If you’re looking for an excellent facial sunscreen, you should definitely try out Coppertone Faces Oil-Free Sunscreen.
This SPF 30 sunscreen contains Avobenzone and offers broad spectrum UVA/UVB protection in an ultra-light, silky formula that absorbs quickly and doesn’t look the least bit white or chalky.
While there’s lots to love about Coppertone Faces, my favorite thing about this fragrance-free lotion is that it’s not greasy or sticky. Since the lotion offers light hydration, those with very oily skin can skip their regular moisturizer and just slather on this waterproof formula.
If you have normal or dry skin, this sunscreen is still excellent for layering on under your regular moisturizer to ensure that you’re protected from that hot summer sun.
Truly a drugstore superstar, Coppertone Faces is available for about $9 (told you there was a lot to love about it!) from your local drugstore or you can snag it online from Drugstore.com.
Has anyone else tried Coppertone Faces sunscreen? What do you think of it?

I love this sunscreen. You are so right, the lotion is light and did not cause any breakouts during the time I used it. I strayed for a while, but once I am done with what I am using now, I will go back to it. Oh, and I have oily skin, and it’s true all I need is this sunscreen, no need for an additional moisturizer.
Excellent!

Awesome! Thanks so much for sharing your opinion of this sunscreen, T!
I’ve been using this sunscreen for about a week, and no breakouts here, either (let’s hope it stays that way!) ; )

I’ve been using the Cetaphil SPF15 daily moisturizer, but I’d like to move to something with a higher SPF.
I tried this after reading your post (as well as the Eucerin and Neutrogena moisturizers with SPF30, and the Aveeno SPF 30 for face), and they all make my skin flakey! Which is weird, because I have very oily skin!
Any idea why it would do that? Or suggestions for an alternative? Help!

Hi Sara! I’m sorry I somehow missed your comment there!
I’m also sorry to hear that these sunscreens didn’t work out for you. While I can’t offer medical advice, I can try to recommend something that might work better for you.
All the sunscreens you mentioned (including the one by Cetaphil) are “chemical” sunscreens, which absorb UV rays with the help of ingredients like Avobenzone and Octyl Salicylate. Though widely regarded as absolutely safe ingredients, it’s possible that one, or some, of these ingredients might be causing your skin to react.
If this is the case, you could try switching to a physical sunblock, which uses either titanium dioxide or zinc oxide to protect skin from sun damage by reflecting light rather that absorbing it. A good one to try is Clinique City Block SPF 25 ($16.50). You could also try Neutrogena Sensitive Skin Sublock SPF 30.
If you’re still experiencing flakiness after trying these, then there’s another culprit (and you’ll most likely need a dermatologist to help you find it). But I hope this helps and I hope one of these works for you!
