Milani’s Multi-tasking Mosaics
Want a subtle flush of face color and perfectly coordinated eyeshadows…all in one slim compact? Look no further than Milani Powder Mosaics.
At only $8.49, the refined texture of this powder is admirable and, with a little help, can definitely hold its own when compared to pricier mosaic powders.
Out of the seven skin-tone-friendly shades, you’re almost certain to find one (or two or three : ) that you’ll love. I had the opportunity to try this powder in “Sunset Spice” (my new fave skin-warming bronzer) as well as “Plum Delish,” which is an excellent plummy blush that has built-in shades of brown that prevent the color from being too bright or too purple.
Each compact features four silky shades of powder all pressed together. Use a big, fluffy brush to combine all the shades for an excellent blush or bronzer or wear the colors individually as perfectly coordinated eyeshadows.
All of the palettes, except for the all-pink-toned “Sweet Cheeks” blush palette, also contain a deeper brown shade that’s perfect for lining eyes.
While the palette performs fabulously as cheek and face color, I found that, as eyeshadows, it doesn’t wear quite as long as I would like. A little eye primer, however, significantly extended this product’s lasting-power when used on the eyes.
All in all, Milani Powder Mosaics is quite the budget-friendly superstar and I definitely recommend it. You can snag ‘em at drugstores like CVS and Walgreens
Have you tried Milani Powder Mosaics? What do you think of it?

Your reviews of Milani actually make me want to try their products. Milani is one of those brands that I always pass up when I’m at my drugstore beauty aisle because it looks kind of cheap. Not that I have anything against cheap makeup! I just want something that works : )

Hi Jaime! You’re welcome! Let me know how it works out for you as an eyeshadow…try to use a primer if you can. It will stay on longer ; )
Hi Cat! lol, I know it’s hard sometimes not to judge a book by its cover…or a makeup by it’s packaging : )
I’m really growing to like the Milani brand…and it is “cheap” in the sense that it is one of the most inexpensive makeup brands out there. The products, however, are nice quality. I think this palette would be a nice introduction to the brand. If you end up trying it, please be sure to let me know what you think!

I’ve heard that Milani was pretty good but I’ve only tried the mineral makeup. I think it’s just as good (even better) than some of the more expensive brands.
Have you tried any of the eyeshadows???

Hi malygirl! Yes, I definitely agree that when it comes to getting more bang for your beauty buck, Milani Mineral makeup is one of the best ; )
And yes, I did have the opportunity to try the eyeshadows. I’ve been meaning to write a full review on them! I actually really like them. They come in an impressive range of shades and they’re well pigmented. They not terribly long-wearing, but they get the job done (especially if you use it with an eye primer ; )
I think they’re worth a try ; )
Thanks for the question!

You all should try the Milani eyeliners! I bought a gorgeous gold one and a dramatic deep green on sale one day and will probably buy more in the future. They glide on smoothly and last without drifting.

Hi Anjali! Oooh, those sound so pretty! I’ve actually tried one of the Milani liners and I liked it.
From what I remember, though, it wasn’t quite as smooth as I would have liked…but now that you’ve brought it up, I’m definitely going to give it another chance ; )
Thanks so much for the comment!

Thanks for all your helpful reviews, Jazmin. I have really enjoyed reading and have learned alot here. Which eyeliners do you think are the best?

You’re so welcome…and I’m so happy that you’re enjoying the site and learning new things here!
As for what eyeliners I think are best, it really depends on the situation.
For regular daytime wear, I usually line my eyes using this saline eyeliner trick using dark eyeshadow (my favorites include MAC, Too Faced, and Dior).
If I’m going for a more dramatic eye look and/or I need the liner to really last for a long time, one of my go-to faves is Stila’s Smudgepot.
As for liquid liners, my current fave is Maybelline Lineworks waterproof liner (*not* to be mistaken with the far inferior Maybelline “Ultra” liner).
Oh, and I also like Almay’s 16- Hour liners : )

I used to never do smoky-eyes b/c it would always migrate into a haze under my eyes but I love your saline trick! It increased the staying power and opacity of my powder eyeshadow and caused me to revisit some colors from the back of the drawer that I thought were too sheer, with good results.
As for Stila’s Smudge Pots I wonder if you find that it dries up in the pot? Some posters on Amazon thought so and that’s not something I could know by trying it on at my local Ulta.
My current fave liquid liner is CoverGirl LineExact. It’s an easy felt tip, great for us clumsy girls.
I will be sure to try the Almay 16-Hour Liner since I still don’t have what I consider the Holy Grail of black eyeliners(strong color, glides on smoothly, staying power, comes off at night w/ makeup remover, smudgable)
Jordana Easyliner is probably the best bargain brand that I’ve found($1.50 each!). They have lots of colors and a smooth gel-like formula in a retractable pencil. I have Sterling Blue, an intense Mediterranean color and Bliss, a bright aqua. Both of them have an iridescent formula that is fun and flattering to my brown eyes.

Awesome! One of our fellow makeup moxies said something similar about the saline trick…when you discover it, it’s like you discover that you suddenly have almost twice the amount of eye makeup than you thought you had ; )
With Stila Smudge Pots, yep, I found that they do dry out, but it probably took them about a year. I have no problem with it because I would toss them out after about 4-6 months anyway.
I’ve never tried CoverGirl Line Exact, but I do like those felt tips (I’ve tried L’Oreal’s, but found that it doesn’t stay put as well as the Maybelline).
Ooh! And I haven’t tried Jordana, either, but I’ve heard good things about it before. I should try those out.
AS for the Almay 16-Hour liner, I wouldn’t consider it a Holy Grail. From your description of what you would like, I think you might really like Stila Smudge Pots (but only if you’re comfortable using liner brushes : )

What exactly does a mosaic do? Does your skin tone matter? How do you pick which mosaic is right for you?
15 Jazmin // Apr 17, 2008 at 9:01 pm
Hi Tammie, thanks for the questions!
A mosaic is basically a blush or bronzer. It comes in a compact with several separate colors in it that are arranged in a pattern that makes it look like a mosaic (hence the name ; ) When you swirl a face brush over the powders, they blend together into one shade that you use on your face.
The advantage to having these different shades shades of powder is that you can use them separately as eyeshadows or all together as a single blush or bronzer (so it’s kind of like having two products in one).
And when it comes to choosing which one you like, you would choose it based on your skin tone and the look that you would like to achieve.
With these Milani powders, you can generally go for the lighter ones if you have lighter skin and the darker ones if you have darker skin. If you let me know what your skin tone is, I could try to make some specific recommendations for you ; )

What are these Mosaics exactly? Are they blush, bronzer, or eye shadow, or all of the above? It’s prolly obvious I have never used any such thing before. :-)
17 Jazmin // May 28, 2008 at 10:41 am
Hi Sprygrl! That’s a fair question! Especially since I devoted a big part of the review to using the mosaic powder as an eyeshadow.
Technically, this mosaic powder is intended for use on your face. The pink ones are blush and the brown ones are bronzers.
However, as with any powder that’s intended for use on the face, you can also use it on your eyes (see this article as another example).
Hope that helps! Be sure to let me know if you have any other questions ; )
