Cargo Better Than Waterproof Mascara Review
One of the newest products to join the growing class of “tube mascaras,” Cargo Better-Than-Waterproof Mascara forms tiny tubes around lashes to build volume and resist smearing.
As the name suggests, this mascara’s greatest strength is that it is incredibly smudgeproof for a non-waterproof mascara. While it won’t outlast a waterproof heavy-hitter like Tarte 4 Day Stay, Better-Than-Waterproof can go for eight hours without smudging, smearing or flaking.
In addition, this mascara adds good volume and decent length to lashes while doing a fairly good job of holding lash curl.
The main drawback to this mascara? Better-Than-Waterproof has a tendency to clump if you apply too much or you try to layer on additional mascara over a coat that has already dried. On top of that, the mascara dries so quickly that it’s hard to take an eyelash comb to any clumps without risking some tugging at those precious lashes.
Overall, however, this mascara is a very good choice if you’re looking for a smudge-proof volumizing mascara that can be removed with gentle cleanser and warm water. If you find the clumping to be a problem, experiment with applying a lighter coat of the mascara before you send it off to the makeup graveyard.
Cargo Better-Than-Waterproof Mascara is available for $20 from Sephora.

How does this mascara measure up to blinc or lash injection? (I know its different ends of the spectrum) But I’m curious, waterproof is tough on the lashes and I like the non-waterproof options.

Yeah, I used to be a complete devotee of waterproof mascaras…until these non-waterproof formulas started getting so much better.
This mascara is more similar to Lash Injection than blinc since it’s more of a volumizing mascara than a lengthening one. I would say that it offers about the same amount of thickening as Lash Injection and is less likely to flake but more likely to clump.
Compared to blinc, it provides more volume, but less length and is more likely to smudge.
Choosing one’s pretty much going to come down to personal preference : )

I tried this in Sephora, I was lured by the pretty display and I was hunting for a simple no fuss make-up routine for my summer stay in the boonies (isolated northern Canada). I have since been reunited with my beloved iMac and running water that doesn’t smell weird.
Using a tester brush I put it on both eyes (top lashes only) and boy am I glad I didn’t purchase it sight unseen. Within 4 hours it started flaking and by evening about 8 hours later some eye lashes were coated, some weren’t. I wasn’t impressed since I find bits of latex-y mascara in my eye annoying. So I had a different experience.
I used waterproof black mascara from Sephora all summer, though the ultimate indulgence in mascara for me remains Lancome.
