Kiehl’s perfume too sexy for New Yorkers?
Did you know that Kiehl’s created its own love potion in the 1920’s? As legend has it, a Russian prince (who was a relative of Kiehls’ founding family), concocted a perfume oil that was so sexy that it was deemed “too sensual” for the times.
Instead of making its way on to the store’s shelves, the perfume was packed up in a vat labeled “Love Potion” and stashed somewhere in the basement of the original Kiehl’s store at 109 Third Ave. in New York City.
Apparently, the public was ready for this mysterious love potion by the 1960’s (ok, no surprise there) and Kiehl’s officially launched its Original Musk Oil in 1963.
So does Kiehl’s secret little love potion work? Who knows? Either way, it would be fun to test out ; )
To celebrate its rich history and give customers a chance to experience the Pharmacy’s old-fashioned love potion, Kiehl’s is re-releasing Original Musk Oil, along with its original Coriander, Vanilla and Grapefruit Essence Oils. The modern twist? The fragrances now come in travel-friendly rollerball perfumes for touch-ups-on-the-go ($25, Kiehls.com).
