Did my beauty predictions come true?
Last New Year’s Eve, I made some beauty predictions for 2008. Let’s see how I did, shall we?
1. Prediction: More “green” makeup. Did it come true?
Definitely. Cargo expanded it’s Plantlove collection, Smashbox launched the Green Room Collection, Nvey Eco hit the U.S. and we saw online beauty retailers like Sephora dedicating whole sections of its site to natural and organic products.
2. Prediction: New mineral makeup innovations. Did it come true?
In 2008, we definitely saw a barrage of new liquid foundations that were marketed as mineral makeup. Some of these include Maybelline Mineral Power liquid foundation, Neutrogena liquid mineral makeup and Physician’s Formula’s line of mineral-based tinted moisturizers.
3. Prediction: More multi-tasking self-tanners. Did it come true?
I predicted that we’d see more multi-tasking self-tanners like Fake Bake’s self-tanning body butter and anti-wrinkle facial tanner.
While we didn’t see quite as many as I had anticipated, Clarins did come out with its own self-tanning body cream and Hourglass released Solar Tan, a self-tanning foundation primer.
4. Prediction: Better, more innovative sunscreens. Did it come true?
While they may not be any more effective than a good old-fashioned sunscreen, we did see some interesting innovations in sun protection. A couple of the most interesting were Peter Thomas Roth’s Instant Mineral SPF 30 mineral powder and sunscreen soap.
5. Celebrity Beauty Prediction: Kim Kardashian?
I predicted that 2008 would be the year that Kim Kard makes her big entry into the beauty world and I wasn’t too far off. In July, Kim announced that she would be developing her own perfume.
Beauty Predictions for 2009
I predict that we’re going to see a lot more multi-taskers, which will maybe include more mascaras that double as “lash growth” formulas. I also suspect that we’ll see more HD makeup (maybe even in drugstores!).
Finally, I’m banking on seeing some pretty slick (or at least interestingly gimmicky) new beauty gadgets in the upcoming year. With an economy that’s likely to stay rocky throughout 2009, higher end brands will have to wow consumers with gadgets that are novel enough to made us want to shell out the extra dough (vibrating mascara, anyone?).
As for the big celebrity beauty endorsement of 2009, I have to admit that I’m a little stumped.
What celebrities do you think we’ll see in beauty ads in the upcoming year and what are some of your beauty predictions for 2009? Let’s dishy dish ;)
