Lancome Oscillation

PHOTO: Lancome

Get ready for the newest little vibrating gizmo that aims to give gals what they really want: longer-, thicker-looking eyelashes (heads out of the gutter, dirty birdies ; )

According to a press release from Lancome, the beauty giant’s new Ôscillation mascara features a brush that provides 7,000 vibrations per minute.

The point of all the lash-shimmying is to aid application and provide 360-degree coverage for your lashes.

Is Oscillation just a gimmicky gadget? Or will it be the next hottest ‘must-have’ mascara?

Guess we’ll just have to wait and see. Lancome Oscillation is slated to launch Fall 2008.

If it wasn’t for the gutter, my mind would be homeless! Just kidding, I’ve always seemed to fall in love with Lancome mascaras. This one will probably have me under captive!

i wonder if the vibration will cause the mascara to sift to the inner part of the brush. I’ll definately have to check it out when it comes out.

btw…did you get my email about the mac promotion?

LOL, Rubii!! You’re hilarious! I wasn’t a big fan of Lancome’s last two mascaras (particularly Virtuose, but High Definicils was ok). But I’m totally looking forward to testing out Oscillation. If anything, the whole vibrating thing should be fun…I know you’re thinking dirty thoughts again. Stop it!

    ; )

Francy, interesting point! That will definitely be something to look for when we try it out. Though just as a guess (and please keep in mind that Physics wasn’t my best subject ; ), I’m thinking that as long as you’re holding the brush against your lashes, the mascara probably won’t be moving down the wand itself.

Plus, wouldn’t it take more of a spinning motion to make the mascara sift towards the inner or outer parts of the brush? Again, I really don’ t know : )

And, yes! Thanks for sending the MAC promo! I was going to send you a link when I put up a post about it, but I’ll copy it here just in case anyone wanders in and wants to know what we’re talking about:

Get a 15% off Family and Friends Discount from MAC June 11-16. The password for instore is neighborhood and the sale online is the 16th only.

Thanks again for sharing it, Francy!

OMG. I HAVE to have this. I am so addicted to mascaras. This sounds better than SpinLash.

LOL, I have to have this too! I can’t wait to see if it actually works ; )

I’ve been anxiously awaiting the new Lancome Oscillation mascara – I had reminders on my iPhone, work phone, computer, and alarm clock. I have to say I am severely disappointed with this product.

As I was the first in line to purchase two (2) tubes of this product at the Yorktown Mall, IL Carson’s store, I ripped it out of the box before I paid for it to try it on. I was extremely excited and loved the application, putting two full coats on. The final results – not happy nor impressed. The separation is better than many mascara’s but nothing extradorinary (something I believed the product claimed to do better); my lashes were actually quite clumped together the longer the mascara dried. To top it off, the product flakes off (it actually started to flake while still in the store – approx 15 mins after application).

The only characteristic which is true to the marketing is the mascara does appear to lenghten your lashes (my lashes are quite naturally long but I do like how they look a tad bit longer).

So my $80 purchase will go in another full bag of cosmetics which will more than likely not be used again until I throw them out.

On no! What a disappointment! But thanks so much for sharing your experience with this mascara : )

You said you loved the application…was that because of the vibrating brush? How did that whole part go?

  • 13 Victoria Sifuentes // Sep 4, 2008 at 12:34 pm

Horrible, Horrible. I ordered the mascara online for the pre-sale and was super excited waiting for it to arrive. Very dissapointing. I figure the vibrating would really make the brush dig in there and get all the little hairs and, well make my lashes look amazing…. I was wrong. My toothbrush vibrates a million times faster. You can really only feel the vibration in the handle, I couldn’t feel it in the actual brush AND you have to hold the little button down. And now to the brush… It looks about a little comb, like the one you seperate your lashes with after you apply reg. mascara. It clumps, it flakes, it’s awful. I returned it and got my money back.

    Hi Victoria,

Sorry to hear that you were disappointed with this mascara. I guess there’s supposed to be a slightly different technique when it comes to applying this mascara (there’s a video for it somewhere that I’ll try to track down).

But I suppose that even the best technique can’t make up for a sub-par formula.

Thanks so much for sharing your opinion of this mascara!

