The Ultimate Holy Grail Mascara

Makeup moxies, as many of you know I’m participating in the Beauty Blog Network’s Comments 4 a Cure to help support Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
For every comment that you leave here on Makeup Moxie’s Beauty Blog during the month of October, I’ll donate a $1 to the American Cancer Society (donation capped at $100). I am so touched and grateful that so many of you have been leaving comments, but I want you to leave more (you can leave as many as you want ; )
So let’s touch on a favorite subject of makeup junkies everywhere: Holy Grail Mascara. One of the most elusive and coveted of all makeup items, the (perhaps) fabled Holy Grail Mascara is defined as the perfect mascara.
Have you found your “Holy Grail” mascara and, if so, what is it? If you haven’t found your Holy Grail Mascara, what is it that you’re still looking for in your quest for the perfect mascara?
Be sure to leave your thoughts in the comments!

And I forgot to mention my own HG mascara! It’s actually not a single mascara — it’s two (Maybelline Lash Discovery and Lash Stylist layered together ala this beauty secret).
As far as individual mascaras go, I’d have to say Tarte 4 Day Stay Lash Stain (though the problem with it is that it’s difficult to remove ; )
So come on, moxies, dish your faves ; )

This isgreat! Thank you for raising money for such an important cause. Waterproof Dior Show is my holy grail of mascaras!!! I have fine lashes and this is one of the only mascaras that can really plump them up!

BTW, love the picture!! Too funny!

sheilaE, thank you for leaving a comment! And sharing your hg mascara. I love Diorshow, too ; )

LOL, thanks Trish! I was cracking up while editing it…can’t you just hear that “heavens parting” type of music when you look at it? : )

I like the picture too lol!!! Loreal Voluminous is my go-to mascara. Even though I’ve tried TONS of other mascaras, I always come back to this one :)

I haven’t found a holy grail yet…. blinc comes really close. Wouldn’t it be great if Blinc came out with a volumizing formula that stays put like the ‘kiss me’ mascara? THAT would be my holy grail!

L’oreal Lash Architect in the black tube… It’s the one I keep on buying after trying other mascaras and not finding anything that will compare.
9 Jazmin // Oct 7, 2008 at 11:56 am
I knew L’Oreal mascaras were going to make it on the list! (and I”m still waiting for those Lancome junkies to leave comments ; )
Amanda, great call on a volumizing version of Kiss Me…that would be awesome!!
Thanks for the comments, ladies!

11 Jazmin // Oct 7, 2008 at 12:30 pm
Ah, there she is! The first Lancome mascara junkie to check in ; )
Thanks for the comment, Randi!

Benefit Bad Gal, though it isn’t perfect.
I need to do some research into other gel mascaras

I still haven’t found the perfect mascara yet, but I have some I like. Right now I’m liking Rimmel’s Eye Magnifier Mascara. I want a mascara that will easily coat all of my lashes, make them longer and fuller, and look a bit thicker towards the outer part of my eyes. I think I will be checking out a Lorac mascara soon, as the Muse recommended it.
14 Jazmin // Oct 7, 2008 at 4:55 pm
Aleksie, Bad Gal and I never got along too well, but I know that some absolutely swear by it!
15 Jazmin // Oct 7, 2008 at 4:57 pm
Diva, I still haven’t tried any Rimmel mascaras! (I know, shame on me!).
Ah, and my friend, the Muse, is certainly a great source. The girl definitely knows her mascaras (and blushes, lipglosses, foundations and everything else!)! : )

Holy Grail of mascaras? My requirements would be a mascara that leaves your lashes feeling soft not stiff, adds beautiful natural-looking length, doesn’t flake or smudge, and doesn’t cause my eyes to itch or tear up.
I’m still searching for my holy grail of mascaras. As for drug store brands, I’d say Maybelline’s Full n Soft Mascara, and for a department store brand mascara, I would go with either Lola’s or Becca’s, but I reserve the right to change my mind!

Tarte Lash Hugger–the best ever. Paraben-free, recycled aluminum packaging…but even better is that is thickens and lengthens, stays slump free, and looks as good at 11pm as it did at 6am when I put it on. It is the best ever!

LOL aww thanks my little moxie! I feel absolutely privileged to be mentioned :-)
Lord knows I have way too many HG mascaras to count eep!
19 Lyssie // Oct 7, 2008 at 8:25 pm
Rimmel Lash Maxxx mascara for me!! Or L’Oreal Double Extend!! I love both!
20 Samantha // Oct 7, 2008 at 10:21 pm
I want to throw in another vote for Maybelline’s Full n Soft Mascara. Its the only one I can use that doesn’t make my eyelashes look like twigs. Though that might be more a reflection on my mascara skills than on the other mascaras.
I would like to find something with a bit more of a dramatic effect for night time wear though.

