Napoleon Perdis Lip and Cheek Stain Review

PHOTO: Napoleon Perdis on Sephora.com

When Napoleon Perdis says Barely Blushing, they mean barely blushing…but that’s not necessarily a bad thing.

Barely Blushing is a multi-tasking stain that can be used on either your cheeks or your lips.

Slightly tricky application
The surprisingly watery texture of this stain makes it a bit difficult to apply. However, I found that if you only apply small amounts at a time and blend quickly and thoroughly, you’ll be rewarded with an extremely natural and long-lasting flush of color.

Good for fair to dark-medium skin tones
Because this product is so sheer, it should work well on a wide range of skin tones. I tried the stain in “Barely Rouge,” a raspberry shade that at first appeared too sheer for my olive tan skin tone. Once the product dried down, however, it developed into a slightly deeper flush of color that was still subtle enough to look very natural.

As a lipstain, Barely Blushing produced the same pretty flush of color. Since it can feel a bit drying, however, you’ll want to be sure to slick on a lip balm or lipgloss over the stain.

The bottom line…
Though it’s not the most convenient product to use, Barely Blushing delivers on its promise of offering long-lasting, believable color. If you’ve got blending moxie, I recommend this stain. If you’re a beauty beginner, stick with a traditional powder blush or an easier-to-use stick blush.

Napoleon Perdis Barely Blushing is available for $19 from Sephora.

Has anyone else tried Napoleon Perdis Barely Blushing? What did you think of it?

I agree! When I bought this I thought that it would be more of a cream blush, so when I squeezed out the stain, I got it all over my hand!

It’s hard to use and I don’t really like it that much. I think it’s back to Sephora for me!!

Y’all rock! I’m gonna have to come spend some more time here for sure!!!!!

Hi Sasha, sorry to hear that you didn’t have a very good experience with this product! And I did the exact same thing with it when I first tried it, lol!

If you haven’t already, try to keep playing around with it and give it a fair chance before you take it back. You might just end up really liking it : ) Thanks for leaving a comment!

Hey Josi! Thank you! I’d love it if you’d stop by any time! It’s fab to have you here ; )

ah…Perdis is a frightening man [his orange-glo kills me], but damn it, his cosmetics are ace. n0 lie!

sarahPUFFY! lol, I think Napoleon Perdis is cute! And, yes, I’m loving his makeup…I don’t know how I managed to tear myself away from his display at Sephora with only this cheek stain to show for it : )

I’ve been having some pretty grody makeup issues myself. Not only do I get something new every week [I MUST do a review on Revlon's Custom Creations - GREAT STUFF], I’ve been breaking out like crazy from stress and testing it all! Luckily I have new Aquafina products [reviews for that soon, too!] that have helped a LOT. If only I hadn’t slept in full foundation last night…damn me!

Ah, the hazard of being a beauty blogger, lol!

I’m looking forward to your reviews. I’ve heard some good things about the Revlon Custom Creations (that the foundation with the dial, right?)

Oh yes, its bad. During school, SIX pimples popped up on my nose during a two hour time frame! I was floored.

And the reviews are up now! I didn’t go to school yesterday, so I actually found the time!

  • 9 Jazmin // Feb 27, 2008 at 1:25 pm

Oh, you poor thing, that sucks! I hope your skin (and your stress levels : ) are back to normal soon!

I’ll definitely visit your blog and check out your reviews ; )

P.S. — Crazy girl, are you just skipping school so you can blog??

  • 10 sarahPUFFY! // Mar 13, 2008 at 3:00 pm

haha, I promise that I’m not! it just so happens that its easier to blog when my bus driver decides to be evil. n.n

    and man, you’d REALLY kill me for my skin now…it makes me sad. ;-;

  • 11 Jazmin // Mar 13, 2008 at 4:44 pm

Evil bus driver?! What did he/she do?

And what’s wrong with your skin now? It’s because of all that crazy stuff you’re putting on it (and no, I won’t kill you b/c of it : P).

