford Supermodel of the World competition (including winner Seung-hyun Kang) rocked natural, loosely styled hair that ranged from romantic half-up/half-down coifs, to simple & sexy side-parts and loose, tousled waves.

Roy Teeluck, Nexxus editorial director and supervisor of the competition’s haircare styling, described the 2008 hair trend as the “unpolished, on-the-go look.”
But that doesn’t mean that you get a free pass for rolling out of bed and leaving the house with totally crazy hair. Teeluck still kept the looks soft and shiny with a leave-in conditioner (his must-have for this competition was Nexxus Humectress Luxe, available March 2008).
So let’s talk State of the Posh Bob, Makeup Moxies. Tired of it? Still lovin’ it? Not quite ready to let it go because you don’t want to deal with the in-between “growing out” stage? Feel free to comment!

OH NO!! And i finally got up the courage to go for the Pob! Sometimes I feel like trends move so fast that I can never keep up :(

Hi Cat! Don’t worry!! I don’t think the Pob is going anywhere any time soon.
And don’t worry too much about trends, either ; ) I think the key to great style (whether it’s in terms of beauty or fashion) is finding what makes you look and feel good and then carrying it off with confidence.
So if you love your Posh bob, just have fun and ROCK it!
; )

The new trend is just too bad. I have naturally sleek and straight hair - no way I am going to get it to look “totally crazy”. I guess you win some and you lose some :-)

Great article! I got my hair cut back into a bob (it was really only down to just-above my shoulders before) but I went more for Katie Holmes’ style. I’m loving it, but then again, I’m not a too worried about hair trends. The shorter cuts look best on me so I know thats what works. :) Plus it would take me years to grow my hair out long, and I’d get really (lol) bored while trying to do it. I love changing my hair color and cut every few months. It’s cheap thrills, I guess. ;)

I just got what was supposed to be the “Pob”. I was surprised when I told my stylist I wanted the posh spice cut and she said, “huh, never heard of it.” I wondered if she lived under a rock or something.
She pulled out a picture after I described the style, and it was a picture of somebody rocking a version of the “Pob”. So I let my stylist go for it. She said the haircut has been around for a long time.
And she cut all of my hair too short. The front is okay, the back reminds me of Kris Jenner’s hair - which I think is cute but I have this combo haircut and I have the hardest time styling it to look like the Pob.
I am now considering getting the longer part chopped off so I can style my hair like the aforementioned Jenner. Either that or I’m growing it out so it will look more like the pob. By the time my hair gets longer though, this trend will be long gone. I live in Vermont, so trends tend to hit here later than everywhere else.
The only way I can describe my hair as it is right now is a backwards mullet. Wrap your mind around that one!
Maybe I should just shave my head and be done with it! I’m frustrated!

Hey HB!
When it comes to hair, I really believe that you have to work with what you’ve got rather than trying to beat your locks into submission. I’ve got super straight hair, too, so I totally understand how it goes ; )
The good news is that this look is not totally crazy, it’s more of a natural-looking, tousled style. If you’re interested in trying to achieve it, you might want to check out this tip for getting wavy hair.
Hi Jami! Thanks for stopping by! I’m so glad you enjoyed this post. And I’m all about the cheap hair thrills — especially when it comes to my bangs. I spend a long time growing them out…then I get tired of not having bangs, so I cut them again…then I get tired of having them, so I grow my hair out again…and on and on and on, lol ; )
Celisa: You poor thing, put down the clippers! Ugh, there are few beauty woes more frustrating than a haircut gone awry. I once walked into a hair salon announcing that I wanted Pamela Anderson’s sideswept bangs and big sexy hair…unfortunately, I walked out with a weird, mullet-type thing that took a ton of time and hair products to look half-way decent.
The great news, as you already know, is that your “backwards mullet” is only temporary and will grow back out again.
Unless you’re really absolutely hating your hair right now, I think you should hold off on the haircut…you don’t want to make a rash decision and potentially get a haircut that you like even less and will take even longer to grow out (though I do think Kris Jenner’s hair is glam and cute, if you decide to go that route).
Plus, hair tends to “weird out” when you first get it cut (especially if you had really long hair, before). It might just need a little time to adjust to the new cut.
Try growing it out a little, it might become more “pobby” sooner than you think.
Good luck! Be sure to let me know how it works out ; )

I have worn a bob on and off for years…To me, it is a style most anyone can pull off,,,depending on your hairtype…Obviously, if your hair is thick and curly, it’s going to take a lot of product and elbow grease, not worth it…I think it is a timeless look, however, for anyone with fine to medium thick hair, and straight to slightly wavy texture. The one problem I see over and over is stylists not getting the back a little shorter than the front…it should graduate, from shorter at the nape to about an inch longer in the front…otherwise it will look too “A-line” and that, to me, ruins the fluidity of it…Personally, I don’t care for Posh…I think she’s a little too plastic, but she does “own” this haircut…Funny, tho, no one seems to remember the ’60’s…Vidal Sassoon started this trend over 40 years ago…

Hi jonesygirl9,
Thanks so much for raising some important points! You’re absolutely right, the bob is a classic style…Anna Wintour has been sporting one for decades (though I guess it’s more of a page boy?).
And that’s so interesting! I didn’t realize that Vidal Sassoon made the style popular in the ’60’s…though if we really want to go back in time, flappers were rocking this sexy cut in the 20’s too!

Hi there,
Thanks for the comment! Would you be willing to share some of your fave tips for styling your pob?
I’m sure there are a lot of makeup moxies here who would love to hear them ; )

I think it’s great when new trends come out, but I think it’s even classier when you make up the trends on your own! I have a bob, my hair grows slow, and I wish I had really long hair! But my style is always changing, so I do my best to change up my look with little things…I let my bob go a little natural sometimes, and sometimes I straighten it! It really changes my look!
So say goodbye to trends, please…
don’t follow everything that you see. Take note of what you like, and make it your OWN!

Great advice, Roc! I love it ; )