Heyy ! well I’m unfortunately still in the search for my holy grail mascara, but at the moment i’m using both waterproof versions of Covergirl’s lashblast and Maybelline’s full and soft . they both work pretty well but i’m still looking for a mascara that holds the curl, lengthens and thickens all at the same time ! ohh and i wanted to try the mascara trick but they don’t sell waterproof version of the lash stylist here in Australia :(
22 LisaH // Oct 8, 2008 at 3:42 am
Blinc! It’s been sweat, dust, and even tear tested. The ONLY mascara I’ve tried that lasts all day, and I’ve tried more than my fair share (Dior, Marathon, BadGal, Smashbox, Too-faced. Lorac, L’Oreal…)
23 jennifer // Oct 8, 2008 at 6:15 am
too faced lash injection is my HG for sure
24 Jolene // Oct 8, 2008 at 6:22 am
Fresh’s Supernova mascara is a gem!
25 Jazmin // Oct 8, 2008 at 12:59 pm
Woo-hooo! Thank you so much for sharing your HG mascaras, my darling makeup moxies!
Jen, your hg mascara sounds lovely. And, yes, just for the record, I’d like to reserve the right to change my mind too!
Karley, I’ve been wanting to try Tarte Lash Hugger!
Musey! LOL, you’re very welcome, luvvie! But you mustn’t be a tease! Dish on your HG mascaras…or at least your top three : )
Lyssie: I’m really missing out on this Rimmel thing, aren’t I? : )
Samantha, get one of these Tweezerman lash combs. It’s my top must-have for clump-free lashes! For something a bit more dramatic (and low on clumpage), you might like Maybelline’s Volume Express : )
Katt, sorry to hear that! You can try the trick using Lash Blast instead of Lash Stylist. Though I haven’t tried it, it should give you about the same effect : )
LisaH, you’re such a Blinc devotee! ; )
Jennifer: I looove Lash Injection. Great stuff!
Jolene: Fresh Supernova is another one I’ve been wanting to try!
26 Jen H // Oct 8, 2008 at 1:36 pm
Oh yeah, I’ve heard great things about the Fresh Supernova mascara too. Covet.
27 Marilyn H. // Oct 9, 2008 at 12:30 pm
L’Oreal Telescopic mascara in the gold tube has been my favorite for quite awhile now.
28 Tammy M // Oct 9, 2008 at 12:46 pm
I like Loreal Voluminous waterproof (I only use WP mascara) but my absolute HG is not available in the States: Majorca Majolica Lash Expander from Japan….I have a fellow blogger (Aya!!!) send it to me…I LOVE it!
29 Lisa G. // Oct 9, 2008 at 3:20 pm
I’ve had a few. Right now, I’m in love with Chanel Exceptionnel. With my deep set eyes, something that doesn’t smudge is paramount. The Chanel doesn’t smudge once it dries, although the drying time is longer than other mascaras I’ve tried. On the other hand, two coats of this stuff, and your lashes ROCK!

I’m always on the lookout for something super, but I have to say I really did like my tube of Smashbox Bionic mascara. It coated my lashes but didn’t make them crusty, they still had some flex to them, and I think it looked pretty good length- and volume-wise. It is pricey, so I didn’t get another tube when I finished the first one (which was a gift) because I thought I should look around and see whether I could get the same effect from a drugstore/cheaper brand. But secretly, I still miss my Bionic mascara…. : (
: )
31 Jazmin // Oct 10, 2008 at 2:08 pm
Jen: Even the tube by itself is covetable!
Marilyn: I”ve heard great things about that mascara (was that you who mentioned it before??)
Tammy: Chalk up another one for Loreal Voluminous! I”ve also heard great things about Majorca Majolica!
Lisa G.: Oooh! That’’s sounds fabu! I”ve also been wanting to trying the new Chanel Inimitable ; )
Claire: I”ve had a tube of Smashbox Bionic mascara sitting here, but haven”t tried it yet. I”ll start testing it out and see if I can find a drugstore twin for you ; )

Diorshow Blackout Waterproof. A little pricey but I love this stuff!
33 esperanzalives // Oct 12, 2008 at 4:14 pm
I like Estee Lauder More Than and Projectionist (don’t even try magnascopic- it’s nothing but clumps!), but the most natural-looking mascara I have ever worn is Nicole Miller Volumizing mascara in black/brown. My lashes aren’t sky high or anything crazy like that. I really look like my lashes are visible and curled, but not everyone can tell I’m actually wearing mascara. Natural is my favorite makeup property.