  • 12 sarahPUFFY! // Mar 13, 2008 at 6:06 pm

sometimes she’ll show up either really early [and I'll miss the bus!] or REALLY late [so we'll end up late to school and miss breakfast]. this time she was just super flippin late. so I called mum, went home, and ate a hot pocket. hahahaha.

and as of my skin…well, I wanted to try an oil cleanser sooo bad…so I used baby oil as a substitute!

yeah, bad idea, cos I got a rash all over.
and then I poked on of the many clustered tiny bumps, and they’re all tiny wittle whiteheads! raa! its not as bad as it was, but still enough to make me want to pay Kate Somerville a visit.

I think next time I’ll just bust out the EVOO and the castor oil the way a good girl should. >.>

  • 13 Jazmin // Mar 13, 2008 at 6:23 pm

LOL, I used to always eat Hot Pockets for breakfast!! But then I got kind of burnt out on them (the chicken and broccoli ones, at least ; )

And, Sarah, I totally applaud and appreciate your makeup moxie…you’re utterly fearless when it comes to beauty experiments…but for godsakes, step away from all that crazy stuff and let your skin get back to normal!! (then go back to experimenting, lol).

What do you normally use on your skin (before it went crazy during your sleeping-in-foundation week)?

  • 14 sarahPUFFY! // Mar 13, 2008 at 7:53 pm

Hm, for every day makeup removal, I use Benefit’s “You Clean Up Nice!” face wash and “Gee…That was Quick!” makeup remover.

When I breakout, I’ll use Neutrogena’s Blackhead Eliminating Daily Scrub once a week. Clean and Clear’s Blackhead Scrub works best for my acne, but I haven’t had time to snag it.

I exfoliate 2-3 times a week with Aquafina’s Advanced Hydration Moisture Replenishing and Exfoliating Facial Scrub. My toner and moisturizer are also by Aquafina!

Anddd that’s pretty much it! Its not a bad routine, but ever since the damn baby oil, nothing is working - not even my blemish gel! I’m such a sad panda!

  • 15 Jazmin // Mar 14, 2008 at 5:53 am

awww, “sad panda”! lol, that’s so funny…yet so sad!

Your skin care routine sounds good (assuming your Aquafina scrub is gentle enough to be used that often).

One of the things that I’ve found works best for me if my skin freaks out (because of using some new, weird product) is to just go back to what works for you and keep using it until your skin readjusts and everything is back to normal : )

And drink a ton of water, get enough sleep, and lay off the caffeine! Okay, I’m done with the preaching, lol

  • 16 sarahPUFFY! // Mar 14, 2008 at 9:56 am

    hm, I should lay off the diet coke…we have a love/hate relationship. its bad. ;-;

thankies for the advice! I can’t wait to look semi-normal again. :]

  • 17 Jazmin // Mar 14, 2008 at 12:10 pm

Yup, I probably drink too much diet soda, too. But at least I’ve managed to wean myself off of lattes and all the other liquid crack they serve at Starbucks…and that’s a major victory for me (and my skin)!

And you’re welcome, honey bunny! I’m sure you’ll get your skin back in shape soon enough : )

  • 18 sarahPUFFY! // Mar 14, 2008 at 2:16 pm

    OOH, not me. That Dark Chocolate Peppermint Mocha is boss. I’ve been craving a frapp ALL week. Its killing me. Last night I heated up some decaf, and added a tonne of chocolate ice cream just to cure the craving…it so didn’t work. ;-;

And my skin today looks a little better! I took a break from washing it and wearing makeup, so all I have to do is use my blackhead scrub and I should be a-okay! :)

  • 19 Jazmin // Mar 15, 2008 at 6:30 pm

lol, my Starbucks addiction is a grande non-fat 3-pump White Mocha. Mmmmmm.

    And yay for your skin!!

I’m very tempted to go to Sephora today and poke through the Napoleon P. display : )
