New RareMinerals Cleanser and Blemish Treatment
Though it’s been regarded as little more than glorified dirt, the Bare Escenutuals RareMinerals line has expanded to include a skin cleanser and a blemish spot-treatment.
Both are extremely interesting products, though I’m wary of their efficacy.
When activated with water, the powder-based mineral cleanser is supposed to release antioxidant and botanicals that help to gently cleanse skin while providing gentle exfoliation and skin-nourishing benefits.
RareMinerals Blemish Therapy is also a powdered, mineral-based treatment that is supposed to offer non-irritating, exfoliating acne treatment through the use of sulfur.
In addition to healing blemishes, this formula is supposed to reduce blackheads, absorb oil, minimize the appearance of pores and neutralize redness (translation: like the original RareMinerals powder, Blemish Therapy will provide some light skin coverage).
The cleanser costs $26 and the blemish therapy formula
costs $28. Both are available from Nordstrom.
Has anyone tried either of these products? What do you think of them?

I absolutely love this cleanser. It actually feels good to wash my face. The creamy lather is addictive and I noticed within 2 days that the redness from my psoriasis/roseaca
(?) has dramatically reduced. I don’t remember when my face was so smooth. A very happy customer!

Hi Rubii! Yes, it is interesting. There aren’t too many (mainstream) dry cleansers on the market and it certainly comes with a tempting sales pitch!
Teyah, thanks for sharing your opinion on the product. That’s great that you’ve found something that works for you! Please be sure to keep us updated and let us know if it continues to work for you (and hopefully it does :)

I bought both of these products last week, and though I love the idea of the cleanser, there were two reasons it ended up going to live with my mom. I was to afriad of getting water into the bottle when I use it in the shower (which is where I usually wash my face) and the smell. It STINKS when it is “activated” by water… not just a light unpleasent smell, it’s pretty strong. BUT… I have been usuing the acne stuff at least once if not twice a day for a week, and no, it’s no miracle cure but it has reduced the redness of the break outs I have just as much as some more expensive spot treatments I have used… I only wish they had used some sacillyc acid in it (I know, it’ not natural but it works) then maybe I would be ready to use it all the time. But, as a day treatment under makeup, it’s perfect, since I find it to messy to use liquid spot treatments under my bare minerals during the day.

Hi Sheena! Thanks so much for commenting!
Wow, I hadn’t even thought about the dangers of keeping this stuff in the shower (which is where I usually wash my face, too ; )
lol, so now you’ve got me curious…what does the cleanser smell like?

I am an Esthetician who decided to give this a try. I bought the RareMinerals cleanser and blemish therapy. I like them both but especially like the cleanser. I have had adult acne for years and feel this is great for oily, acne prone skin. I can’t speak for the dry skin types. One way you can use this is to mix with water but create a thicker consistency and spread it all over your face and then walk away for an hour or so. Then rinse it off. Not so thick that you can really see and feel it, but enough so a little touches each part of your face. The smell isn’t bad. It smells like the Aveeno oatmeal powdered bath soak. Considering it has oatmeal in it, I can’t say that surprises me! It isn’t a strong smell though. I doubt I will use it morning and night as recommended, but I will use it at least once a day.

Well everyone, I have been using the RareMinerals cleanser for a week and I love it!!!! I use it morning and night my skin feels so refreshed! I agree with the oatmeal smell, but its really not that bad. I also use this is the shower, the thing is your hands are suppose to be wet and the same with your face. I just pour a little in my hand, close it with the other and sit it on my shower shelf. I have no problem with the water gettting into the bottle. I just started using the night time treatment and i can already fell my face getting smoother in just three days. And now I am waiting on the blemish therapy, but i use all of their makeup and i am sure i will be impressed, so many people compliment me at work from my skin tone. i have never worn makeup until now, it is so natural and light, all of you should try it…

Thanks for leaving your feedback on this cleanser! I’ve been using it too, and I have to say that it’s surpassed my expectations!

Yea I have been using the cleanser for about a month now. I wanted it as soon as it came out cuz I have been using the rare minerals night treatments and they both work wonders. I used to have a big acne problem and my pores were big but now my pores are almost invisible. So yea you have to try this stuff.

