Would you trade one lipbalm for a cure for cancer?

Did you know that your chance of having invasive breast cancer is about 1 in 8? In this year alone, about 182,460 women in the U.S. will find out that they have invasive breast cancer. Out of those women, approximately 40,480 will die from the disease this year.
Makeup Moxies, that’s 182,460 too many women who will be told that they’re diagnosed with the second leading cause of cancer death in women (the first is lung cancer).
While it’s scary and sad to have to face these statistics, the best news is that there’s hope for beating this disease and so much of it comes down to things as simple as educating yourself about breast cancer and supporting the organizations that are working to develop treatments for the disease.
Comment for a cure…
Moxies, please join me and my fellow beauty bloggers to support The Beauty Blog Network’s annual Comments 4 a Cure. For every comment you leave on this blog during the month of October, Makeup Moxie’s Beauty Blog will donate $1 to the American Cancer Society. The donation will be capped at $100.
And before you buy that new lipbalm…
In addition, I’m asking you to make one small sacrifice this month: rather than buying that new lipbalm (or lipgloss, mascara, or whatever) that you probably don’t need, please opt for donating the money to the Beauty Blog Network’s official Comments4aCure widget located on the right.
Thanks so much for your support, moxies! There’s more to come on why the American Cancer Society is near and dear to me as well as lots more information on what you can do to help support a cure for breast cancer. And please don’t forget to leave a comment!

I really, really wish that I had ANY money to donate! One of the organizations within my college is thinking about doing a fundraiser, so I volunteered to bake anything/everything pink! I miss working for Estee Lauder; there were so many opportunities to help while simultaneously working! I was a little bummed, though-I donated about $300 in November, and my check didn’t get cashed until April-it totally overdrew my bank account! Oh well, at least the money got used!

Monica, thanks so much for leaving a comment! And thanks to all the campaigns going on this month…I think we’ll keep getting closer to a cure : )
Laney, what an awesome (and yummy ; ) idea for a fundraiser! And I can’t believe you overdrew your bank account! But it’s amazing that you made that kind of sacrifice. You obviously have a big heart ; )
And please, please don’t worry about not having money to donate! There’s obviously so much you can do to make a real difference this month (like your fundraiser)!

This is great, Jazmin! It’s awesome to see my favorite blog involved in such a worthy cause. My mother-in-law died of breast cancer 10 years ago and my nephew is doing a walk in her honor with the American Cancer Society. We donated money in support of his walk. We’re REALLY proud of him! This guy hates walking (he gets upset if he has to walk too far to his car in a parking lot :), but he’ll be doing a 5k walk for his grandmother.
Thanks again, Jazmin, for doing this! :)

Hi Amanda and Trish! Thanks so much for stopping by and commenting!
Trish, I’m so sorry to hear that your mother-in-law lost her life to this disease. But that’s awesome that your nephew is doing a walk-a-thon…especially since he hates to walk (LOL)!

Ever since I was a little girl, I wanted to do those runs that support breast cancer, and this year, after I saw the 3 Day breast cancer walkers, I felt like signing up! I love it when you help someone!

I’ll be working with my colleges against cancer chapter of the American Cancer Society. There are lots of ways to help. Find your fit. Supporting survivors is very helpful too. If you can give rides, prepare meals, be a listening ear, talk to businesses about donations, or set aside a couple of dollars for the cause, you can help.

Also check out http://www.thebreastcancersite.com. If you go there and click their pink button, sponsors automatically make a donation towards providing free mammograms for poor women. You can click every day!!!
