For the last couple weeks, I’ve been rigorously testing Tarte 4 Day Stay Lash Stain.
I wore this mascara while I worked, partied, showered, and pulled near-all-nighters. And, yes, I even committed a major beauty sin (multiple times) and slept in this mascara.
So Does Tarte 4 Day Stay Lash Stain work? Yes, it works brilliantly…but not for four days.
In addition to its ability to add a respectable balance of length and thickness to lashes while tightly holding lash curl, this mascara smudged under only two extreme conditions:
A warning about this mascara: If you’re not experienced with applying and removing waterproof mascara, 4 Day Stay is not for you. If you make a boo-boo and smear this mascara on your eyelids while applying it, it can be very difficult to remove without upsetting your eye makeup.
Similarly, this mascara requires time, patience, and an excellent waterproof makeup remover (I used Lancome Bi-Facil Double Action Eye Makeup Remover) in order to take it off. If you’re not willing to take the time to correctly remove this mascara, you’re not going to be a happy beauty camper.
The Bottom Line on Tarte Four Day Stay Lash Stain: Though 4 Day Stay didn’t actually stay on for four days, the fact of the matter is that it lasts far longer than you would ever need it to. Because of this amazing staying power as well as the mascara’s well-rounded ability to lengthen and thicken lashes while holding curl, Tarte 4 Day Stay Lash Stain is the closest I’ve come to finding my Holy Grail Mascara.
Though not recommended for beauty beginners, I highly recommend 4DS to experienced mascara moxies.

I don’t know, Jaz … I think I have to disagree with you on this one … definitely not one of my faves, althoug I adore Tarte, and certainly not near HG status. Why 4DS over Kiss Me?

I’m not sure if it could trump my full n soft mascara, but hey, I’m ready and willing - especially since I don’t [well, CAN'T] wear mascara on my bottom lashes! woo woo.

I’m on the fence. it goes on nicely, wears brilliantly the first day, but yes, it does smear when you sleep in it, and I didn’t see any remnant of it, other than the smudging, the next day. you know it’s got some staying power when you get an infinitesimal dot on your eyelid and can NOT get it off. *ahem* :)
I’m going to keep trying it though, despite the fact that i think waterproof mascara is bad for the lashes. sigh.

Great review! I just recieved mine and I’m in the process of testing it. I have full long lashes so it was kinda tricky getting it on without smudging but, I did it. I agree, it’s def not for the beginner and highly suggest lancome remover for any mascara (it’s the best). Still not sure it holds up to my HG chanel? hmmm I’ll have to give it a fair chance though. :)

just put it on…
it doesnt so much thicken my lashes which i LOVE. i like the look of long, natural looking lashes which i think ive gotten from 4dw Ive only had it on for about 10 minutes but so far so good

What makes you think its such a “major beauty sin” to sleep in mascara that’s designed to be worn for 4 days straight?

I am really interested but blonde, and I think the rich black would be a little to drastic. wish it came in a dark brown, or something.