I recently bought the blemish treatment, and I don’t find it to be much more effective than other types of treatments. =( One good thing about it though is that it’s great for day time use with makeup, and it stays put pretty well, to my surprise, even though it’s in powder form. Although they could’ve made the color a bit less chalky, so it looks more natural against the skin.
14 Jazmin // Mar 19, 2008 at 1:45 pm
Interesting! But you did find that it worked, somewhat?
And that’s a great idea to have it be tinted…sort of like a multi-tasking concealer/blemish spot treatment!
15 karen // Mar 26, 2008 at 11:13 pm
I have tried the cleanser for about 3 nights now. First of all, I dont see the “lather”, creamy or otherwise that everyone is talking about. It just looks like whitish colored water when I add the water, no matter how hard or softly I rub my hands together. And, after I wash I have a tight dry feeling and have to put on moisturizer within a few minutes. I’m not convinced yet…..we shall see.
16 Jazmin // Mar 31, 2008 at 4:42 pm
I agree…this cleanser really doesn’t create much of a lather.
I’ve been experimenting with the amount I use and I found that if I use a little more than what’s recommended (which really isn’t necessary), I can get it to become a little bubbly.
But it’s still pretty much just watery mud, lol ; )

the body shop has a wonderful powder cleanser in its “moisture white” range. the range uses vitamin c and licorice root extract to reduce hyperpigmentation, say bye bye to those spots! it may not be targeted for blemishes but its an amazing cleanser and leaves my skin super soft!
and water doesnt get into the bottle!
18 Jazmin // Apr 28, 2008 at 10:28 am
Oooh, I’ll have to check that out! I also recently found out that Burt’s Bees makes a clay-based powder cleanser. Ah, so many beauty products, so little time!

I have no idea what people’s problem with the smell of this product is. to me, it smells like it would be nourishing to the skin, and doesn’t smell like sulphur or anything gross. it’s nice!

I have used the blemish therapy and am very happy. I find most acne products to drying for my patchy combination skin. I have tried just about every acne product under the sun!!! Being in my mid-twenties I need to moisturize more and struggle with using products I feel are targeted to someone in jr high!! Adults have acne too!!! It is very embarrassing having worse skin than my students. I don’t have terrible acne but get an occasional blemish but have very congested large pores. I seem to have similar results with most all products– if I use them continually they work but often times have a nasty side effect–make skin dry, sticky feeling etc. I am so happy with the product– it works wonderfully and doesn’t feel like i have a layer of gunk on my face. I noticed a change in my skin in just one day. No other product has “really cleaned” my pores– I am so thankful for this product.

I love BE-just bought the cleasener have used it for three days and love it.
22 Jazmin // May 13, 2008 at 9:50 pm
Hi ladies! I’ve been meaning to write a review on this stuff for awhile now, but I’ve been behind, so thanks so much for sharing your opinions of this product!
Vicki, I agree with you about the smell. I actually like it…though I can understand how someone who prefers more traditional-smelling face products might find it off-putting or unusual.
And Erin, I’m so glad that you found something that works for you. And, yes, adults definitely have acne too! And not only are a lot of those acne medications marketed towards teens ineffective for adults, they’re ineffective for teens, too! I think a lot of them are too harsh.
Melissa, glad you’re loving your new cleanser! Please be sure to give us an update as you continue to use it ; )

24 Jazmin // Jun 13, 2008 at 5:18 pm
Hey ApRiLBuG (cute name!),
Just out of curiosity, what is it exactly that you don’t like about the smell?
: )

Thank you guys soo much! I have been trying to get rid of acne for so long and it just keeps getting worse. This is the first product I’ve found that most people agree on. I’m gonna try it. I hope it helps me as much as all of u!
26 Jazmin // Sep 14, 2008 at 4:26 pm
Hi there! I’m sorry to hear that you’ve been having problems with acne (I understand how that goes, I’ve been there!).
One reason that so many people disagree about what products work best for their acne is because there’s different types of acne and individuals respond differently to the various types of treatments (ProActiv is still my skin’s best friend : ). But I hope this product is the one that really helps you out…please be sure to stop back and let us know how it goes!
If you continue to have problems, your best bet is to see a dermatologist (if you haven’t already). He/she is the only one who can recommend and prescribe (if necessary) the best treatment for your skin. Good luck! : )

I love this cleanser! I’m a bit older and zits are not problematic for me. I find it to be mildly exfoliating and non drying. I love the smell as well! Overall, I can see how this mild product would work well for all skin types. Always follow with a good moisturizer!
28 Jazmin // Jan 6, 2009 at 5:50 pm
Julie, that’s a great tip! Thanks for sharing your opinion of this cleanser. I’m glad it’s working so well for you!