I finally got to try Lancome’s Oscillating Mascara, well it certainly worked better than expected. The vibration takes a little getting used to especially when placing it at the Base of the lashes , the tickle is a bit startling , but once you got used to the sensation , DAMN did my Lashes get thicker, fuller, longer probably because it provided outstanding lift and curl. It was a little too much for Daytime, so I just use it for Nights out, and that was just one application, and I didn’t have to double dip it had more than sufficient product on the brush for both eyes. The wear was outstanding , no flaking or smudging and i tend to have an oily eyelid. I did try to reapply and it, besides it looking like a full set of falsies on (LOL) there was no flaking or clumping. I’ll just stick with my one coat it’s more than enough. Price point is well worth it since I wont be double dipping or pumping air, I am sure the product will at least stay fluid longer.

Love this product! My friend told me about it so we had to go see it. We decided to drop by the Lancome counter today and test it out, and we were all shocked how much longer our lashes looked. I’m not super sold on it because my lashes do not feel any thicker, but definitely would love to have this product. I just sadly can’t afford a 34 dollar mascara addiction!

  • 17 Jazmin // Oct 22, 2008 at 3:25 pm

Hi Carly and Amy, thanks for sharing your experiences with this mascara!

Amy, I’m still yet to try Oscillation, but when I do, I’ll see if I can recommend a less expensive mascara that will still give you the same effect ; )

  • 18 Tara // Oct 25, 2008 at 4:14 am

Couldn’t you just fix a mascara wand to something like a vibrating razor head? Duct tape it? I might try this- there’s no way I’m going to pay 34 dollars for mascara I have to replace every few months.

  • 19 Jazmin // Oct 25, 2008 at 5:39 pm

Interesting! But I’m pretty sure a vibrating razor head vibrates more powerfully than Oscillation. Whatever you do, just be super careful, ok?

I’m very impressed with your “makeup moxie” though ; )

  • 20 Tara // Nov 2, 2008 at 8:32 am

Ok, I went ahead and tried this. I padded a fusion razor with some fabric and taped a mascara wand to the whole thing.

It worked, I think, although it was really awkward to use. Every lash got coated and separated in a way I could never accomplish myself.

I haven’t tried the lancome so I can’t compare it
but I do think it’s the vibration that worked and if you had a lancome wand you could probably
use it with something else after the l. mascara was used up. Wonder how long the batteries last?

(I used full n soft mascara and a lash discovery wand for my little experiment.)

  • 21 Jazmin // Nov 3, 2008 at 3:06 pm

Amazing! I’ll definitely have to try this (with full credit to you, of course ; ).

I don’t know how long Oscillation’s batteries last, but that’s a great idea about reusing the wand for other mascaras.

Thank you so much for the update, Tara! You are, without a doubt, the Makeup Moxie of the Month : )

  • 22 Deanna // Nov 12, 2008 at 10:35 am

I have to say I LOVE THIS MASCARA!!! It is absolutley amazing! It gives my lashes incredible length and fullness. I asked about the battery and it lasts twice as long as the mascara does so you don’t have to worry about the battery running out.

  • 23 Jazmin // Nov 14, 2008 at 10:28 am

Nice! I’m glad you’re loving your Oscillation!

  • 24 meri // Jan 11, 2009 at 6:09 pm

    Fresh idea!
and my husband has already bought it for me:))))
    vibration does its job!!!
    MUST HAVE!

  • 25 phillyjazz // Jan 28, 2009 at 12:44 pm

I tried the oscillating mascara. My lashes are very curly and tight. This mascara separates and makes them look long. I love this product.

  • 26 Jazmin // Jan 29, 2009 at 10:56 am

Phillyjazz, are your lashes naturally curly and tight? You’re lucky!

    Meri, what a sweet hubby! : )

Glad you ladies are loving your Oscillation!

  • 27 Monica // Jan 29, 2009 at 12:37 pm

I’ve tried numerous mascaras in the past years, and this Lancome mascara is the best one yet! At first I was a little skeptical with it because i’ve used Lancome before and didn’t like the Deficils, but the Oscillation takes your eyes to a whole new level! The vibrating brush is amazing because it not only lengthens your eyelashes, but it also volumizes them. You only need like 2-3 coats. It doesn’t clump either! I suggest anyone who wants to have long thick eyelashes to use this product. You won’t be disappointed!
